Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 1581: Chapter 1565: Will-o’-the-Wisp

Fujiwara Seiho had no idea what Oil Rat was plotting. After a brief rest, they continued forward.

However, they had been wandering in the corridor for hours, completely exhausted, so this time, the whole team wasn’t very enthusiastic. Even the well-trained bodyguards inevitably slacked off.

Originally, Long Shan Zhang thought he could make a fortune by inviting Gao Yuyuan and Oil Rat. However, he was now filled with regret, wishing he hadn’t made that call which attracted a nemesis. Now, he was also trapped in the labyrinth along with Fujiwara Seiho, and he wasn’t sure if he would make it out alive.

Even Gao Yuyuan was utterly exhausted, yet being Fujiwara Seiho’s most trusted subordinate, he didn’t dare show any dissatisfaction, although Fujiwara Seiho himself hadn’t complained.

At this moment, he was indeed gnashing his teeth in hatred towards Old Mr. Zhong, swearing that if he got out alive, he wouldn’t let that old devil have it easy.

If it weren’t for Old Mr. Zhong giving him a fake map, they would probably have already retrieved the item and left by now.

Now trapped in the cave, Gao Yuyuan knew he couldn’t seek revenge on Old Mr. Zhong, but he still blamed him for everything. Fueled by this anger, he did everything he could to conserve his strength, constantly thinking of a way out.

By midday, everyone was slumped on the ground, motionless. Gao Yuyuan took out the meager food from his backpack, dividing some among everyone. Although it wasn’t much, at least it was something.

No one spoke, their eyes glazed over as they stared blankly at the cave entrance. The entire cavern was eerily quiet; only the sounds of breathing and heartbeats were audible.

It’s unclear how much time had passed when suddenly Long Shan Zhang tugged on Gao Yuyuan’s sleeve. In a trembling voice, he whispered, ”Mr. Gao, did you see that? There’s something glowing in the cave? It’s blue, could it be... ghost fire?”

Fear showed in Long Shan Zhang’s eyes. Already trapped in the cave, seeing such a bizarre thing only added to his anxiety, making him shiver uncontrollably.

Following Long Shan Zhang’s indication, Gao Yuyuan looked in the direction he pointed. The cave entrance was pitch black, and he saw nothing.

”There’s no ghost fire, you must be seeing things. Long Shan Zhang, if you don’t do wicked things, you won’t fear ghosts knocking. You’ve done too many bad things, scaring yourself!”

Annoyed, Gao Yuyuan pulled his sleeve back, casting an irritated glance at Long Shan Zhang, with mockery and disdain flashing in his eyes as he sneered sarcastically.

”No, I really saw it!”

Long Shan Zhang defended himself, turning back towards the cave entrance in confusion. On scrutinizing again, there was indeed nothing glowing.

Long Shan Zhang stood stunned. Was he really seeing things?

As he was about to turn back, out of the corner of his eye, he caught a glimpse of two bluish glows flickering in the darkness of the cave.

The glowing thing reappeared!

Two ghostly blue lights flickered inside, making Long Shan Zhang feel like a chilling wind was blowing down the corridor, as if someone were breathing down his neck. He stiffened, standing up abruptly with fear, tightly gripping his pistol, and pointed towards the cave entrance with a shaky voice, ”There’s ghost fire!”

His voice, filled with fear, was loud enough that even Fujiwara Seiho heard.

Fujiwara Seiho paused for a moment and looked in the direction Long Shan Zhang pointed at, and indeed saw two blue lights floating by.

”Let’s go take a look!”

Fujiwara Seiho exchanged glances with Gao Yuyuan and, with two bodyguards, approached the cave.

Within a few steps, they reached the entrance. They scanned it with flashlights but saw no one.

”Sir, there’s nothing there. Maybe Long Shan Zhang is just trying to spook us, scaring his own people!”

Seeing nothing in the corridor, Gao Yuyuan couldn’t help but complain.

Fujiwara Seiho said nothing, but his eyes remained fixed on the cave.

His eyes had clearly seen a figure standing in there, but now, approaching, no one was visible?

While Fujiwara Seiho was still puzzled, suddenly two ghostly blue eyes emerged unexpectedly inside the cave.

”Sir...”

They were just about to step out of the cave when those cold blue eyes appeared, causing cold sweat to run down their spines. They gripped their guns tightly, frozen in place.

”Hmph! Human or ghost, come out!”

Fujiwara Seiho didn’t believe in such supernatural nonsense. Seeing the ghost fire, he snorted coldly as a throwing knife darted toward the glowing lights.

”Meow—”

A cat’s cry echoed in the cave. A black shadow then darted to Fujiwara Seiho and the others’ feet.

Fujiwara Seiho narrowly avoided being scratched by cat claws, swiftly sidestepping just as the cat shot out of the cave, landing beside Oil Rat.

”It’s just a cat! What a fright!”

Realizing it was just a cat causing trouble, Gao Yuyuan breathed a sigh of relief, mentally chastising Long Shan Zhang for making a fuss. A cat had terrified him!

”Wait!”

Just as everyone was relaxing, Fujiwara Seiho reacted first, ”How is there a cat in the tunnel? The stone trap is sealed, and it’s a labyrinth inside. How did the cat get in?”

Hearing this, they all looked at one another, shaking their heads. The cat wasn’t brought by them.

Oil Rat was the sharpest among them. Suddenly understanding Fujiwara Seiho’s implication, he exclaimed, ”Mr. Fujiwara, you think there’s something wrong with this cat?!”

Fujiwara Seiho nodded solemnly, ”We didn’t bring the cat in, yet it’s here. This means it didn’t come in by itself, but possibly was brought by others! Look, the cat’s wearing a bell on its neck, indicating it has an owner. This suggests we’re not the only ones in this cave!”

Just as Fujiwara Seiho finished speaking, the cat seemed to understand his words, quickly darting down another corridor.

Seeing this, Fujiwara Seiho’s expression darkened. Ignoring Long Shan Zhang and Oil Rat sitting there, he shouted at the others nearby, ”Quick, follow that cat!”

Gao Yuyuan nodded and, carrying the bomb-laden suitcase, was the first to enter the corridor. The others followed suit, with Oil Rat and Long Shan Zhang trailing behind, not daring to linger.

No one noticed that after they left, a few seconds later, a black shadow slowly emerged from the corridor where the cat had previously darted out.
