Sweet Rebirth: The Little Healer

Hearing her brother say this, Guo Dongmei didn’t press the issue. Wang Yuan might be a little conniving, but she couldn’t stir up any real trouble. She was nothing to worry about.

”Since you like her, Big Brother, I’ll do you a favor and not force her to do that thing. But she shouldn’t think that just because she has you, she’s beyond my control. From now on, whenever I need her to do something for me—to deal with Zhao Nuanyue—she must help me without question,” Guo Dongmei laughed. ”Just make sure you don’t get too attached when the time comes!”

”Heh, you must be joking. How could I get attached? You’re my sister. Wang Yuan is just some woman,” Guo Donghai said with a laugh. ’I have plenty of women like her on the side. This won’t interfere with your plans.’ He was relieved; his sister had regained her composure and was able to think clearly and carefully again.

Guo Donghai was telling the truth. He was only defending Wang Yuan now so he could more quickly get his hands on the woman who had him itching with desire.

”Alright, then,” Guo Dongmei said with a sigh. ”I probably shouldn’t be focusing so much on Zhao Nuanyue. I should be focusing on Li Gongming and Wu Jingjing! If Wu Jingjing were to die, maybe the Li family would have to call off the engagement with the Wu family!”

”My dear sister, you’re still too naive.” Guo Donghai shook his head with a wry laugh. ”If Wu Jingjing dies, she still has a younger sister, doesn’t she? Wu Qiaoqiao? Political unions aren’t started or stopped over one woman, or even two. So don’t you go doing anything rash.”

”Sigh, I suppose this is how it has to be. If I mess up Father’s plans, I’m sure he’ll punish me severely. After all, I was born into a family of politicians. Father is intensely ambitious, so it’s only a matter of time before I’m sacrificed for his career. Isn’t this a sacrifice? Enduring this humiliation, giving birth to a child only to send it to the Li family?”

”Dongmei...” Guo Donghai’s heart ached a little. She was, after all, the little sister he had doted on his entire life. But he had no power to change things; Father was the one who made the decisions for the Guo Family. ”It’s not just you. Everyone in the Guo Family must be prepared to make sacrifices for the family at any time. We’ve all enjoyed the glory and wealth that come with being a part of this family, so we must all work to preserve it!”

”Yes, I know that. That’s why I’ve followed Father’s arrangements without resisting! I understand that my own well-being is tied to the family’s. Only when the Guo Family crushes the Li family and rises to the top, standing high above them all, will I be able to look down on Li Gongming and grind him under my heel to quench the hatred in my heart!”

Hearing his sister say this, Guo Donghai was finally at ease. As long as she understood that the Guo Family’s current position was hard-won, she would cherish it and willingly sacrifice for it.

”Alright, my dear sister. Go wash up and get some rest. The future of the Guo Family depends on us working together!” Guo Donghai said with a smile. ’Isn’t this a much better outcome for everyone?’

”Okay, Brother. You get some rest too. I can’t help much from home, so I can only rely on you to handle things out there!” Guo Dongmei smiled, but behind that smile lay a deep-seated hatred.

After Guo Donghai left and the door was closed, the smile on Guo Dongmei’s face finally vanished.

’Sacrifice?’

’The Guo Family’s interests?’

’That’s what Father says every time he uses me. But what have I ever gotten out of it?’

Guo Dongmei doubted her father’s words, but she couldn’t leave the Guo Family, either. So she had to accept his arrangements.

As for her father’s order not to make any moves, Guo Dongmei had no intention of obeying.

’I’ll keep having Wang Yuan poison Zhao Nuanyue. I’ll make her barren for life, and sooner or later, the Hua family will kick her to the curb!’

’That bitch Wang Yuan actually thought she could use my brother, Guo Donghai, to defy me. Heh, what a joke. Once this blows over, I’ll show Wang Yuan her place. I’ll make her do exactly as I say.’

’And as for Wu Jingjing, the woman who stole my man, I certainly won’t let her go.’

’Only Wu Jingjing’s death can extinguish the hatred in my heart.’

’As for Li Gongming...’ Guo Dongmei seethed. ’I must see him kneeling before me, begging pathetically.’

Zhao Nuanyue was completely unaware of the chaos unfolding within the Guo Family.

All Zhao Nuanyue could do was hope for Hua Yusen’s swift return.

He had been gone for a week now, and with no sign of his return, Zhao Nuanyue was growing extremely anxious.

Her master hadn’t returned, nor had Gu Qingyu.

Zhao Nuanyue was pacing anxiously, but she had no one she could ask. The stress was so great that within a few days, she had developed blisters on her lips.

”Big Sister, don’t worry! Big Brother-in-Law is fine!” Little Red Carp said, exasperated. Her sister had already paced countless circles around the courtyard.

”How can I not worry? He said he would be back in a week, but it’s been ten days now, and he’s still not here. What if something happened?” Zhao Nuanyue said anxiously. ”Their mission is confidential, so I can’t ask anyone for information. This waiting is killing me!”

The last time Hua Yusen fell into a coma had cast a shadow over her heart.

”Seeing as you’re so worried, I suppose I can reluctantly help you out,” Little Red Carp said, throwing her hands up and shrugging with an exasperated look.

Little Red Carp closed her eyes, perfectly still. Before Hua Yusen left for his trip, she had given him a stone. With that stone, she could sense his location even from a great distance and find out what was happening.

Zhao Nuanyue sat beside her, watching and waiting.

A long time passed, and Little Red Carp still hadn’t opened her eyes. Just then, Zhao Nuan Yang got home from work. Seeing his older sister and younger sister sitting there motionlessly, he asked curiously, ”What are you two doing? Are you meditating?”

”SHHH...” Zhao Nuanyue motioned for Zhao Nuan Yang to be quiet, so as not to disturb Little Red Carp.

So, Zhao Nuan Yang also sat down on a nearby stone stool, watching Little Red Carp with concern.

’Is she cultivating?’

Seeing that his sister didn’t look anxious, Zhao Nuan Yang pushed down his curiosity and waited quietly with her.

Finally, after half an hour, Little Red Carp opened her eyes.

”Little Red Carp, how did it go?” Zhao Nuanyue asked. ”Is your brother-in-law safe?”

Little Red Carp thought for a moment before replying, ”Big Brother-in-Law is safe.”

Zhao Nuanyue felt a wave of relief, but she was still puzzled. ”How do you know he’s safe?”

”I don’t know about anyone else, but Big Brother-in-Law isn’t hurt,” Little Red Carp replied. ”Do you remember that stone I gave him before he left?”

”Of course, I remember!” Zhao Nuanyue nodded. ”You said it was very important and told him to guard it like a treasure and always keep it with him.”
