The Interstellar Queen of Scavengers

Chapter 1436: Chapter 1436: Leaving Nami Star

When Principal Hong said this, his tone was relatively calm, but as soon as the words landed, it was like a bolt of lightning that struck the hearts of Ji You and the others.

Boom boom boom——

Everyone’s eyes widened in tension, desperately wanting to believe they had heard wrong.

However, Principal Hong’s tone remained calm as he continued, ”It’s true that the space rift has opened earlier than expected. This is a fact, unchangeable and unstoppable. Don’t show that doomsday face; it looks very foolish. You are military academy students and will be a solid barrier for the Alliance on the front lines in the future. Show some composure and poise.”

Ji You, Chu Jiaojiao, and the others all clutched their pounding hearts, wanting to shout how absurd the idea of composure and poise was, as they couldn’t calm down at all.

Amidst the panic on her friends’ faces, Ji You finally found her voice. She clutched her heart and asked, ”Principal... does this mean the beast tide might arrive early?”

Hong Jiang nodded, ”That’s correct.”

Ji You’s heart was racing.

Early!

How could it be early?

Chu Jiaojiao asked, ”Why?”

The others also stared at Principal Hong. Principal Hong was not a particularly patient teacher. He snorted, ”I don’t know.”

Everyone: ”...”

Ji You remembered what Teacher Mu Jianling had told her before. Generally, a space rift opens once every hundred years, and the timing is very precise. Since humans have recorded space rifts, they’ve never occurred early. Moreover, after a space rift opens, the beast tide can appear within two to three years or as long as five to six years.

The timing of the beast tide’s appearance is not very fixed. Furthermore, not only is the timing unpredictable, but the initial outbreak location of the beast tide is also uncertain. This makes humans passive, unable to deploy in advance, prevent it, or reduce casualties.

However, since humans discovered the space rift and recorded its opening times and patterns, they finally found a slight pattern to the beast tide’s outbreak. At least, they can roughly determine the beast tide’s timing and take precautions within the entire human territory.

This has reduced casualty rates somewhat over the past few hundred years.

Space rift opening early?

For humans, this is undoubtedly a very unwelcome accident!

Ji You asked, ”Principal, are we returning to the academy now?”

Principal Hong nodded and said, ”That’s right, due to a large-scale Star Beast anomaly at the front line, we’re concerned about other potential accidents, blocking of the route, and inability to return. Therefore, the official competition has been canceled.”

Having just come out of the medical room not long ago, Yue Qiyuan’s face was still a bit pale. He looked up, a bit worried, and asked, ”Principal, if we don’t continue the competition, how will the final spots be determined?”

The space rift slots are contested in the finals.

If we don’t compete now, what about the slots?

Everyone came to this competition not only to spar with others and win honor for the school but also for an important task: obtaining a ticket to the space rift.

After Yue Qiyuan’s question, the others stared at Principal Hong, and he said, ”The slots are determined based on your group competition results. The top ten in each camp battle points ranking will automatically earn slots.”

Principal Hong paused slightly, looked at Lou, Yu Song, and Lance, and said, ”That means you three do not have slots.”

The three: ”...”

Heartbreaking.

It’s too heartbreaking.

Principal Hong said, ”It doesn’t matter; getting a slot isn’t necessarily a good thing.”

Lou asked, ”Why?”

Principal Hong didn’t answer. Sitting next to him, Dr. Luo softly said, ”Do you think the space rift is your playground? If you’re not strong enough, entering the space rift is very dangerous. Historically, the mortality rate is about 10%.”

Everyone was shocked!

Chu Jiaojiao, Shen Changqing, Sheng Qingyan, and others, though born into noble families, had not been educated about things related to space rifts by their elders.

Hearing the high mortality rate, they were all very surprised.

Principal Hong glanced at several of them and said, ”Not getting a slot is a form of protection for you.”

This is the truth; however, Lou, Yu Song, and Lance did not seem particularly happy. Among the group, Yu Song, who had always been low-key, suddenly clenched his fists and said, ”I’m not afraid of death; I’m afraid of not having the chance.”

As long as he was given a chance, even at the risk of death, he would be willing.

After Yu Song spoke, Lance and Lou clenched their fists and said, ”Me too!”

Principal Hong, upon hearing this, unexpectedly did not strike them down. Instead, he said, ”Work hard. Don’t let yourself become someone who never gets a chance.”

The three responded loudly, ”Yes.”

The brief conversation did not ease anyone’s mind. The entire spaceship interior was shrouded in a vague cloud of unease.

At the dock, it’s clear that the atmosphere wasn’t good just on Ji You’s spaceship; it was the same for everyone else.

Dr. Luo said, ”Because we’re worried about accidents happening on the way, we temporarily applied for a small, military spaceship. Everyone, sit down properly; we’re about to take off.”

Ji You and the others quickly sat down.

At the dock where the First Army’s flying devices were parked, spaceship after spaceship flew into the sky, quickly breaking through the atmosphere and leaving Nami Star.

Soon.

It was Lanyue Star Military Academy’s spaceship’s turn. This time, it wasn’t the students piloting the spaceship but Dr. Luo. Dr. Luo had a gentle appearance and spoke softly, but once he sat in the cockpit, he seemed like a different person. Suddenly, the spaceship’s internal broadcast burst out with earth-shattering music!

Ji You almost fell out of her seat!

Liu Fufeng rolled right off the bed in his compartment.

Chu Jiaojiao managed to keep her position, but beside her, Yu Song, Yue Qiyuan, Lance, and the others, who had just gotten out of the medical room not long ago, looked pale.

This deafening dance music almost fainted the poor, weak students, and even Principal Hong couldn’t take it. He stopped shaking his leg, directly cursing, ”The cabin is about to be turned over; can you keep it down a little?”

Dr. Luo, wearing headphones, bobbed his head, tapping his foot to the beat, deeply enjoying himself, completely oblivious to other people’s voices.

Despite shouting several times, Dr. Luo didn’t hear him. Hong Jiang, unable to bear it, simply went to the lounge, put on noise-canceling equipment, and isolated all sound, finally finding peace in his world.

Ji You and several other students glanced at each other, their faces filled with despair.

Chu Jiaojiao covered her ears and said, ”Doomed. I feel like I might not die in a Star Beast’s mouth, but I might die prematurely from Dr. Luo’s dance music. I’m leaving.”

Slam!

She closed her cabin door, seeking quietness.

The rest of them looked at each other. They had originally wanted to stay together and discuss things, but——

Forget it.

In an instant, everyone returned to their respective rest areas.
