Rebuilding the Immortal Cultivator Clan

Chapter 1987: Chapter 1462: Ahead of Schedule (2)

”Mm, it seems they believe the remaining Water Devils in the East Sea are no longer sufficient for their needs, so they’ve chosen to leave.”

After reading, an Elder happily said, ”This is wonderful news for our clan!”

Nearly a million cultivators have entered the East Sea. In the past, with the size and strength of the Sea Clan, they could easily bear it and satisfy so many people’s needs.

But now, that’s impossible. Most of the Sea Clan’s strength has moved to the Western Sea, locked in struggle with the Demonic Tao, so these other major factions can only choose to relocate.

The Li family did not get involved, for even now, with the East Sea left with but a fraction of its former strength, it is still more than enough for the Li family’s needs. There’s no reason to embark on a long and arduous journey elsewhere.

Even if, in the end, there’s still a slight shortage, the various mountain ranges within Shanhai State abound with devil beasts for the clan members’ tempering. These are enough to make up any deficiency.

Thus, although this great calamity is a bit troublesome for the Li family, it remains relatively easy to resolve, unlike for other major factions.

”If things continue as they are, barring unforeseen events, the clan should be able to weather this great calamity in peace.” After a mental calculation, Li Zhirui muttered to himself.

Almost half the clan members have already resolved their own cause and effect. Some, like Li Xiuting, had long since ended their cause and effect, yet are still striving for the clan.

The Water Devils that remain in the East Sea, plus the devil beasts in the Shanhai State’s various mountain ranges—so long as the calamity doesn’t end abruptly, the Li family will safely survive this tribulation.

As for those loose cultivators in Shanhai State? The Li family can spare them no thought; they can only rely on their own skills and fortune to resolve their karmic ties before the calamity ends.

Thinking thus, Li Zhirui felt that no great battles would erupt in the clan for some time. He likely wouldn’t be able to end his cause and effect by slaying more Heavenly Immortals, so he planned to use merit now, to neutralize his karmic debt.

His main concern was that, should something unexpected occur and the calamity suddenly end, if he still carried his karmic debt, he would have to spend far more merit to offset it.

At any rate, even if wars broke out again in the future, any Heavenly Immortals he slew would still yield merit in the end.

Thus, at worst, Li Zhirui would only be losing a bit of merit—hardly a loss worth mentioning.

...

Two flowers bloom, each with its own branch.

Unlike before, when only Li Zhixuan and Han Tong, two Heavenly Immortals, were locked in battle, now the depths of the starry sky are constantly echoing with booming explosions.

Though the great calamity has only broken out for a few months, in the past, at this time, the Heavenly Immortals would still be seated on the clouds, overlooking the slaughter among the low-level beings below, regarding their life-and-death struggles as a game.

But now, they’ve entered the fray so early of their own accord!

It’s not because Li Zhixuan’s earlier battle roused so many Heavenly Immortals to action—she lacks the face and the skill to do so.

The reason Heavenly Immortals have gone down so early is mainly that the cultivators worry that tarrying too long in the West Continent could lead to unforeseen changes.

The result: the depths of the starry sky are filled with battles between the Heavenly Immortals.

Especially since, at this level, no victor can be decided quickly—old wars are not yet ended, while new ones are already beginning!

”Slash!”

Li Zhixuan concentrated fully on the opponent looming not far ahead.

At the start, she had feigned weakness to lure the Water Devils; she thought their strength unremarkable and was not concerned. But after truly exchanging blows, she was astonished to find the creature’s combat ability anything but weak.

Thus, in a short time, there was no way to end the battle.

She did not realize that the devil beast was growing increasingly alarmed as the fight dragged on. Though this sword cultivator’s condition was not great and her cultivation not particularly advanced, her combat power was truly immense, forcing it to concentrate intently in defense—only thus could it preserve its life.

...

Heavenly Court, Palace of the Polestar.

Today happened to be the Divine Path assembly, so the palace was packed with Divines, waiting to report their official affairs of late.

”Your Majesty, these human cultivators and Water Devils are treating the starry sky as their battlefield. While they have not done great damage nor dared to offend the Heavenly Court or attack Divines,

the outbreak of such large battles in the starry sky inevitably damages the prestige of the Divine Path.”

Moreover, the depths of the starry sky are pitted and scarred—one cannot help but shake one’s head at the sight.

”Hmm, there is indeed an issue here, but it’s not one we are able to solve.” Purple Micro responded, but did not explain the reason.

This is because the starry sky as the battleground for Heavenly Immortals is ordained by the Heavenly Dao itself—they could not possibly change it.

And not just this once: in the future, the depths of the starry sky will always be the killing ground between the Heavenly Immortal beings.

”Your Majesty, now that the human race holds the advantage on all battlefields, should we intervene and help? When the calamity is over, humans will surely reward us handsomely.”

Hearing this, some Divines immediately furrowed their brows, their faces darkening as they glared at him.

A glint of shadow flickered in Purple Micro’s eyes. He said, ”Adding flowers to brocade is never as good as sending charcoal in the snow. Since the human race already holds the advantage, why not support other races instead? Wouldn’t that bring us even greater rewards?”

His words made it clear: he did not wish to intervene or assist.

”Your Majesty is not wrong, but that assumption depends on those other races actually being able to win this war! If they are defeated by the humans, what will they have left to offer us in gratitude?” But this Divine, like a headstrong youth, pressed the issue and even began to explain to Purple Micro.

It appeared that this Divine—though born of the human race—was focused on the greater good, not seeking benefits for his own kind due to personal ties.

But what he truly thought, only he himself knew!

”Absolutely not, Your Majesty!”

Another Divine soon stepped forward and said, ”We are Divines, favored by the Heavenly Dao. We are untouched by cause and effect, need not bear calamity, and ought to remain outside such affairs, not wade in as helpers!”

”If, as Divine Yunbo says, we go to help the human race, wouldn’t that be like pushing those who only just escaped the fire back into the pit?”

He actually wanted to suggest the Divine Path help the demon race from which he hailed; if the Divine Path intervened, the situation would immediately shift!

But as an onlooker just now, he’d seen clearly that Purple Micro had no wish to get involved, so when he spoke out, he changed his language, no longer seeking aid for the demon race but preventing the Divine Path from entering the fray!

And, indeed, these words spoke directly to Purple Micro’s heart.

In his view, once one became a Divine and joined the Heavenly Court, one was a person of the Court, having left one’s old life behind.

Those Divines who always sought advantage for their original origins received neither promotion nor favor!

”Yes, what Divine Hanyu says is right. There’s no need for us to get involved in this cause-and-effect entanglement. Instead, we should use this chance to deepen our cultivation and strengthen ourselves.” Purple Micro nodded, setting the matter to rest.

”If there is nothing else, return to your duties and perform them earnestly!”

Seeing no one else speak, he was first to rise and depart.

The other Divines then filed out of the Palace of the Polestar in order of their cultivation and rank.

Divine Domain of Sun and Moon.

”Big Brother, should we help the human race and attack the Sea Clan Heavenly Immortals? Maybe we could gain merit and break free sooner.” Li Chengshuo’s avatar brought back the content of the recent assembly, inspiring this thought in her.

Li Chengsheng shook his head, gravely explaining, ”You’re seeing only the benefits, not the hidden troubles!”

”If you join the calamity, the cause and effect erased by the Heavenly Dao will reappear. By then, it won’t be about earning merit, but repaying karmic debt—a dangerous trade indeed!”

”What?!” Li Chengshuo was shocked, but curious how Li Chengsheng knew this.

”I once sent a subordinate Divine down to the mortal realm and learned of this matter from him.”
