Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 1562: Chapter 1546: The Stalking Predator

The four Bagua Charts are indeed exactly the same as the Bagua Tai Chi Rotating Wheel on the stone wall in front of them, with the only difference being the twisted text on the parchment Bagua Charts, which no one understands.

While Huo Sining was carefully examining the charts in front of her, Gu Xu’s expression suddenly turned cold. He shifted his stance, swiftly threw the icy knife in his hand towards the nearby woods, and sternly shouted:

”Who’s there, come out!”

In just a moment, Huo Sining and Qibao barely had time to react before realizing Gu Xu had made a move.

Almost as soon as the knife plunged into the woods, Huo Sining and Gu Xu heard a barely audible groan from that direction, indicating that someone had been hit!

Someone was in the woods!

The faces of Huo Sining and Qibao changed dramatically, especially Huo Sining, since this was deep within the forest of Shenmuzhai’s Rear Mountain, along the cliff edge, where logically no one should be.

But she suddenly thought of her third uncle and those Miao Village tribesmen searching for the Mountain Chief and Oil Rat on the rear mountain. Perhaps they hadn’t found anyone near the peak and instead searched all the way here.

Huo Sining squinted slightly. When she had activated this stone wall mechanism, she had not avoided anyone, not expecting that someone was listening nearby.

The person also seemed to realize that their cover had been blown, making further hiding pointless. With a laugh, they applauded while slowly emerging from the hidden woods, exclaiming, ”I didn’t expect Mr. Gu’s knife-throwing skill to be so advanced. I am impressed!”

Upon seeing this person’s face, Huo Sining was shocked and her eyes widened: ”Why is it you!”

Indeed, the person stepping out was Mr. Huang, who had been with Li Jun, though Huo Sining hadn’t interacted with him much, he was wearing a black cloak concealing his entire figure. She had encountered him recently in the underground tomb near the Modu Reservoir, so with just a glance, she recognized him.

Behind Mr. Huang were two others, one being Miss Yue with the Wood Spirit Pearl attribute, and another whom Huo Sining didn’t recognize, likely an underling. It seemed his skills were lacking, given that he held a hand to his injured shoulder. Clearly, the groan belonged to him after being struck by Gu Xu’s knife.

”It’s rare that Miss Huo can still recognize me!”

Seeing Huo Sining blurt out their identities, Mr. Huang candidly joked instead of pretending.

However, Huo Sining’s eyes were filled with suspicion. She didn’t understand how these two had found their way here.

”What are you doing here?”

Huo Sining looked at the trio with suspicion, pondering inwardly whether they were also trying to intervene in the Miao Village rear mountain affair? What treasures are hidden in this mountain to attract so many people?

”Actually, we came here by accident,” Mr. Huang shrugged, explaining helplessly.

Such vague explanations didn’t convince Huo Sining at all, though she didn’t show it on her face.

Mr. Huang saw her unbelieving expression and bitterly laughed, continuing, ”We bought a special skeleton at an underground black market auction. Interestingly, strange characters were engraved on it, and following the directions brought us here.”

At his words, Huo Sining froze, immediately thinking of Qibao’s father and mother whose bodies were missing, and inevitably of the two new corpses now occupying the previously empty coffins.

She remembered clearly that her third aunt-in-law had told her how the Mountain Chief and others had dug up Qibao’s parents’ graves, only to find them empty except for two fishbone corpses.

She abruptly lifted her head, focusing firmly on Mr. Huang, ”Did you buy a fishbone corpse?”

Mr. Huang didn’t deny, he looked at Huo Sining and said, ”Following the characters led us to the village. We initially sought to inquire quietly and unexpectedly encountered the Luoyang Shovel used in tomb raiding at the Modu Reservoir, by someone called Oil Rat.”

”We found it odd, as that person was arrested by the police. Why would they be out again? Our curiosity led us here.”

After he finished, to validate his statement, Miss Yue nodded, adding, ”We followed Oil Rat and his team here and hadn’t figured out what was happening when you arrived.”

Upon hearing this, Huo Sining couldn’t help but ask, ”Are you interested in this too?”

Mr. Huang laughed, not concealing his intentions, ”Miss Huo, why ask the obvious? Although I don’t know why they’re here, Oil Rat is a tomb raider seeking profits, enduring hardships in these remote places must have significant motives. Since we encountered it, why not explore?”

Huo Sining nodded. She wasn’t particularly interested in whatever treasure there might be, her purpose in coming here with Gu Xu was solely to capture Oil Rat and Gao Yuyuan, then follow clues to Old Mr. Zhong to solve Zhong Fang’s issue.

Mr. Huang seemed to discern Huo Sining’s thoughts and faintly smiled, suggesting, ”It seems Miss Huo seeks people, so it appears we have no conflict. If you trust me, how about we cooperate?”

”Cooperate?” Huo Sining queried Mr. Huang, unaware of his motives, ”How would this cooperation work?”

”You aim for people, I aim for treasure. We can enter together, cooperatively activate the mountain’s mechanisms, and if treasures are found, I’ll split them fifty-fifty with you. How does that sound?”

Mr. Huang spoke leisurely, seemingly confident of Huo Sining’s agreement.

Huo Sining saw his speech manner and pondered, ”Together inside? The mechanism seems complex. There’s a Eight Trigrams Array upon entering the rear mountain, and here the stone wall reveals Bagua Charts. It looks troublesome. Are you holding some trump card ensuring success?”
