The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

Chapter 489: Chapter 480: Slapping the Golden Finger Reborn Girl 8

Mr. Bai hung up the phone still looking infuriated.

He sat on the sofa, without any intention to cook, growing increasingly angry as he thought about Anning’s situation.

What kind of parents are these? They’re so irresponsible, nearly pushing a good child to the brink.

Mr. Bai felt both furious and heartbroken for Anning.

After some thought, still feeling uneasy, he changed his clothes, grabbed his bag, and left the house.

He had previously asked Anning where she was staying, and he went directly to that hotel on an electric scooter.

When Mr. Bai found Anning, she had just taken a shower and was sitting quietly in the hotel room working on her homework.

Mr. Bai felt somewhat reassured seeing Anning still focusing on her studies even at such a time.

Yet, thinking again about how such a good girl was being treated that way, he felt very sorry for Anning.

”Come, go back with the teacher, and stay with me for tonight.”

Mr. Bai was very decisive and started helping Anning pack her things straight away.

Anning smiled: ”No need, I’ve paid already, it would be a pity not to stay.”

Mr. Bai frowned: ”How can you, a young girl, stay in a hotel alone? What if you meet some bad people? It’s very unsafe.”

Anning spoke softly: ”I’ll be fine if I don’t go out. Don’t worry, teacher, I’ve learned self-defense, nothing will happen.”

But Mr. Bai didn’t believe it.

However, he couldn’t convince Anning, and having no other choice, he called home to discuss Anning’s situation with his husband, and told him that he would be staying at the hotel with Anning for the night.

Anning felt quite helpless upon hearing this: ”If I had known this would happen, I wouldn’t have called you until tomorrow.”

”You...”

Mr. Bai patted Anning’s head: ”You should have called your teacher earlier, I would have found you a safer place, but it’s not too late now. I’ll stay with you tonight, and tomorrow we’ll go look for an apartment together.”

After saying this, Mr. Bai tentatively asked Anning: ”Did your parents call? Didn’t they ask when you left?”

Anning shook her head and smiled bitterly: ”No, they probably don’t want me anymore.”

Anning wiped her eyes: ”Teacher, is there something I’m not doing well enough? Why don’t they like me?”

Seeing Anning so sad, Mr. Bai also felt a wave of sorrow.

He extended his arms to hug Anning: ”You are very good, really good, the teacher likes you very much, be good, don’t think too much, let’s finish the homework and go to sleep early.”

Anning nodded, just about to work on the homework, when her stomach started growling.

Mr. Bai knew that Anning probably hadn’t eaten, and he hadn’t eaten before he came either, so now he was hungry as well.

He took out his phone and ordered takeout, then worked on homework with Anning.

The next morning, Anning and Mr. Bai went to the school together. After finishing the morning lessons, Mr. Bai took Anning to see a real estate agent, and they also met a landlord.

It so happened that the landlord was an acquaintance of Mr. Bai; he chatted with them for a long while, finding out that the neighborhood had good security, and most residents were friendly. Especially the landlord’s neighbors across the hall, a retired elderly couple, were particularly kind and enjoyed helping others.

Once he had a clear understanding of the situation, Mr. Bai felt at ease and helped Anning sign the apartment rental contract, and even helped her tidy up the place before returning to the school.

Anning took the afternoon off, went to the supermarket to buy some groceries, and cleaned up the apartment thoroughly.

Once she had cleaned the apartment and arranged all the amenities, Anning took out meat and vegetables from the fridge to make dumpling fillings.

Anning worked very quickly, and with her grandmaster-level cooking skills, it didn’t take long for her to make several kinds of dumpling fillings.

She put each batch of dumplings into specially purchased dumpling boxes and froze them in the refrigerator.

By the evening, when all the neighbors had returned home, Anning took the dumpling boxes to visit several neighbors whom she had heard were of good character.

The first house she visited was the old couple living across the hall.

Anning knocked on the door, which was promptly opened by an old lady with graying hair standing at the doorstep.

”Hello, Grandma, I am the new neighbor who just moved in across the hall. I had some free time this afternoon and made some dumplings.”

Anning handed over the box of dumplings: ”I made them myself, not sure if they’ll taste good.”

The old lady smiled and took the dumplings, then said to Anning, ”Wait a moment, will you?”

Anning waited at the door. When the old lady returned, she was carrying a bag of fruit. Anning could tell that these fruits were especially fresh and were also the more expensive kind.

The old lady handed the fruits to Anning: ”You see, students I taught in the past often bring fruits over, and your Grandpa Lu and I can’t finish them all. Now that you’ve come, it’s just like you’re helping us out a little.”

Anning smiled and accepted it: ”Thank you, Granny Lu. My name is Yu Anning, and I might be living here for a while. If there’s anything I do wrong, please do point it out to me.”

”Sure, if there’s anything you need, don’t forget to come to us. As a young girl living on your own, don’t let yourself be wronged.”

Granny Lu gave Anning a few words of caring advice.

Anning smiled and thanked her, and only after Granny Lu went back inside and closed the door did Anning return to put away the fruits. She then took a few more boxes of dumplings to visit another family on the same floor.

She also visited a few families living upstairs and downstairs.

Of course, when Anning gave out dumplings, the neighbors didn’t just take without giving something in return. Each family reciprocated with gifts; some gave homemade snacks, some gave fruits, and one family that was baking flatbread gave Anning a few pieces.

Anning returned home, sorted the fruit and some vegetables, and put them in the refrigerator. The baked flatbreads were cut into pieces to cool down, ready to be refrigerated for heating and eating the next morning.

After organizing everything, Anning cooked a dozen or so dumplings to eat.

While Anning was settling in, at the Yu Family’s dinner, there were only three people, and it was only then that Yu Anjing remembered Anning.

”Father, where’s my sister? Is she really not coming back?”

As Yu Anjing asked, she mockingly thought to herself that Anning was such a fool to leave a good life at home and choose to go out and suffer.

What good could come to a girl in her sophomore year of high school out there by herself?

Yu Anjing knew that Anning had no money on her and even less ability to make a living. Moreover, she still had to go to school; probably after moving out on a whim, she had nowhere to stay by now and was starving somewhere.

”She insisted on leaving; no one could stop her.”

Father Yu snorted coldly: ”Just eat your dinner.”

Yu Anjing bowed her head and ate, while Mother Yu felt a little distressed thinking about Anning.

After dinner, Mother Yu said to Father Yu, ”Old Yu, we should still look for the child. She’s still young, and if we teach her well and keep her in check, for sure she won’t end up like in that dream.”

Father Yu pondered for a moment: ”Let’s wait and see.”

He said with a cold expression, ”Who knows if we can ever change her, even with all our teaching. In the dream, she brought disaster upon the whole family. Now, when I think about it, it still...”

”That dream...” When Mother Yu thought about that dream, she also felt particularly uncomfortable.

Initially, they both did not really believe in the dream, but it was too detailed, as if... as if they were both reborn. They remembered many details of the dream clearly.

After exchanging opinions, they decided not to believe in the dream at first and to observe for a while.

But many things in the dream came true, like a plane crash, a production crew suffering massive losses and interrupting filming because the lead actor committed a crime, and more...

In any case, with one thing after another happening just like in the dream, they couldn’t help but believe it.
