The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

Chapter 465: Chapter 456: I Am the Vicious Eldest Aunt

Lan was taken back by the eldest woman of her family, Old Madam thanked the others, then brought Lan into the room.

Lan looked up at Old Madam: ”Grandma, how is my mother doing?”

Old Madam, looking tired, said, ”Your mother is much better now; your eldest sister and Yu’er are with her.”

”I want to see my mother too.”

Lan turned and ran towards the eastern room.

As she pushed the door and entered, she shivered.

It wasn’t that the room was cold, but that it was too warm inside and too cold outside. In such a shift from cold to warm, she felt a bit uncomfortable.

”Mother, mother, how are you?”

Lan called out softly twice.

”The aunt by marriage is fine now.”

Xu Minruo replied and came out to bring Lan into the inner room.

Anning was reclining on a bolster, lying in bed. She was under the quilt; her already small face looked even smaller, and in the light of the candle, her face was especially pale, not a hint of color in it.

Lan just glanced at her and felt an unbearable heartache.

She walked over slowly, careful to hold Anning’s hand: ”Mother, don’t leave me, I am scared.”

Anning smiled, but it seemed to hurt her throat, and her hand trembled slightly.

Lan looked at that hand, pale to the point where the veins underneath could be seen, exceptionally beautiful with thin, long fingers, and nails that were pinkish. However, her skin was too pale, and this hand seemed too fragile.

Holding this cold hand, Lan still felt a bit scared: ”Mother, Uncle Two and Uncle Three have already taken Auntie Two back to the Feng home; she won’t curse you anymore.”

Xu Minruo sat on the side, her expression also looking poor.

She felt very guilty and somewhat unsure how to face Anning.

Mrs. Feng was Xu Minruo’s own mother. When Mrs. Feng committed a wrong, Xu Minruo was particularly upset, always feeling she owed everyone.

”I’m alright, don’t be afraid.”

Anning patted Lan’s head; when she talked, her voice was particularly hoarse, evidently due to a throat injury that hadn’t yet recovered.

After sitting for a while, Anning sent Xu Minruo and Zhou Yu’er with Lan to sleep.

The two Misses took Lan to their room to play, and before Anning could enjoy some quiet, Brother Ying walked in.

He also considerately closed the door behind him.

Step by step, he walked to Anning’s bedside, asking in a low voice, ”Mother, does your throat still hurt?”

Anning shook her head.

Brother Ying clenched his fists: ”Mother, why did you try to take your own life? You’re not someone who can’t bear it.”

Anning blinked at Brother Ying: ”What do you think?”

A sharp look flashed through Brother Ying’s eyes: ”It’s all Mrs. Feng’s fault.”

Brother Ying knew what kind of character the Xu family had.

Speaking of which, apart from Xu Zhiwen, who had passed away, and Anning, everyone in this family had a soft heart.

Even Old Madam.

Old Madam was the typical case of a harsh tongue but a soft heart; always appearing to reprimand and punish, but genuinely when someone is in trouble, she would extend her hand to help.

Xu Zhiyong was even more hopelessly soft-hearted.

Otherwise, the Xu family wouldn’t have tolerated Mrs. Feng for those many years.

Now they all talk about divorcing Mrs. Feng, but what if Mrs. Feng genuinely repented?

If Mrs. Feng made a scene, weeping and begging, or threatened death to pressure Xu Zhiyong not to divorce her?

Perhaps at that time, Xu Zhiyong would truly be unable to let go.

After all, he and Mrs. Feng have been a couple for many years, and they have had three children together; in fact, they are already one flesh and blood. To divorce Mrs. Feng is truly like cutting his own flesh.

Yet, Mrs. Feng and the Feng Family can no longer be tolerated.

In the future, the Xu Family will continue to prosper, but with the likes of the Feng Family dragging behind, who knows what trouble they might stir up and implicate the entire clan.

Moreover, Mrs. Feng just doesn’t seem to understand, having such a mother is not good for either Xu Minruo or Xu Minchang.

For the development of the entire clan, Mrs. Feng must be discarded.

In order to make the family resolve this and for Xu Zhiyong to strike while the iron is hot and send Mrs. Feng back to the Feng Family, Anning staged this scene.

With the crime of driving the eldest sister-in-law to death, no matter who pleads, the Xu family can no longer accommodate her.

And even if word of this gets out, no one would criticize the Xu Family.

People will not say the Xu Family is cold-hearted, but rather that Mrs. Feng went too far, and the Xu Family has been generous to endure her until now.

Only Ying Ge’er saw through Anning’s act; surprisingly, no one else understood.

Anning touched Ying Ge’er’s head with a smile: ”You’re like your father.”

Indeed, Xu Zhiwen is such a shrewd man, and Ying Ge’er is truly his son.

Anning feels Ying Ge’er has the makings of a good official.

Xu Zhiyong and Xu Zhiqin tied up Mrs. Feng, then called some clansmen to go to the Feng Family.

At this moment, Mrs. Feng’s mother was angry.

Mrs. Feng came back to her parents’ house today without bringing anything; she came empty-handed.

This made Mrs. Feng’s parents feel rather affronted.

Which family’s daughter returns to her parents’ home empty-handed during the New Year?

The Xu Family really looks down on people.

Mrs. Feng’s mother was so angry she almost beat Mrs. Feng. Although she didn’t hit her, she cursed her thoroughly.

She called her all sorts of names like ’worthless’ and ’shameless.’

Afterward, they didn’t even let Mrs. Feng eat, and as soon as she finished cooking, they drove her away.

After Mrs. Feng left, Mrs. Feng’s mother was still furious.

Mr. Feng also saw it clearly; in his view, the Xu Family became prosperous and now wants nothing to do with their poor relatives.

Otherwise, every year Mrs. Feng would bring something back to her parents’ house, so why were they not letting her bring anything this year?

Mr. Feng even discussed with Mrs. Feng about going to the Xu Family after the Lantern Festival to have a good talk with them.

Mrs. Feng’s brother, Feng Bao, was also fanning the flames.

”My sister is really in the wrong, which daughter doesn’t bring back some fat chickens or ducks when returning to her parent’s home? Yet she had to come back empty-handed. She probably encountered quite a few villagers along the way. Isn’t this just asking for others to laugh at our household? My sister married into the Xu Family and has even learned to be as stingy and petty as them.”

With these words, Mr. Feng became even more incensed.

He didn’t even eat dinner and instantly declared that he was going to the Xu Family to demand an explanation.

Mrs. Feng, with her legs crossed, said: ”Go, and ask the Xu Family patriarch, how easy is it for our daughter to bear and raise children for their family, and to treat us like this? If they want to keep this daughter-in-law, they should quickly make amends with the proper reparations; if they don’t want her, then proceed with the divorce.”

Burning with fury, Mr. Feng stormed out of the house.

He hadn’t walked far when he heard a cacophony.

From a distance, he saw a group of people with torches coming his way.

As they got closer, he was shocked to see that his son-in-law was bringing his daughter, all bound up.

Mr. Feng dared not speak of going to the Xu Family to demand an explanation anymore.

He immediately ran back to the courtyard and with a bang, he locked the front gate tightly.

It wasn’t long before he heard knocking on the door: ”Open up, open the door quickly.”

Then he heard Xu Zhiqin’s voice: ”Uncle Feng, we’ve brought your disgraceful daughter back home, hurry up and open the door to take her back.”
