Sweet Rebirth: The Little Healer

At the same time, she also received a letter from Wang Yuan. Surprisingly, there was a letter for Zhao Nuanyue inside the envelope as well.

But Zhao Nuanyue had already returned to Jincheng City. Why hadn’t she gone to see Wang Yuan?

Was Zhao Nuanyue in some kind of trouble? Or was it for some other reason?

Li Qiong was a bit lost in thought. She was staying in the Dragon King Temple, and when Yang Guanghui came in, he saw her looking bewildered.

”Li Qiong, what are you thinking about?” Yang Guanghui asked. ”By the way, what did Nuanyue write in her letter?”

”Nothing much. I just find it strange that Nuanyue didn’t contact Wang Yuan after getting back to Jincheng City. Wang Yuan even wrote a letter to Nuanyue. I don’t know what to make of it,” Li Qiong replied, then looked at Yang Guanghui to see what he thought.

Yang Guanghui was also taken aback. ”Maybe Nuanyue didn’t have time?” he asked uncertainly.

”No!” Li Qiong shook her head. ”Nuanyue had time to write to me, to you, and to Uncle Qian, Aunt Qian, and Uncle He in the backyard. So, ’not having time’ shouldn’t be the reason. Besides, in her letter, Nuanyue not only said she’s engaged to Hua Yusen, but she also included the wedding date. We originally thought it would be a while before Hua Yusen woke up, but he actually woke up last month and has already returned to work. So I feel like Nuanyue has even less reason not to contact Wang Yuan.”

Since they were so far apart, Li Qiong couldn’t ask Zhao Nuanyue directly, so she could only let her imagination run wild.

”Heh, don’t overthink it. Who knows what the situation in Jincheng City is like?” Yang Guanghui said. ”Right now, it’s just you and me in the Dragon King Temple. You’re engaged to Li Jianjun now, so it’s a happy ending for you lovebirds. As for me, I’m destined to be alone for the rest of my life.”

Hearing Yang Guanghui’s words, Li Qiong handed Zhao Nuanyue’s letter directly to him. ”Here, take a look. Nuanyue is subtly reminding us to study hard. In any case, I’m going to keep at it. I believe in Nuanyue.”

After reading it, Yang Guanghui nodded. ”You’re right. We can’t give up. We have to keep working hard.”

Far away in Jincheng City, Zhao Nuanyue was happy to receive Li Qiong’s letter, but the mention of Wang Yuan made her sigh.

It was fated that she and Wang Yuan could never be friends.

Li Qiong and Yang Guanghui didn’t know what Wang Yuan had done, but Zhao Nuanyue did, and she would never forgive her.

Furthermore, Wang Yuan had once poisoned Gu Qingyu, so naturally, Gu Qingyu wouldn’t let her off the hook. The only reason Wang Yuan was fine for now was probably that Gu Qingyu was too busy to deal with small fry like her.

For both professional and personal reasons, Zhao Nuanyue would not get close to Wang Yuan.

When Li Qiong came to Jincheng City, Zhao Nuanyue would explain it to her, but now was not the time.

Hearing that Li Qiong was getting married in the winter, Zhao Nuanyue thought about waiting until the weather turned cold to buy a piece of red woolen cloth and make a coat for her as a gift.

Just as the good news about Li Qiong and Li Jianjun arrived, Hua Yusen brought even better news.

Old Sir Qian, Old Madam Qian, and He Qiang could return soon.

”That’s wonderful. The two elders can finally receive fair treatment and come back soon,” Zhao Nuanyue said excitedly.

Hua Yusen nodded as well. ”Yes. When they return, they’ll start working on document organization, education, and other matters.”

”That’s great!” Zhao Nuanyue exclaimed, then threw herself at Hua Yusen and kissed him fiercely.

Hua Yusen knew Zhao Nuanyue would love this kind of news. Even after leaving Nianqiao Village, this loyal and sentimental girl still cherished the people there and worried about the elders’ well-being. How could she not be happy now that they could return?

Letting materials be fully utilized and people’s talents be fully developed—a school was where Old Sir Qian and Old Madam Qian truly belonged, not some remote village.

”Is there a definite date for their return?” Zhao Nuanyue asked. ”If we can find the key to their house and help clean it up so they can move right in when they get back, that would be such a heartwarming thing to do.”

”They’ll depart from Nianqiao Village on the sixteenth of next month,” Hua Yusen replied. ”That’s still more than half a month away. We have time to arrange things, so there’s no need to rush.”

”Okay. I’ll go clean once you get the key,” Zhao Nuanyue nodded. ”Then let’s take Little Red Carp to Brick City for fun tomorrow. The little tyke has been wanting to go for ages.”

”Sure. I also promised her I’d carry her on my back when she gets tired of walking,” Hua Yusen chuckled. ”But I have a better idea. We’ll have Nuanyang carry Little Red Carp, and I’ll carry you.”

”No need, I can climb Brick City by myself,” Zhao Nuanyue said, shaking her head. ”You should carry Little Red Carp. That girl has an excellent memory. She won’t forget a single word of your promise.”

”Alright.” Hua Yusen had hoped to take advantage of the situation while carrying Zhao Nuanyue, but it seemed that wasn’t happening.

The next morning, the weather was fine and clear.

Zhao Nuanyue packed a backpack with some pastries, a water canteen, and a light blue cloth with a sprout pattern. They were going out for the day and wouldn’t be back for lunch, so they would have a picnic, which would be a special treat.

Little Red Carp was especially excited, sticking her head out of the car window from time to time during the drive. The sight made Zhao Nuanyue’s heart leap into her throat. She quickly pulled Little Red Carp into her arms and said angrily, ”You sweet-talker, how can you do something so dangerous?! If you fall out, you little meatball will turn into a meat patty! And a completely mangled, unrecognizable one at that!”

”Hee hee!” Little Red Carp quickly planted a kiss on her sister’s cheek. ”Sis, the scenery outside is so beautiful!”

”Don’t change the subject.” Zhao Nuanyue put on a stern face. This little girl didn’t know the meaning of fear, always doing dangerous things. ’If I had a heart condition,’ she thought, ’I’d probably have been scared to death by Little Red Carp by now.’

Seeing her sister was angry, Little Red Carp’s big eyes darted around.

”Sis, Little Red Carp was wrong. I won’t lean on the car window anymore,” Little Red Carp pleaded pitifully. ”That was too dangerous. It was very wrong of me.”

In reality, what Little Red Carp was thinking was, ’Even if I fell out, I’d be fine. I wouldn’t get smashed into an unrecognizable meat patty.’

”If you know you’re wrong, then you need to change. You’re a child, you can’t do dangerous things like that,” Zhao Nuanyue instructed. ”You have to be obedient to grow up healthy and pretty. Naughty children get spanked.”

”If I were a grown-up, would it be okay then?” Little Red Carp asked meekly.

”Grown-ups can’t do it either.” Zhao Nuanyue shot a glare at Little Red Carp. ’This child is such a handful,’ she thought. ’Lately, Little Red Carp is always finding loopholes in what I say, and it’s exhausting trying to keep up.’

It’s good for a child to be smart, but being too smart can be a real headache.
