Reborn As Super Heiress

Capítulo 1596: Chapter 1580: Stalled

The car reached the town, and from there it continued towards the village. However, it hadn’t gone far when they saw a BMW 5 Series leisurely driving ahead, and the driver quickly reduced the speed.

The village roads were all gravel, narrow, and overtaking was a bit difficult.

Moreover, the BMW was a bit arrogant, driving in the middle of the road instead of on the right, leaving no room for cars behind to overtake.

After a few hundred meters, even Huo Sining was getting anxious; this speed was really too slow.

At first, she thought this chatty driver was a speedy guy who would surely honk to signal the car in front, but this time, he was as quiet as a small wife, obediently following the BMW, driving steadily like an old gentleman.

“Driver, you don’t seem like such a timid person, so what’s going on? See a BMW and now you’re all meek, not making a sound?”

Seeing this, Huo Sining was puzzled and couldn’t help teasing.

The driver quickly explained, “Young lady, don’t get it wrong; I’m not afraid of the BMW, but of its license plate!”

“License plate?” Huo Sining was bewildered and glanced towards the BMW’s rear.

It had a local license plate, but looking at its number, Huo Sining couldn’t see anything special: “What’s the deal with this license plate?”

The driver nodded, smiling, “You folks are from out of town, so you might not get it. We locals know better. See the four consecutive 2s on the plate? Here in Changnan, getting 2s in a row is harder than getting 8s elsewhere, especially four of them. Such people usually have a background and can’t be messed with.”

Huo Sining was stunned to hear this, thinking the Porcelain Capital is certainly interesting, with such unique tastes.

Even though the driver seemed chatty and simple, he wasn’t dumb. He knew which license plates to avoid, showing he was quite savvy.

With the car in front going slow, the cars behind naturally slowed down. Soon after, a BYD followed them, and Huo Sining glanced out the window, noticing it also had a local license plate but with a rather ordinary number.

Just as Huo Sining was about to look away, something startled her, as behind the BYD, there was an Audi SUV. She couldn’t see the full license plate, but she faintly saw the word at the beginning: ‘Jing’.

It was a car from the Imperial Capital! Huo Sining instinctively nudged Gu Xu beside her, signaling him to check the car behind.

Receiving Huo Sining’s cue, Gu Xu looked back, saw the SUV’s plate, and subtly frowned.

Both showed doubt in their eyes, exchanged a look, and simultaneously speculated: Could it be that the car in front and the two behind were all heading to the village?

The mountain road twisted further in, finally reaching Xia Luo Ping Village, where Huo Sining and Gu Xu intended to go.

Their suspicion was confirmed when the BMW, the BYD, and the Audi followed them the entire way to Xia Luo Ping Village, which instinctively made Huo Sining feel something was off.

She exchanged a glance with Gu Xu, who, after a while of silence, asked, “Driver, this place is quite remote. This village is the end, isn’t it?”

The driver shook his head, “Not really; there’s a reservoir ahead. I’ve gone fishing there before. The village is remote, the reservoir is state-owned, and few people go there, but the fish is very tasty. If you’re staying in the village today, we could check it out; I even have fishing gear in the car, and I’ll show you how it’s done…”

The driver was starting to ramble again, but Huo Sining heard some useful information and immediately smiled:

“Driver, you seem to know people in this village. How about this, drive straight to your acquaintance’s home and say we’re here to fish at the reservoir, would that work?”

The driver was taken aback but then seemed to understand, chuckling, “Sure, why not? I get it, you folks want to keep it low-key, afraid of people hiking prices if you’re here to collect goods, right?”

“You’re right to do this; as soon as we entered the village, several luxury cars followed us. I bet they’re also here to collect goods. Competitors are foes after all; disguising yourselves avoids conflict. If you come across something good, quietly buy it and leave to avoid trouble. Those luxury car owners look well-connected, and if anything happens, it’s best to avoid them.”

Huo Sining couldn’t help but laugh, not expecting her offhand plan to spin so many reasons from the chatty driver.

Shortly after entering the village, the BMW pulled over beneath an old camphor tree next to an eastern courtyard.

The chatty driver didn’t expect the BMW to stop suddenly, performing an emergency brake, followed by his attempts to restart the engine failing several times. The driver finally couldn’t hold back his frustration, cursing, “Damn!”

Before Huo Sining could understand what happened, she saw the driver embarrassedly looking at her and Gu Xu: “The car’s broken down and won’t start. I’ll get out to check…”

Huo Sining: …

What happened to the modified car, the good condition, and the guarantee of no issues?

The driver couldn’t bother explaining much to them, jumping out, grabbing tools from the trunk, popping the hood, and inspecting the car while cursing, “Damn it, why break down now?”

Both Huo Sining and Gu Xu were speechless, and just then, the BYD and Audi parked beneath the camphor tree, but no one got out; they just extinguished their engines, with no movement whatsoever.

Feeling that this was bizarre, Huo Sining didn’t understand what those cars were doing.

At this moment, perhaps noticing something unusual with their car, someone slowly rolled down the window from the back seat of the BMW with the four 2s series.

Huo Sining glanced slightly, and upon recognizing who was inside, she instantly froze.
