The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

Chapter 470: Chapter 461: I Am the Vicious Eldest Aunt 48 (Monthly Ticket 150 Bonus Chapter)

Anning returned home, and Xu Minruo came to greet her.

She stared at Anning with eager eyes, yet dared not ask.

Still, the Old Madam couldn’t bear to watch: ”Your mother is ill, but your elder sister-in-law has already found a doctor to see her. Your uncle said, she got cold sleeping in the woodshed last night, so don’t worry. Your elder sister-in-law has asked Doctor Gu to prescribe medicine for her, and once she takes it, she will likely get better.”

Upon hearing this, Xu Minruo felt even more grateful towards Anning: ”Thank you, elder sister-in-law.”

Anning touched Xu Minruo’s head: ”Why thank me? I do these things for you all, it’s just that... The Fengs are too much, don’t associate with them anymore to avoid being sold by them.”

”Mm, I know.”

Xu Minruo wasn’t unaware of what’s good for her.

She nodded vigorously in agreement, and at the same time, she made up her mind to keep a close eye on Min Chang and absolutely prevent him from contacting the Feng family.

Mrs. Feng was hastily carried back by the Fengs.

Now, she was dazed, feeling alternately cold and hot, and her headache was unbearable.

Mrs. Feng felt that she was about to die.

Thinking of how her parents and siblings left her in the woodshed with only a thin blanket, her heart felt colder than the weather outside.

When she was outside the Xu family’s home, she regained consciousness for a while.

She heard the quarrel between the Fengs and the Xu family, and knew that Xu Zhiyong almost beat up her brother.

At this moment, Mrs. Feng couldn’t care less about Feng Bao.

All she knew was that if she died, there would be nothing left.

Mrs. Feng wanted to live; she wanted to speak, to beg Xu Zhiyong to find a doctor for her, to get her some medicine.

Why didn’t she think to ask Feng Bao?

Because she knew it was useless to ask him.

If Feng Bao truly cared about her, he wouldn’t have let her sleep in the woodshed, let alone carry her to the Xu family’s doorstep when he knew she was gravely ill.

Mrs. Feng was desperate, wanted to speak, but had no strength.

Until Anning appeared, and pointed out that the blanket covering her was too thin, did she finally start to regain some energy.

At that moment, Mrs. Feng felt utterly cold, as if the wind was blowing right through her bones.

A thick cotton blanket was laid over her, and Mrs. Feng finally felt a long-lost warmth.

Moreover, the blanket carried a familiar scent, almost making her cry.

Later, Anning called a doctor to see her and even got her several large packages of medicine.

Tears fell from Mrs. Feng’s eyes.

At that moment, her emotions were extremely complex.

She didn’t know whether to resent Anning or be grateful to her.

She resented Anning because she had Xu Zhiyong divorce her, but was grateful because Anning had someone save her, giving her a chance to live.

On the way back, Mrs. Feng thought carefully about many past events.

She remembered when she first married into the Xu family, she had actually had a few good days.

Back then, the Old Madam treated her very kindly, the elder sister-in-law was cordial, and she and Xu Zhiyong were loving spouses.

Until when did it change?

Right, it changed after she took money back to her parents and the Old Madam found out.

The Old Madam beat and scolded her several times, the elder sister-in-law no longer spoke kindly to her, and influenced by the Old Madam, Xu Zhiyong also started treating her badly.

Afterwards, she stubbornly continued to take things to her parental home. The more she did so, the worse the Old Madam treated her, yet her mother treated her particularly well after she returned to her parental home.

Mrs. Feng thought the more clearly the more she thought about it.

She finally understood why she ended up like this.

It was all because she couldn’t see things clearly.

Among the three daughters-in-law of the Xu Family, she was the one who always took things and money from her parents’ home, almost moving everything to the Feng Family.

Yet, Anning never did such a thing, as her family was wealthy and didn’t need her to move anything from her parents’ home.

Mrs. Li’s family also didn’t have much money, but Mrs. Li always had proper measure. She would take some gifts to her parents’ home during festivals, but normally she did not visit often.

Mrs. Feng thought of something Mrs. Li once said.

She said that while her parents were alive, she visited to honor them, but if one day they were gone, she feared she would hardly be able to visit.

Thinking about it now, it really was the case.

Without her parents, with Feng Bao and his wife being that way, she wouldn’t even be able to visit.

Mrs. Feng wanted to laugh, so what if her parents were still here now? This home was still run by Feng Bao, and she was still driven to the firewood room.

She used to be blind, not knowing on what to rely and not understanding that by constantly taking money from her parents’ home, she not only harmed herself but also her parents and siblings.

Feng Bao even thought about leaving Mrs. Feng in the firewood room.

But Mrs. Feng pleaded with him, ”Bao, let your sister warm up in the house for a bit. She’s divorced, but there are many in the village who can’t find wives. When she gets better, we’ll find her another family.”

Feng Bao thought about it and indeed it was the case.

Mrs. Feng was not bad-looking, she used to dress well and was well-fed in the Xu Family, she stood out among the village women with sallow and lean faces. Even being divorced, Mrs. Feng would not worry about finding a family to marry into.

Then, he could ask for another dowry when Mrs. Feng gets married, and later, he could also have Mrs. Feng take things from her in-laws back home.

Calculating like this, Feng Bao nodded: ”Okay, let her in, Mom. Brew some medicine for her to drink, and try to get her well quickly, I am still waiting to ask for another dowry.”

Mrs. Feng heard all these words clearly.

Tears flowed uncontrollably down her cheeks as she was carried into the house.

This year, the Xu family had indeed had a splendid time.

Thankfully, it quieted down after the third day of the lunar year.

Anning could then quietly teach a few children.

After the fifteenth day, Anning and the Old Mr. discussed sending a few boys to the academy to study.

The Old Mr. called Xu Zhiyong and Xu Zhiqin to discuss it together.

Now that both the second and third branch had money, they naturally wanted to educate their children.

Even if they didn’t take the imperial examinations, just being literate was a good thing.

Xu Zhiqin was the first to express, ”Father is right, sending the children to the academy is proper, let’s send them now.”

Xu Zhiyong also smiled and said, ”Min Chang told me several times that he wants to study in the academy.”

Speaking of this, Xu Zhiyong was especially grateful to Anning: ”This is all thanks to my elder sister-in-law. Previously, Min Chang played foolishly, but he has been taught well by sister-in-law recently. He has become much more sensible, speaking to me decorously, I can hardly believe that’s my son.”

Xu Zhiqin quickly added, ”True, my family’s Minfang and Minwu have also changed for the better after playing here for a few days.”

Old Mr. smiled, ”Your elder sister-in-law said the academy in the county is very good, there are several scholars there too. Thinking about it, even if it costs us more, we should send our children there.”

Xu Zhiqin was willing, but he still had some worries, ”It’s good, but I don’t know if they will accept our children.”

The Old Mr. was not worried about this at all.

”Your elder sister-in-law has thought of this long ago, she had Yu’er send a letter to her brother earlier. Now, Zhou Xun has specifically written to the Mountain Master of the academy, they will accept us due to Zhou Xun’s influence.”

At this moment, Xu Zhiyong clearly felt how it was like to have a reliable support in the family.

Without Zhou Xun, the scholar, even if the children wanted to progress, there would be no way to do so.
