The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

After Anning left this world, she had a dream.

When she woke up, most of the dream’s content was forgotten, only some scattered fragments remained, but her heart felt heavy, and she was deeply saddened.

As she opened her eyes, she saw Xiao Yuan.

This time, leaving the small world, she and Xiao Yuan did not separate.

”I had a dream.”

Anning said to Xiao Yuan.

Xiao Yuan held Anning’s hand in the void, ”What a coincidence, I had a dream too.”

As for the content of the dream, neither of them remembered clearly, but they understood that the world in the dream should be their original world. They needed to find a way back, or else both would turn into dust, especially Xiao Yuan, whose physical body was still in the original world. If he couldn’t return, it would be a catastrophe for him.

The two of them spent some time together in the void, using the time to heal their injured Divine Souls.

However, it turned out to be very difficult for them to heal in the void, forcing them to once again consider the small world.

Before heading to the small world, Anning said to Xiao Yuan, ”Hopefully, this time we can find a higher-tier small world, so our Divine Souls can be repaired quickly.”

But, when Anning woke up from the small world, she realized she and Xiao Yuan seemed to have encountered some limitations.

This time, she found herself in a low-tier world again.

A low-tier Plane is called such because the Spiritual Energy is scarce, offering no aid to repair their Divine Souls. Not only that, the technological development here is very backward. For people like Anning and Xiao Yuan, living a lifetime here is nothing but a waste of time.

Previously, Anning and Xiao Yuan could repair in the void, but now it’s very difficult even in the void, so they only hope to reach a High-level Plane, ideally like the Primordial Land when being a fox spirit, which is the perfect place to repair their Divine Souls.

But now, Anning and Xiao Yuan keep arriving at low-tier worlds, showing that they seriously injured the Main God and the mastermind retaliated.

Anning had long realized that the Main God is not the true culprit behind everything, there exists a higher being behind the Main God, and now, that being has started to take action.

However, Anning is not afraid.

As a small soul able to practice through countless lifetimes, hence breaking free from the Main God’s control, she is now stronger. What is there to fear, at worst a death, it is absolutely impossible for anyone to control her and make her comply.

The sound of birds chirping outside the window reached her ears, Anning closed her eyes.

She was immersed in the original body’s thoughts, and after a long while, Anning opened her eyes and smiled, ”Rest assured, I will ensure your grandson lives happily and unrestricted by anyone or anything, allowing him to marry who he loves, leading a life of peace and joy.”

The original soul was indescribably joyful, bowed to Anning, and then truly vanished completely.

Anning closed her eyes again to rest and rejuvenate.

Honestly speaking, the original body is really too weak, no wonder it died at home from sickness, what Anning now needs to do is to first nurse the body back to health before considering other things.

Jinggou Village

A few elderly women were walking together, chatting as they walked, after a while, one of the elderly women said, ”Haven’t seen Sister Tao for several days, wonder what she’s up to, shall we go check on her?”

Thus, these people turned towards a small courtyard at the head of the village.

Anning had just woken up and was about to get up to make some food, when she heard noises from outside the door.

She went to open the door, and as soon as it opened, she saw the elderly women she usually had close relations with standing outside.

”Why have you come?”

Anning smiled and invited them in.

Those women entered and sat down, ”Haven’t seen you for several days, wondering what you’ve been up to, so we came to see if there’s anything we can help with.”

Anning waved her hand, ”What could I be busy with, unlike you, my children and grandchildren aren’t around, a lonely Old Madam, what else is there to be busy with, just had some discomfort a few days ago, so I lay down for a few days and got better.”

The elderly women were particularly concerned for Anning, ”You were ill? Why didn’t you call your Zhenhua then, even if you don’t get along with your former daughter-in-law, your son and grandson are yours, right? You raised your son and even helped raise the grandson, why not stay in the city and let them take care of you, and now here you are, alone in the village, if you die of illness, no one would know.”

Anning smiled as she poured tea for them, ”Well, I can’t help it, Zhenhua doesn’t say it, but he resents me, if not for him, would I have borne this reputation for so many years, being called a wicked mother-in-law all the time, what did I do wrong. Since Wanping married into our family, I treated her like my own daughter, never spoke a harsh word to her, let me not jest, when she was pregnant, I washed her undergarments, tell me, what else should I have done, I’m utterly baffled, why those city folks curse me, calling me a wicked mother-in-law, saying I drove my daughter-in-law away, forcing my son into loneliness all these years.”

The elderly women were stunned.

”Why haven’t we heard you say this before?”

Anning slowly sat down, ”Back then, I couldn’t figure it out, didn’t want to mention it, fearing it would make Zhenhua feel worse, but this time I almost died of illness, I thought, if I died, would I still bear the name of a wicked mother-in-law, I... sigh, having narrowly escaped death already, there’s nothing left I can’t figure out.”

For the first time, the elderly women heard Anning speak of these matters, inevitably prompting them to ask her.

Anning told them everything she could, ”Earlier, I really didn’t understand, I didn’t know why Wanping divorced Zhenhua, now I know what’s going on, a few days ago I called our Xiao Chen, and heard from Xiao Chen that after Wanping divorced our Zhenhua, she remarried, now she treats that man’s son like her own, looking after that man’s son more than our Xiao Chen, and it reminded me of things from many years ago.”

Anning intended to use this opportunity to clear the original body’s reputation, so she recounted many incidents.

The original body at this time actually didn’t know these things, and didn’t want to bring up those matters, but Anning knew, she was well aware of them, she also looked down upon the original body’s son’s character, so she wasn’t afraid of affecting the original body’s son’s reputation, hence she acted somewhat recklessly.

”What matters?”

The elderly women, provoked by Anning, became curious.

Anning sighed, ”You all don’t know, back when Wanping married Zhenhua, she was involved with someone else and was even pregnant, the past few days I’ve been pondering over these things, I’ve come to understand who Li Wanping really is, hmph, back then she heard her old lover’s wife died, so she wanted to marry her old lover but couldn’t let people call her a Water Yang Hua, isn’t that why she threw dirt onto my name, she’s shrewd, while I’m an honest person, couldn’t compete with her, let her pile the blame on me with all sorts of insults, letting neighbors all around call me a wicked mother-in-law, while she’s supposedly the one aggrieved, and so, she couldn’t bear the grievance, divorced our Zhenhua, and thus achieved her wishes without rebuke. All the rebuke landed on me.”

As Anning spoke, she grew increasingly indignant, ”All these years I’ve been confused, finally understand now, how could I be so unlucky, marrying a daughter-in-law with such vicious thoughts for my son, leading our family to crumble over the years, hasn’t our Jingchen suffered many grievances too.”
