Journey to Planar World

”Oi, oi, oi... Seriously? Hey, Amane. Slap me, make sure I’m not dreaming.”

With a deathly pale face while staring out the window, Itsuki could seemingly not believe the horror that had just occurred in the school yard.

*SLAP!*

”Ouch! You actually did it?!”

Itsuki cried out in annoyance while rubbing his cheek, which had suddenly turned burning red from the impact of a fairly powerful palm.

”You asked for it yourself...”

Amane felt it was unfair when his best friend cast an irritated look at him instead.

The guy himself had begged with a panicked face to be slapped just to make sure that this all was not a dream, so why did he have to feel annoyed now?

Amane did not have the luxury of time to deal with Itsuki’s silliness any further. He immediately shifted his gaze, looking around the classroom which had now completely turned into a panic.

The atmosphere was totally chaotic: desks and chairs scraped harshly, hysterical screams filled the air, and students began running out the sliding door without caring about the teacher’s instructions anymore.

”Itsuki. This is no time to joke.” Amane put on a serious expression. ”We have to evacuate to a safe place—”

Not waiting for his best friend to finish his sentence, Itsuki directly cut in with a facial expression that turned panicked because he was worrying about something else.

”Oh no! Sorry, Amane! I have to go to Chitose’s side! She must be absolutely terrified!”

Without waiting for a response, he directly turned around and dashed out of the classroom with hurried footsteps.

Between a best friend and a girlfriend, which one would Itsuki choose in a life-and-death situation like this?

The latter, of course!

Unfortunately, the path to Chitose’s classroom did not go smoothly for Itsuki.

As soon as his feet stepped onto the outer corridor area, he immediately came face-to-face with a wave of mass panic.

Other students already packed the corridor, jostling, pushing one another, and running in all directions without any clear destination.

The crowded and chaotic atmosphere of the corridor forced Itsuki to fight hard against the current of panicked humans just to step forward.

Meanwhile, back inside the classroom, Amane returned to his senses. He cast his gaze around the classroom, which was slowly beginning to empty out.

As it turned out, besides himself, there were several students who did not leave and chose to remain inside the class.

Some of them were students who could still think clearly and realized there was no escape route, because the Seijo High School complex was surrounded by an extremely high concrete wall and the main gate was the only way to enter and leave—which at this moment was already under the full control of the terrorists.

Meanwhile, the other students who stayed in the class were those who were already too terrified, making them unable to move their bodies at all, only able to freeze in place with heavily shivering bodies awaiting what would happen next.

”Oh, right. I have to call the police.”

Almost forgetting the most basic thing to do in an emergency situation like this, Amane hurriedly reached into the inside of his school bag and took out his cell phone.

”Huh? How strange... Why won’t my body stop shaking?”

He stared at his own palm with a look of disbelief.

His hand holding the cell phone kept shaking violently without being able to be controlled, making it very difficult for him just to press the number digit buttons on the mobile phone screen.

The lazy, flat, and indifferent expression toward the world that he usually always showed on ordinary days now instantly collapsed completely in front of the cruel reality.

When truly confronted with an extraordinary, life-threatening situation like this, he realized that he was not different at all from any other ordinary person.

Weak, fragile, and helpless.

Yet, deep down in his innermost heart all this time, Amane had always considered himself a little different and more special than the other people around him.

As a small example, he always thought that if he were willing to change his messy bangs hairstyle, he was actually a handsome young man, the type of guy who could easily attract the attention of young girls to go out on a date with him.

However, all this time he deliberately chose to keep a low profile and act as if he were an observer watching the drama of other people’s lives with an indifferent gaze from the corner of the room.

Now, in front of the muzzles of the terrorists’ weapons, that facade and cool-acting thought crumbled, proving that all of it was nothing more than a shameful teenage adolescent chuunibyou delusion.

Elsewhere, the teachers’ staff office.

The condition of that room at this time was already completely empty.

The other teachers, despite being enveloped by an extreme amount of fear, still tried to carry out their professional duties to go out and evacuate the students to places deemed safer.

The only person still remaining and holding out inside the staff office was Charlie.

Standing calmly at the edge of a large window that looked directly outward, his eyes stared straight at the dozens of innocent corpses lying stiffly outside the school gate.

The expression on his face did not show fear at all, but rather pity.

”Why?”

Silence.

There was no one in that room to answer his question.

”Why do people always love to come gathering in crowds just to watch?” Charlie let out a short breath, shaking his head. ”This is truly exactly the same as in my past life in Indonesia. When there is a traffic accident on the highway, instead of moving away, people deliberately stop by, crowd around, and watch it.”

”What exactly is so interesting about watching misfortune befall other people?”

Through the Senrigan, he monitored in real-time and in detail all the movements currently happening throughout Seijo High School.

Under his watch, he could see Elena, who had apparently already moved quickly.

The woman used a distraction magic to lower her presence aura to an extreme degree, making herself as if she were an invisible Kato Megumi figure to her surroundings, and Elena’s position was now right by Amane’s side to stand by.

Charlie also saw the movement of the cartel terrorists who were now starting to step into the corridor of the ground floor teaching building.

And lastly... The figure of Mahiru who at this moment was jogging, heading directly toward the teachers’ office where he was located.

”The Abyssal Devourer truly pulled off a big action this time.”

”It deliberately hired a drug cartel to do all the dirty work, while its own main host body is hiding god knows where.”

Using the Senrigan capability to catch a glimpse of the past flashbacks of the terrorist group in the yard, Charlie quickly gathered various bits of their background information.

”Now, then... how should I handle this big crisis?” Charlie tapped his fingers on the window frame, thinking hard. ”The scale of their attack’s escalation is already too large and conspicuous. It feels impossible for me to resolve this chaos secretly without drawing public attention...”
