The Interstellar Queen of Scavengers

Chapter 1443: Chapter 1443: Unexpected

The wind is calm and the waves are quiet.

Suddenly, a man who had been unwilling to put down his wine bottle smiled and said, ”Are we overreacting a bit? It’s been so long, and there’s still no sound at all, there must be no problem.”

As he spoke, he took a sip of wine and said, ”Aliang, stop waiting and let’s go quickly. If we wait any longer, it’ll be dark, and being outside at night is even more dangerous.”

Everyone agreed after hearing this. Immediately, someone chimed in, ”Why don’t we go now? If we finish digging, we can catch the last spaceship tonight.”

Uncle Liang thought for a moment and agreed, deciding to set off immediately when A Ke stopped him, speaking softly, ”Uncle Liang, don’t go.”

Uncle Liang said, ”There shouldn’t be any danger.”

A Ke said, ”I just feel something’s wrong. I can’t explain it, but it’s making me increasingly uneasy.”

Granny Chen couldn’t help but advise, ”Aliang, you can’t earn all the money in the world. It’s better to be safe. Since A Ke says something feels off, there must be something unusual that we haven’t noticed.”

Uncle Liang thought about it, shook his head, and said, ”The mine isn’t too far. If we don’t go soon, someone else might discover it.”

”Granny, don’t worry. I have a family to take care of, so I’ll certainly be cautious.”

Then, after a few more words with A Ke and Granny Chen, Uncle Liang decided to set off.

A group of 11 people had only taken a few steps when a breeze suddenly blew across, which they initially didn’t think much of, only wondering why a wind suddenly came up.

Uncle Liang slowed his pace.

The man holding the wine bottle took a small sip while walking and couldn’t help but frown as he urged, ”Don’t be paranoid, hurry up already.”

”Don’t go!!!!!!” Before A Ke could finish, suddenly a huge roar echoed, and a shadow leaped out from the forest hundreds of meters away, pouncing directly on the man holding the wine bottle, ripping him in half in the next instant.

The entire event, from start to finish, occurred so swiftly that the man holding the wine bottle did not even have time to let out a scream of fear. He was already gone.

Everyone who witnessed this froze with fear, which then overwhelmed their hearts, sending them fleeing without a second thought!

But the Star Beast would not give its prey a chance to escape.

It leapt towards the few people left at the back, scarcely needing any effort to tear through several of them. The remaining people initially tried to band together against it, but its terrifying presence scattered their composure, sending them immediately running away.

Uncle Liang also ran. Among this group, he was quite capable, otherwise, he wouldn’t lead them, but this Star Beast was too fearsome. Just its massive body alone was akin to a small Floating Car, something ten Uncle Liangs couldn’t withstand.

He had to run.

Uncle Liang roared, his face nearly contorted:

”Run fast!”

”Spread out!”

”Quickly!”

...

The scene was chaotic, and those slightly slower found themselves in the Star Beast’s jaws. Uncle Liang didn’t dare to look back at the horror unfolding, the once vast dock felt like a small playground for this quick, massive, yet agilely rabbit-like Star Beast.

It darted around the small plaza of the dock, like a fish swimming, and with human speed being completely outmatched, anyone it caught was immediately done for.

The tension was extreme.

Nobody dared harbor any hope and could only desperately flee in panic. The wide open plaza and dock were no longer safe; everyone dashed into the forest, seeking cover quickly.

At the moment the Star Beast appeared, A Ke’s pupils shrank abruptly. Without another word, he grabbed the adjacent Granny Chen and ran!

Run?

Where to run?

No idea, but staying at the dock meant certain death!

Others thought the same as A Ke, and everyone rushed toward the forest, but suddenly another gigantic Star Beast emerged from the woods, coincidentally facing off with the people about to enter the woods!

”!!!”

The unexpected moment left some crying, some unable to stand as their legs shook, some rendered speechless from fright...

This Star Beast leisurely walked out, eyeing the humans, and swiped its paw, sending the closest person flying!

Bang!

Before the person hit the ground, blood was already spraying everywhere.

...

It was brutal.

The scene was too gruesome, Granny Chen collapsed on the ground from fear, A Ke gripping her hand: ”Quick! Run.”

Granny Chen’s mouth gaped open: ”I... A Ke... you go on without me.”

As an old lady, there was no way she could outrun these two Star Beasts.

A Ke’s forehead was dripping with large beads of sweat, yet he stubbornly held Granny Chen’s hand: ”Think of Jiajia and them!”

Upon hearing this, Granny Chen suddenly burst with immense energy, and with a swift motion, she got up from the ground, grabbed A Ke’s hand, and ran.

The two Star Beasts continued rampaging through the crowd, leaving a trail of misery in their wake. As Granny Chen made to dart into the forest, A Ke slipped and glimpsed an abandoned restroom. Without thinking, he dragged Granny Chen toward it.

Granny Chen was a bit dazed but followed A Ke nonetheless.

They rushed to the restroom, where apart from the peeling walls, it offered no cover, but A Ke acted without hesitation, extracting digging tools from his basket to smash at the sewer. Within moments, a stench erupted.

Ignoring the smell, A Ke urged, ”Granny, smear it on yourself.”

Some Star Beasts had incredibly keen senses of smell, and covering oneself with such foul substances could mask one’s scent, so A Ke rolled on the ground, coating himself thoroughly in excrement.

Granny Chen immediately understood the critical point and followed suit.

No matter if it worked or not, they could only try their best now; the pair moved swiftly, their bodies soon stripped of any clean spot.

Immediately, A Ke, without further thought, pulled Granny into the cesspool, covering their heads with a malodorous cloth to conceal their every scent. Then they clenched their mouths tight, holding back any noise, even trying to steady their wildly beating hearts.

Hoping those two Star Beasts wouldn’t find them.

Waiting was a long and torturous experience.

But!

This time, as though the Goddess of Fortune had forgotten them, just as they hid, they heard a violent tremor on the ground, as if something massive was heading their way.

A Ke’s heart soared to his throat!
