Sweet Rebirth: The Little Healer

Her daughter had grown up without her realizing it and now had a mind of her own. To this day, her daughter still hadn’t told her how she’d managed to return to Jincheng City. Since her daughter was capable of living her life well, she didn’t want to interfere too much. She only hoped that her daughter could be happy.

Zhao Nuanyang stayed in the study, while Xia Yingyu and little fatty Zhao Yu stayed in what was originally Zhao Nuanyang’s room.

The small courtyard was filled with laughter!

Until sunset the next day, Xia Yingyu reluctantly followed behind Zhao Jinghai and left the small courtyard.

Zhao Yu had grown especially fond of Little Red Carp and cried buckets of tears, not wanting to leave.

”Little Red Carp, come with me! Mama, let’s take Little Red Carp with us,” Zhao Yu pleaded, clinging to her hand and refusing to let go. He was being more affectionate with her than he was with his own sister or Qin.

When Little Red Carp heard this, she was not happy!

’I only played with you because you’re a cute little fatty, and now you have the nerve to try and take me away!’

So, Little Red Carp quickly pried Zhao Yu’s hand off her arm and said, ”You need to stay with your mom and dad. Be good and go now.”

With that, she scampered away, leaving Zhao Yu wailing his heart out.

Zhao Nuanyue and Zhao Nuanyang didn’t know how to comfort Zhao Yu either. Even though he was their brother by blood, he wasn’t as important as Little Red Carp. Of course they wouldn’t let them take her away.

Seeing her son crying so heartbrokenly, Xia Yingyu quickly led him into the car. Then, she waved and said, ”Nuanyang, Nuanyue, take care of yourselves!”

”You take care too!” Zhao Nuanyang and Zhao Nuanyue said, waving as they watched their mother leave.

Once in the car, Zhao Jinghai saw his son pressed against the window, crying his heart out, and felt a surge of annoyance. This precious son of his wasn’t close to his own daughter, Zhao Huilan, at all. His mother, Wang Lianhua, had always claimed Xia Yingyu was instigating things behind his back, but he had never believed it, thinking a child so young couldn’t understand such matters.

But after seeing how close his son was with Zhao Nuanyue’s family today, he was starting to believe it.

Zhao Jinghai felt a pang of jealousy but didn’t scold him. He understood that this boy might have to rely on his capable older sister in the future. Even if he was annoyed, he couldn’t show it.

Although Xia Yingyu wasn’t sobbing, her eyes were red.

This sight frustrated Zhao Jinghai even more.

’His wife and son were both focused on outsiders. Just thinking about it was suffocating, but he couldn’t say much.’

’Can’t think about it, can’t look. Just need to get away quickly.’

’If I can’t win against them, can’t I at least hide from them?’

Watching Zhao Jinghai’s car drive away until it disappeared around the corner, Zhao Nuanyue’s eyes stung with tears again. But she didn’t cry. Instead, she lifted her face to the sky, letting the tears evaporate into the air.

Her mother, Xia Yingyu, had her own life and happiness, and she, Zhao Nuanyue, had hers as well.

As for her brother, he had already undergone a world of change and would find his own happiness in the future.

And Little Red Carp... she could only be described as the sweet fruit of a hundred lifetimes of good deeds Zhao Nuanyue had accumulated. She was a spirit who came to play in the mortal world, and her future would be even more brilliant.

Zhao Nuanyang’s tears still fell uncontrollably. Although he understood that his mother no longer belonged entirely to him, his deep-seated yearning for her love grew stronger each day, and he wished he could be with her.

However, his mother now had a husband and another son, so his own place in her life had become even smaller. Thus, he didn’t dare to hope for too much.

However, this somber atmosphere vanished completely when Hua Yusen arrived, carrying a large, eight-inch cake.

”Wow, a cake! Brother-in-law, you’re the best!” Little Red Carp exclaimed excitedly. ”Is this the legendary cake?”

Little Red Carp reached out, scooped up a dab of frosting with her finger, and popped it into her mouth to taste.

”Yummy! This is so delicious!” Little Red Carp was ecstatic and couldn’t wait. ”I want to eat cake! I want to eat cake every day!”

Zhao Nuanyue brought over chopsticks and spoons to divide the cake, while Little Red Carp stared at the cream cake with longing eyes.

It was divided into four portions, one for each of them.

Hua Yusen shook his head and said, ”I don’t really like overly sweet things. You can have it.”

Little Red Carp stared longingly at the two pieces of cake in front of Zhao Nuanyue and said pitifully, ”It’s so nice to have a fiancé. You get to eat a double portion!”

”Haha!” Hua Yusen burst out laughing. He loved hearing that.

’Zhao Nuanyang was speechless. This little sister of his was such a foodie. In the future, could she be lured away by anyone who offered her a tasty snack?’

Zhao Nuanyue didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. She pushed her own cake in front of Little Red Carp and said, ”Actually, having a big sister is great too. Little sister gets to eat two portions!”

”Mhm, mhm, yes! Having a big sister is the best! Little Red Carp is so happy.” Little Red Carp’s eyes crinkled into happy slits. She was overjoyed. ’This is so delicious! I’d be even happier if I could eat this every day.’

’Being human is great!’

’In the water, all I could eat was weeds and fish. It was so boring.’

’I’m so grateful to my old master for letting me take human form and live such a happy life.’

Zhao Nuanyue took a bite of cake, then scooped some up with her spoon and offered it to Hua Yusen.

He normally didn’t like overly sweet cream cakes, but seeing as it was offered by Zhao Nuanyue, Hua Yusen ate it gladly.

”Hua, where did you buy this cake?” Zhao Nuanyue asked. Since Little Red Carp liked it so much, she wanted to buy some for her in the future.

Hua Yusen smiled and said, ”At the Friendship Restaurant. That’s the only place that has it. I’ll bring you more next time I go.”

”Mhm, mhm, Brother-in-law is the best,” Little Red Carp said, beaming sweetly at him and showering him with praise. She had long forgotten how she used to be wary of him, guarding against him as if he were a thief.

Hua Yusen was also very pleased. ’Looks like this trick works well. I’ll use it again next time,’ he thought.

”If it’s too much trouble, you don’t have to,” Zhao Nuanyue said politely. ’Little Red Carp is just a child, but I can’t be like that. Resources are scarce right now. When things get better in the future, there will be more of these things available.’

”It’s no trouble,” Hua Yusen said with a smile. ”My job is quite special, so getting things like this is easy. You don’t have to be so polite. My parents don’t eat sweets, and we don’t have any young children, so I brought it for Little Red Carp. Look how happy she is eating it.”

Little Red Carp nodded as she ate. ”Mhm, I’m super happy! In the future, I’m going to open a cake shop so I can eat cake every day, all the time!”

Zhao Nuanyue reached out and poked Little Red Carp’s forehead, chiding affectionately, ”You, you little glutton. If you really eat that much, you’ll turn into a little fatty.”

”Uh-uh, I want to be pretty, not fat!” Little Red Carp shook her head repeatedly. She didn’t want to become a chubby girl. There was a very fat girl in her class, and everyone said she wasn’t pretty.

”Then you can’t be a picky eater. It’s not right to stuff yourself with food you like and not eat a single bite of things you don’t,” Zhao Nuanyue said, taking the opportunity to teach Little Red Carp a lesson. ”Oh, and eat more vegetables!”

’Zhao Nuanyue thought that since Little Red Carp was a carp who used to eat water plants, eating too many meat dishes might not be good for her.’
