Sweet Rebirth: The Little Healer

Sun Haoran had seen his share of turmoil. His medical skills were superb; not only was he a master of the four traditional diagnostic methods, but he was also an expert at reading people.

”Now that you’re awake and fully recovered, your father might be having some regrets. I could tell from the moment you woke up that day,” Sun Haoran said slowly. ”Don’t bother denying it; I saw your father’s expression. In the future, he might treat Nuanyue poorly. He might even try to nullify your marriage and have you wed a woman from another prominent family.”

Hua Yusen was taken aback. After a moment of thought, he shook his head. ”My father may indeed be concerned with family status, but Nuanyue has been so loyal and devoted to me. Even if he’s not happy about her background, he’ll consider the Hua family’s reputation and won’t do something like break off the engagement. I’m sure of it. Besides, after everything the Hua family and I have been through, I’ve learned that having someone you truly love is far better than having unreliable in-laws.”

”Let’s hope your father can understand that as well,” Sun Haoran said slowly. ”You know better than anyone how Nuanyue has treated you, so I hope you will always treat her well. Even if your parents and your family are dissatisfied with her or biased against her, I want you to stand by her side and protect her.”

Hearing her master’s words, Zhao Nuanyue’s eyes filled with tears.

She had been feeling uneasy these past few days. Although she was overjoyed that Hua Yusen had woken up, she had buried her anxiety deep in her heart and tried not to let it show. But her master had seen it all and had personally spoken to Hua Yusen, asking him to protect her.

Zhao Nuanyue was deeply moved by his care. ’I’ll study medicine diligently, carry forward the legacy of Immortal Grass Hall, and repay my master for his kindness and protection.’

”Uncle Sun, I will remember this,” Hua Yusen nodded. ”Nuanyue is the woman I love, and I will protect her. If my parents reject her because of her family background, I will still defend her and never let her be mistreated.”

”Good. Remember what you’ve said today.” Sun Haoran nodded, looking at Hua Yusen with a serious expression. ”If you ever fail Nuanyue, I won’t let you off the hook. You might think that as a mere doctor, there’s nothing I can do to you or the Hua family, but don’t underestimate me. My reach is not as simple as you imagine. I may not be able to deal with you myself, but I can ask the people who beg me for treatment to deal with you.”

For Sun Haoran to have so quickly become one of Gu Qingyu’s trusted confidants after returning to Jincheng City, it couldn’t have been due to his medical skills alone. There were definitely other factors at play.

Hua Yusen had his suspicions about this, but he didn’t know the full story.

Still, Hua Yusen understood that Sun Haoran was only saying these things to protect Zhao Nuanyue and to ensure he would treat her well.

”Uncle Sun, I understand all of this,” Hua Yusen nodded. ”I know this comes from a place of genuine concern, and I promise Nuanyue and I will be happy together. We won’t let you down.”

”It doesn’t matter if you let me down. After all, our relationship is one of mutual benefit. You saved me back then, and now I’ve done my best to save you. But Nuanyue is different,” Sun Haoran said slowly. ”If you fail a woman who has done so much for you, then you are clearly not a man who can be trusted.”

Hua Yusen was shocked. ’I’ve never even considered failing Zhao Nuanyue.’ He realized just how important she had become, to the point where Sun Haoran would say such things. ’If this is what Sun Haoran thinks, then Elder Gu must feel the same way.’

For both personal and practical reasons, Hua Yusen knew he had to treat Zhao Nuanyue well.

”Master, actually...” Zhao Nuanyue wanted to tell him that he didn’t need to say such things to Hua Yusen for her sake. The Hua family was on a meteoric rise, and she didn’t want her master to offend them on her account.

Sun Haoran waved his hand, signaling for Zhao Nuanyue to be quiet.

Hua Yusen nodded. ”Yes, Uncle Sun. I will remember.”

”See that you do.” With that, Sun Haoran turned and left.

At that moment, only Zhao Nuanyue and Hua Yusen were left in the room.

Hua Yusen walked over to Zhao Nuanyue and pulled her into a tight hug. ”Nuanyue, did you hear me? What I just said wasn’t just to appease an elder. I wanted you to hear it too, so you’ll stop feeling so insecure.”

”I’m not insecure. I know your heart, and I trust you,” Zhao Nuanyue laughed, planting a small kiss on Hua Yusen’s chin. ”By the way, your sister Yu Fen is leaving the day after tomorrow. We should give her a proper send-off tomorrow.”

”Okay, I’ll head home tonight,” Hua Yusen nodded. ”You should come with me.”

Zhao Nuanyue shook her head. ”You should have a family reunion today. I won’t intrude. It’s a good chance for me to go home tonight and prepare a gift for Yu Fen. You can come pick me up tomorrow morning, and I’ll visit the Hua family with Little Red Carp and Zhao Nuan Yang.”

Hua Yusen listened and nodded. ”Alright, let’s do that.”

Hua Yusen was discharged from the hospital. He took Zhao Nuanyue, Little Red Carp, and Zhao Nuan Yang home to Qingya Lake before heading back to the Hua family estate.

After returning home, Zhao Nuanyue seemed a bit distracted.

”What’s wrong, Sis?” Little Red Carp asked, seeing her sister looked out of sorts. ”Are you missing your brother-in-law already?”

Hearing her sister’s words, Zhao Nuanyue didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. She poked Little Red Carp’s cheek with a slender finger. ”You little rascal, always spouting nonsense. How could I be missing your brother-in-law? We just saw each other.”

”Then what are you thinking about?” Little Red Carp asked with a grin. ”Tell me! Little Red Carp can help you come up with ideas!”

Zhao Nuanyue thought for a moment before saying, ”Your brother-in-law’s sister is about to go abroad for work. I’m going to her farewell tomorrow, and I don’t know what kind of gift to get her.”

”Oh, so Sis is trying to butter up her sister-in-law,” Little Red Carp pouted, her words dripping with jealousy. She pulled a long face.

Little Red Carp was not happy.

Zhao Nuan Yang, who was organizing his drawing paper off to the side, heard Little Red Carp’s comment and shook his head with a helpless laugh.

’Little Red Carp was always so cute. A bit bossy, but she brought so much joy.’

Zhao Nuanyue reached out and pinched both of Little Red Carp’s cheeks. ”And where did you learn to say such jealous things?”

”I used to hear all the gossip in Nianqiao Village. I know how these things work,” Little Red Carp said proudly, a ”you can’t fool me” look on her face. ”You’re only thinking about getting a gift for your sister-in-law, not about your little sister.”

”That’s not true! Didn’t I just make you new clothes?” Zhao Nuanyue said with a pained expression. ’This bossy little sister of mine is being completely unreasonable.’ But she loved this side of Little Red Carp all the same.

Little Red Carp thought about it and had to admit that her sister gave her plenty of things.

’Fine. She would be the bigger person this time and not bicker with her sister.’
