Journey to Planar World

”The nature of this Parasite-Type Abyssal Devourer isn’t as simple as you might imagine, Charlie.” Elena continued, her voice sounding grave. ”True, their maximum limit for possessing and taking over a body completely is restricted to only five people.”

”However, they possess a far more troublesome power: the ability to influence the subconscious will of others without that person ever realizing they have changed.”

Elena paused for a moment, searching for the right analogy.

”To make it easier for you to understand, use Uchiha Shisui’s Kotoamatsukami as a reference. The difference is, this monster doesn’t need eye contact or direct touch; just passing someone on the street is enough for them to fall under its manipulation of will.”

”This is exactly what makes it so difficult for us to determine who the five primary host identities being fully controlled actually are.”

She sipped her juice before adding, ”Of course, the control over these ’fleeting’ people isn’t as strong as the total takeover of a primary host. The core program planted in the target’s subconscious is designed to hurt The Chosen One until they give up on life and choose to die.”

”In Shiina Mahiru’s case, those two BBC men you finished off yesterday were driven by the most primitive method; the goal was to make Mahiru feel filthy after being defiled so she would ultimately choose suicide.”

Speaking at such length in a single breath made Elena look somewhat weary. She took a deep breath, causing her curvaceous chest to sway behind the thin wrap of her towel.

However, Charlie didn’t pay the slightest bit of attention to the fan service presented before him. His mind was focused entirely on the complexity of this Quest.

After a few moments, he broke the silence with a heavy voice.

”How much time did you and Frank need back then before you finally managed to kill the Parasite-Type Abyssal Devourer?”

Elena gave a bitter smile, her eyes dimming as she recalled those difficult times. ”The time we spent finishing that Quest... was about three years.”

”There was no other choice, Charlie. This type of enemy is extremely cunning and good at hiding. It’s almost impossible to find them quickly because we will never know whose body that Abyssal Devourer is borrowing among the countless humans in this city.”

”I see.” Charlie exhaled. ”To be honest, I’d much rather face an enemy that attacks head-on than one that keeps hiding in the shadows like this.”

Elena nodded in agreement. ”I concur. My concern is that we might be stuck here for several years just to protect the protagonist and heroine from this invisible threat. This is the type of Quest that will take a very long time.”

For Charlie, this wasn’t the first time he had faced a long-term mission.

In the Planar World of Kaguya-sama previously, he had also spent years exterminating the monsters responsible for an apocalypse that nearly wiped out human civilization.

He had already mentally prepared himself to work overtime for an indefinite period.

Such was the fate of a white-collar worker (Savior).

”So, what about the division of labor?” Elena looked at him with a charming smile. ”I’ll take the role of protecting the protagonist, Fujimiya Amane. As for you, since you’ve already entered her life, you’re responsible for protecting the heroine, Shiina Mahiru. Any objections?”

Charlie nodded firmly, agreeing to the division of work without hesitation.

”No problem. I’ll make sure Mahiru stays safe, no matter how long it takes.”

”Oh right, since you’re already here, it saves me a lot of time. Wait here a second.” Elena suddenly remembering something important.

Without waiting for Charlie’s reply, she stood up—still with the towel wrapped around her body—and walked quickly toward her room.

Shortly after, she returned to the living room and tossed a small object toward Charlie. With sharp reflexes, Charlie caught it mid-air.

”Thanks for handling the identity issue.” He looking at the newly printed, very neat identification card. His personal data was now legally registered in this world.

Elena waved her hand dismissively, indicating it was a trivial matter for her.

”Don’t mention it. Besides that, Charlie, being unemployed all day is quite boring, isn’t it? I have an idea. How about we work at the school where the protagonist and heroine study?”

Elena leaned forward, her eyes sparkling with schemes.

”It’s like killing two birds with one stone. Aside from filling our free time so we don’t look suspicious, we can also protect the targets from close range. We can act immediately as soon as the enemy starts launching attacks on the school grounds.”

Charlie nodded in agreement; the suggestion was strategically very logical. ”That’s a good idea. So, are we going to go undercover as transfer students?”

Elena immediately made a disgusted expression, as if she had just heard the worst suggestion in the world.

”Huh? You’ve got to be joking! I graduated school a long time ago and have no intention of repeating it.”

”Sure, many people often feel nostalgic and miss their high school days, but how many of them actually want to sit in a classroom and take exams for a second time? At the very least, I don’t want to do it.”

Elena then looked at him seriously, ”Tell me what job you want there. I’ll go see the principal and hypnotize him into arranging whatever position we want. I personally plan to be the school nurse.”

Faced with the rare opportunity to choose a job based on his passion, Charlie rubbed his chin, reflecting in silence for a moment.

”In that case... I want to be a biology teacher.”

Elena furrowed her brow, looking puzzled by the choice.

”Biology? Why that subject? I thought a guy like you would prefer being a physical education teacher so you could see young girls in school swimsuits or tight gym clothes.”

”Even being a janitor wouldn’t be bad, right? You could have free access to the girls’ toilets or locker rooms.”

Charlie rolled his eyes lazily, staring at her with an annoyed expression.

”Do you really think I’m a pervert with no self-respect like that?”

Elena giggled at Charlie’s reaction and immediately raised her hands in apology.

”Sorry, sorry. I was just joking. It’s just that I’m too used to scolding the ’Perverted Trio’ at Kuoh Academy. Unconsciously, my view of men is always biased by the behavior of Issei, Motohama, and Matsuda.”

Stopping there, Elena suddenly narrowed her eyes. Her gaze turned inquisitive as she looked at him with a tone of voice deliberately made full of suspicion.

”Wait a minute... could it be that your reason for choosing biology is far more cunning than I imagined?” Elena rested her chin on her hand, smirking mischievously. ”You’re choosing it on purpose so you can explain body anatomy in depth to innocent young female students, aren’t you?”

”Teaching them the structural differences between men and women visually... or even offering to give private ’sex education’ sessions after school ends? You’re truly a wolf in sheep’s clothing, Charlie.”

The corner of Charlie’s eye twitched violently hearing the wild speculation coming from his colleague’s mouth. Without a word, he grabbed a sofa cushion near him and threw it at high speed toward Elena.

”Stop imagining nonsense, you perverted Devil!”

Elena nimbly dodged, laughing uproariously as she jogged away out of Charlie’s reach.

”Aha! Your reaction is too honest, Charlie! I’ll take that as a ’yes’!”
