Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 1445: Chapter 1429: Sudden Mutation

The emcee initially thought the security guard came to cause trouble. His eyes immediately showed disgust, inwardly criticizing the organizers for allowing such a low-quality person into the security team, daring to come up on stage and make a scene.

However, this thought barely crossed his mind before he froze, his expression changing from impatience to shock, then gradually drained of color, filled with fear and horror.

The man in the security uniform was stepping towards him, undoing the buttons on his uniform as he walked, while his other hand directly pulled out a gun from behind his waist.

The security guard had a gentle smile on his face, but there wasn’t the slightest warmth in his eyes; his whole demeanor exuded a sense of murderous intent.

”Mr. Emcee, I said I’d bid fifty million, why didn’t you ask if there was anyone willing to bid higher?”

As he spoke, the man with the gun swept a sharp gaze across the audience below the stage.

Faced with this sudden change, the audience below was already dumbfounded. No one expected that the security guard would dare to go up on stage and point a gun at the auction emcee. It was too sudden, and for a moment, everyone below just stared blankly, not daring to speak, each like a startled bird.

Huo Sining and Gu Xu exchanged a glance, both seeing surprise and concern in each other’s eyes.

The other guests might not yet realize the seriousness of the situation, but Huo Sining and Gu Xu both had noticed that this wasn’t a prank. The man in the security uniform was very likely here specifically for this ancient zither.

”Since there’s no higher bid than mine, shouldn’t this item be mine?”

The man smiled, suddenly raised his hand, and pulled the trigger directly.

A gunshot rang out, the emcee on stage collapsed, the bullet piercing through his forehead. The force was so great that it blew open the back of his head, splattering red blood mixed with white brain matter all over, shocking the guests sitting below.

The emcee’s body continued to twitch, but the bloody figure could no longer stand up. It was then the crowd below realized what had happened. After a brief pause, a piercing scream awakened everyone, making them realize this was no prank.

These wealthy people who normally lived in comfort, going anywhere only via luxury car, lazier than even an emperor, erupted with unprecedented physical strength in the face of such danger. Each of them scrambled to escape towards the elevator and emergency doors, simultaneously uttering sharp screams and cries of alarm, causing immediate chaos on the scene.

However, their escape was apparently futile. As they rushed to the elevators and emergency doors, they discovered, for unknown reasons, the power was out for the elevators, and the emergency doors were locked shut, trapping them inside with no way out.

And at this moment, all the lights in the venue went out suddenly, plunging the entire place into darkness. The men and women who had come for the auction, originally poised and graceful, were now either roaring in anger or wailing.

Huo Sining and Gu Xu crouched under their chairs, their gazes tightly fixed on the stage. Though the venue had lost its source of light, as their eyes adjusted to the pitch black, they gradually began to see some vague outlines.

In the darkness, Huo Sining saw another person on stage at some point, seemingly arguing with the security guard holding the gun. But because of the chaotic cries of men and women in the venue, it was impossible to hear what was being said on stage.

Then, suddenly, a crisp shattering sound came from the stage. It seemed one of the two people on stage had smashed something on the ground. Immediately, the two bent down to search through the fragments, and shortly afterward, they picked up an object from it.

All this happened in just a few seconds. Before Huo Sining could think further, the gun-wielding man on stage fired another shot into the sky. In a flash, a loud boom was heard, and the chandelier at the top of the venue shattered directly from the bullet, scattering countless fragments from above.

”Watch out!”

Gu Xu urgently pulled Huo Sining into his embrace, using the backrest of the chair in front to shield them.

But the gunshot further agitated the crowd in the venue. The people who were already panicked due to the emcee being shot and the power outage, upon hearing the gunshot again, assumed the robber was about to start a massacre, deepening their fear, and naturally prompting even louder screams.

The venue was in utter chaos. At this time, Gu Xu couldn’t afford to keep his eyes on the stage’s situation; he could only hold Huo Sining tightly under him, fearing that Huo Sining might get injured by the robbers or the panic-stricken crowd in the chaos.

A minute later, the emergency lights in the venue were activated, bringing a semblance of light back to the previously dark hall. With the emergency lights on, shouts began to erupt, and sounds of footsteps echoed from the safe passage outside the door.

”To the criminals inside, put down your weapons; you are surrounded!”

Upon hearing this, Huo Sining and Gu Xu lifted their heads, but when they looked towards the stage, the two robbers who had been standing there were now nowhere to be seen.

Gu Xu’s face immediately fell. It had been less than three minutes from the first gunshot to the setting of the emergency lights. How exactly did those two robbers escape?

Outside, armed police violently forced open the emergency doors, the crowd inside the venue felt a sense of relief as if seeing family, each desperately wanting to leave the venue immediately.

But the robbers had vanished suddenly, and the police dared not rashly let these people leave, fearing the robbers were hiding among the attendees, escaping under the cover of chaos. So, after the doors were opened, the police set up a barricade once more. Until the investigation was clear, no one inside the venue could leave.

Half an hour later, the police found two wire stunt ropes tied to the window ledge on the side of the venue. The venue was on the fourth floor, with a back alley connecting to the surrounding residential area. Clearly, the two robbers had escaped through this window.

However, despite this speculation, the police dared not be careless. They conducted a thorough investigation and questioning of every participant’s identity, requiring each person in the venue to make a statement.
