The Interstellar Queen of Scavengers

Chapter 1252: Chapter 1252: Rules That Make People Unhappy

Ji You finished speaking, and her eyes casually glanced towards the city gate direction of the military base. She felt regretful for not being able to find an excuse to go in and take a look. How many troops are stationed inside, what’s the weaponry configuration, the types of weapons...

She currently knows nothing about any of this.

Moreover, judging by the posture of these students guarding the base, they guard it very tightly. Without enough trust, they obviously won’t easily let others in for a look.

And trust?

Can trust really be built so easily in a short time?

Li Yun and Bai Hui are also clearly very curious about what’s inside this military base. However, as military academy students and reserve soldiers, everyone has basic self-discipline. Even if they are curious in their hearts, they won’t make any sneaky moves.

Ji You pondered for a moment, then said: ”Classmates, since we can’t cooperate for the time being, I won’t bother you any longer. I’ll take my two teammates and leave. If we’re lucky, maybe we’ll find a team willing to cooperate at the next base?”

As she spoke, there was a slight hint of bitterness in her tone.

The boy suddenly asked, ”Did you say you’ve already run through over twenty bases?”

Ji You felt a surge of joy, realizing that she could linger a while longer, perhaps find an opportunity to mix into the base. So, Ji You nodded vigorously, her face covered in weary dust, and replied, ”Yes. We came all the way from the south, but everyone seems to have no intention of united defense. They all want to wait until the official announcement of the beginning of the competition before making a decision.”

The boy furrowed his brows and asked again, ”Did you say you led your teammates to the enemy camp?”

Ji You’s face subtly changed, the originally tired look became a bit sorrowful and guilty in an instant: ”It was a mistake in my decision-making which caused 5 teammates to be lost.”

The boy turned to Li Yun and Bai Hui, asking: ”Are they your original teammates too?” Through the previous conversation, he had already learned that Ji You led her original teammates into combat which resulted in the demise of 5 members. By asking this, he aimed to verify the truthfulness of Ji You’s words.

Ji You seemed a bit confused about why he kept questioning her, showing a trace of bewilderment and confusion on her face. She blinked her lashes and shook her head saying, ”No, they are teammates from the squad I recently joined.”

The boy glanced at Li Yun and Bai Hui, both of whom nodded.

Then.

The boy asked again, ”What about your original teammates?”

Ji You, appearing completely unguarded, replied: ”They were injured and couldn’t make long journeys. They’re currently staying at the new squad helping to guard the base.”

After listening, the boy bowed his head and pondered for a while before saying, ”So over 3 hours have passed since entry, and the real competition hasn’t started yet, why is that?”

The six students behind him also followed in serious contemplation.

”Not only has it not started, but as far as I know, even small-scale conflicts haven’t occurred. My initiative to confront the enemy camp shouldn’t count, but the other teams, including the enemy personnel, have no intention of initiating attacks. They are all quietly guarding their bases.” Ji You said after this, she touched her chin: ”I guess, all my speculations are unverified. Do you think our Commander has additional arrangements which are inconvenient to disclose to us, the lower-ranking warriors, hence no movements here?”

Li Yun murmured: ”It’s because the competition officials haven’t announced the official start yet...”

Upon hearing that, Ji You frowned immediately and, with firm conviction, said: ”Li Yun, I’ve already said, and reiterated countless times, my intuition tells me this group battle doesn’t follow conventions, it doesn’t go the conventional route, understand? It means not playing by the rules, otherwise, why would there be points shown for the enemy soldiers I defeated?”

This question being posed, everyone fell into contemplation, but Ji You didn’t give them much time to think. She started explaining: ”Because the group battle has already begun! Only when it’s started can the enemy be eliminated and can I earn points.”

The boy guarding the military base became even more solemn upon hearing this. He and his teammates, a total of 20 members, entered the arena and received instructions and prompts just to guard the military base and wait for tasks from superiors or the Commander.

Otherwise, there were no prompts at all.

In fact, these 20 people were trapped inside the base with no way to receive orders, completely blindsided.

Points?

What is that?

They didn’t know before.

The boy and his teammates all showed puzzled expressions. Ji You immediately acted kindly, explaining word by word, ”This thing, a lot of people inside probably don’t know. I only discovered there are points inside the arena because I took the risk to try. Furthermore, individual points are independent and not calculated towards the group’s.”

Upon hearing this, other people clearly furrowed their brows.

Ji You raised her hand and swore: ”Really, I’m not lying to you guys. I personally killed 4 enemy soldiers, earning 4 points. My 2 teammates killed 1 each, that’s one point each. Some other teammates also completed kills, but since they’ve already been eliminated, whether the system credited them points or not is temporarily unseen. We cooperated as a whole squad, I have 2 points in hand, achieved together with teammates, but since I made the fatal strike, the system credited the points under my name.”

”Group?”

”Our Team 7 hasn’t earned a single point.” Ji You said, her tone carrying a hint of misunderstanding of the rules and quite a bit of anger: ”The design of these points is very unreasonable.

My glory is also my teammates’, they at least deserve to share a big part.

But—

Now it only counts under my name alone.”

Ji You said this sincerely. Yet, the information she divulged to the students guarding the base wasn’t very pleasing.

Whoever kills, earns the points?

In this way, who would be willing to cooperate? Collaborating with others, fulfilling others, without any benefits and risking elimination, who would be willing? Nobody is foolish.

Of course, the most crucial reason is—

All the students present don’t know each other, nor are they acquainted, not representing the same school with the same goal and ideal. It means every student represents fundamentally different interests, who would sacrifice themselves for an outsider to succeed?
