Sweet Rebirth: The Little Healer

Seeing Zhao Nuanyue, Liu Jian finally breathed a sigh of relief. Now he wouldn’t have to go look for her.

”You’re finally here,” Liu Jian said with a smile. ”Sen was worried something had happened and sent me to find you!”

Zhao Nuanyue smiled. ”Sorry to have troubled you.”

”Not at all,” Liu Jian said with a smile. Once Zhao Nuanyue was inside, he and the other bodyguard took turns going to eat.

Hearing Zhao Nuanyue’s voice, Hua Yusen rushed out, pulling the door firmly shut behind him before moving closer to her.

”Nuanyue, what’s wrong?” Hua Yusen asked. ”Did you run into trouble?”

Although Zhao Nuanyue had tried her best to conceal her frustration, Hua Yusen knew her so well that one look into her eyes told him something was wrong.

”Sigh, it’s not a big deal,” Zhao Nuanyue sighed. ”Ever since I came back to Jincheng City, I haven’t gone back to visit my mother, precisely because I don’t want to see Wang Lianhua and her lot. I never thought that not long after I offended Guo Dongmei, that Wang Lianhua would show up near my house. The last time, I managed to avoid her; she didn’t see me. This time, I had just stepped out the door when she spotted me. There was no hiding from her.”

”Here in Jincheng City, you don’t have to hide from anyone,” Hua Yusen said, looking at Zhao Nuanyue. ”Whether it’s Guo Dongmei, Wang Lianhua, or Zhao Jinghai—none of them get to bully you. Now that I’m awake, I won’t let anyone push you around.”

Hua Yusen’s words warmed Zhao Nuanyue’s heart, and she beamed. ”Heh, with you around, I really don’t have to be afraid of them.”

Thanks to Hua Yusen’s words, Zhao Nuanyue’s mood brightened.

”Heh, let’s not talk about those irrelevant people,” Zhao Nuanyue said with a laugh. ”Here, I brought you black fish soup. You should have some now.” She then went to the kitchenette, took out a bowl and chopsticks, and served the soup and fish, along with soft white steamed buns and a side of cold-tossed Dragon Wisdom Grass.

”Wow, where did you get black fish? And is that Dragon Wisdom Grass?” Hua Yusen exclaimed in pleasant surprise. ”I can’t wait to dig in! It smells amazing!”

Zhao Nuanyue puffed out her chest proudly. ”Qingya Lake is right in my backyard. Nuanyang and I both know how to fish, so we catch them there. As for the Dragon Wisdom Grass, I brought some seeds back from Nianqiao Village last year and tried planting them in the water. To my surprise, they actually grew, and they taste even better than the ones from Nianqiao Village.”

’Of course, this was because Qingya Lake, located in Jincheng City’s Imperial City district, contained Dragon Energy that nourished the Dragon Wisdom Grass.’

”This is amazing,” Hua Yusen praised as he ate. ”I’ve been missing our days in Nianqiao Village, but I’ve missed the food even more.”

”Oh? So you only miss the food, and not the person?” Zhao Nuanyue feigned disappointment with a sigh. Her wounded expression was like a pair of tiny hooks, making Hua Yusen’s heart itch with affection.

Hua Yusen reached out and pinched her nose with a laugh. ”Of course I miss the person more!”

”That’s more like it,” Zhao Nuanyue said, satisfied. ”By the way, did the doctor say when you can be discharged?”

”Your master is coming this afternoon to examine me. If everything looks good, I can be discharged tomorrow,” Hua Yusen said with a smile. ’Finally, I can get out of this hospital.’

’Things outside are so unpredictable. He’d been unconscious for so long and had already missed so much. Now that he was awake, he couldn’t waste any more time. He had to seize the moment.’

”That’s good,” Zhao Nuanyue nodded. Hua Yusen was awake and healthy, and she was completely at ease. But a thought then crossed her mind: after he was discharged, he would go back to the Hua family. Since they weren’t married, even as fiancés, it wouldn’t be proper for them to see each other every day.

Besides, he would be very busy, and she had to study at Immortal Grass Hall, so their chances to meet would be even fewer.

Zhao Nuanyue’s expression grew a little wistful.

When Hua Yusen finished his meal, he noticed Zhao Nuanyue’s distracted expression.

”What’s wrong?” Hua Yusen asked softly. ”I know you can’t stand Zhao Jinghai’s family. I’ll warn him to keep them in line and tell them not to bother you, so you don’t have to worry about it.”

”That’s not really a big deal; I’m not taking it to heart,” Zhao Nuanyue said, shaking her head. ”I was just thinking that once you leave the hospital, we won’t be able to see each other as often.”

Hearing this, Hua Yusen burst out laughing.

”You silly girl,” Hua Yusen laughed. ”We’re engaged! Even if we can’t be joined at the hip just yet, I can still come see you all the time. You know I’m thinking of you every second of every day. The moment I have free time, I’ll come running to you.”

”Alright,” Zhao Nuanyue said softly. ”I just wish our wedding day would come sooner. Once we’re married, we’ll be able to see each other every day.”

”My, my, someone’s awfully eager to get married,” Hua Yusen teased, a roguish grin spreading across his face.

Zhao Nuanyue’s hand shot out and pinched his waist. Glaring at him, she snapped, ”You ungrateful scoundrel!”

”Ow, ow, ow!” Hua Yusen yelped in pain. ”Little Nuanyue, have mercy! I’ll never speak such nonsense again, I swear!”

”I’m not letting go!” Zhao Nuanyue said, tilting her chin up defiantly. ”Say something nice, and maybe your queen will spare you.”

Hua Yusen put on a pained expression. ’The consequences of my big mouth are severe,’ he thought. ’My Little Nuanyue looks so gentle, but when she’s angry, she turns into a little kitten with sharp claws.’ He thought for a moment, then said, ”The truth is, I’m the one who can’t wait to marry my Little Nuanyue. I wish we could get married this very second.”

”Hmph! And?” Zhao Nuanyue prompted, still not satisfied.

”I love Little Nuanyue the most!”

Zhao Nuanyue still didn’t let go.

”Little Nuanyue is the gentlest and most wonderful woman in the world!”

...

Zhao Nuanyue still wouldn’t let go. Hua Yusen was starting to panic; the spot on his waist was probably going to turn purple. He had said everything under the sun, exhausting his entire vocabulary of compliments, but nothing seemed to be enough to soothe Zhao Nuanyue’s indignation.
