Sweet Rebirth: The Little Healer

Guo Donghai strode out, seething. This family, this house... it was suffocating him.

Seeing her brother act like this, Guo Dongmei realized he probably did want to take things further with Wang Yuan.

Wang Yuan understood that Guo Dongmei didn’t want her getting too close to Guo Donghai—after all, he was already married. Even though he was the scion of a prominent family, Wang Yuan had no desire to get involved in some ambiguous affair with him.

”Wang Yuan, you should know that my brother is already married. You’d best not get any ideas,” Guo Dongmei warned. ”My sister-in-law isn’t nearly as reasonable as I am. Do you understand what I’m saying?”

Wang Yuan stiffened, then nodded. ”I understand!”

As she turned away, Wang Yuan found Guo Dongmei’s threat incredibly irritating. A scheming resentment toward her took root in her heart.

Before Guo Dongmei’s warning, she genuinely hadn’t considered pursuing anything with Guo Donghai. However, Guo Dongmei’s condescending attitude infuriated her, sparking a desire to cause some destruction.

She buried this thought deep in her heart.

When she got to the gate, Wang Yuan found her bicycle and prepared to leave.

Guo Donghai’s voice called out from a nearby car. ”Wang Yuan, let me give you a ride home.”

”There’s no need. I have my bike,” Wang Yuan refused, not slowing down at his words.

’You can’t just try to please a man all the time. Sometimes, a little rejection is an effective tactic.’

’People always want what they can’t have.’

’And they cherish what they have to work hard for.’

This was something Wang Yuan had learned from Zhao Nuanyue.

Guo Donghai drove after her. When they reached a wider stretch of road, he suddenly accelerated, pulling up in front of Wang Yuan and stopping.

Not wanting to crash into the car, Wang Yuan had no choice but to stop.

Just then, Guo Donghai got out of the car, lifted up Wang Yuan’s bicycle, and said, ”Like I said, I’m giving you a ride.”

Wang Yuan was dumbfounded. ’Isn’t he being a little too forward?’

’To be so attentive for no reason... he must be up to no good.’

The saying was certainly true. Wang Yuan didn’t believe she was so beautiful that Guo Donghai would fall for her at first sight, so she was thoroughly baffled by his actions.

With that said, Guo Donghai tossed Wang Yuan’s bicycle onto the roof of the car, opened the passenger door, and commanded, ”Get in!”

Under Guo Donghai’s intense gaze, Wang Yuan found herself unable to refuse. There was even a voice inside her telling her not to.

”You really don’t have to go to all this trouble!” Wang Yuan mumbled, her face flushing as she lowered her head. ”Why... why are you taking me home?”

’This is what he liked—a woman’s shy and gentle demeanor. So much better! Not like that tigress at home. Her average looks were one thing, but on top of that, she wasn’t the least bit gentle. She treated him like a criminal.’

”Heh, because I want to,” Guo Donghai replied in a low voice. ”It’s a beautiful woman’s prerogative.”

”Huh?” Wang Yuan started, her heart pounding with a mix of shock and suspicion. ”This... this isn’t right. And I’m no great beauty... People... people will get the wrong idea.”

Guo Donghai smiled and replied, ”Even if people saw us, it wouldn’t be a misunderstanding. I’ll admit it—I fell for you at first sight.”

’Love at first sight?’

Wang Yuan didn’t believe such a lie, but hearing it from the tall, imposing Guo Donghai still made her feel a little pleased with herself.

’After all, she wasn’t bad-looking. The fact that a scion of the Guo Family was interested in her was proof enough of that.’

”You... you...” Wang Yuan stuttered. ”This isn’t good. It’s wrong. You’re already married.”

”Ugh, don’t even mention that soul-crushing marriage. It’s a grave. I can’t stand the sight of that woman for even a single day,” Guo Donghai said coldly. ”If you asked me who I hate most in this world, it wouldn’t be my enemies. It would be her.”

”That woman,” Wang Yuan understood, could only be his wife.

’What kind of woman could make her husband say he hates her more than his own enemies?’

Wang Yuan was taken aback. ”There’s a deep bond between a husband and wife,” she said. ”Maybe if you change how you look at things, you could find a little more happiness.”

”You don’t understand.” Guo Donghai shook his head. ”I know you don’t believe I fell for you at first sight, but please, allow me to be around you from time to time, so you can understand how I truly feel.”

Wang Yuan froze for a moment, then quickly shook her head. ”I can’t. You’re married. I may just be a girl from an ordinary family, but I know that this would be immoral. Anyway, I’m home now. Thank you for the ride.”

Wang Yuan pointed to an alley up ahead, telling Guo Donghai to stop.

Guo Donghai pulled over and got her bicycle down from the roof.

’She was already twenty-two, in the prime of a woman’s life. Compared to being groped by that fat, old foreman at the factory, being with a young, masculine man like Guo Donghai...’

’...At that moment, Wang Yuan felt cherished, and it felt wonderful!’
