Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 1413: Chapter 1398: What Exactly Is It

After a whole day of unease, there was no news from the special police. However, around ten o’clock at night, Huo Sining suddenly received a text message from Mr. Liang on her phone.

”Safely left S City. One day, I’ll tell you everything about your confusion. If you encounter any difficulties, remember to text me. Although I may not be a competent father, I’ll do whatever it takes for you.”

Seeing this message, Huo Sining couldn’t help but feel like crying.

This man, clearly in the midst of a dire situation himself, still insisted on putting on a brave front like a hero in front of her!

Once, Huo Sining harbored resentment because Liang Ruining abandoned her and Mrs. Huo. Later, after discovering Uncle Tong was her father and deducing that Mr. Liang faked his death, she felt very angry with him. However, at this moment, all those feelings of resentment and anger dissipated, leaving her with only anxiety and concern for Mr. Liang’s safety.

After staying in the ancient tomb for nearly half a month, thousands of artifacts were unearthed, and even the burial pit with chariots and horses was cleared. The remaining task was to completely restore the tomb, a task for the geologists and architectural experts, and no longer related to Huo Sining and the others.

Therefore, Su Qingqing and a few other students withdrew, leaving only Xie Daoyuan and a few other experts at the tomb. Even Ji Kun returned to the Imperial Capital.

Huo Sining also withdrew from the archaeological team. With concerns in her heart and no interest in remaining in the tomb, she returned directly to the city.

Upon returning to the city, she received a call from Zhou Shitao, who first inquired about the situation at the tomb and then talked about the Ming Dynasty tomb. Finally, Zhou Shitao suddenly remembered something and said, ”The identities of those tomb robbers have been verified. One of them is the Oil Rat we were looking for. This person might know Old Mr. Zhong’s whereabouts. I’m still trying to figure out a way to make him talk.”

Only then did Huo Sining remember that apart from being able to dig tunnels, this Oil Rat was also a person who knew clues about Zhong Fang.

This realization left Huo Sining feeling a pang of regret as she had completely forgotten about this while inside the tomb, her mind preoccupied with her father’s injury. Preoccupied with dealing with the Eastern Ocean people, she had left the Oil Rat behind.

Otherwise, she could have taken the Oil Rat out into Space, dealt with him slowly, and eventually found a way to make this cunning Oil Rat talk.

However, thinking about it now, it was meaningless. What Huo Sining was concerned about was how to handle these tomb robbers:

”I heard from the special police that among the captured tomb robbers, there are Eastern Ocean people?”

At the mention of this, Zhou Shitao was infuriated: ”Exactly, and this Oil Rat also confessed that there were actually eight people who went into the tomb with them, but only four were captured. The remaining four escaped, and the Oil Rat was hired by someone. The real boss is a Dongyang guy named Fujiwara Seiho. The other two captured Easterners are just lackeys under Fujiwara Seiho.”

”When those two Eastern Ocean people were caught, the Eastern Ocean Embassy even sent a letter demanding that the police send them back to Eastern Ocean for the Eastern Ocean Judiciary Bureau to handle. Isn’t this shameless? These Eastern Ocean people are becoming increasingly unscrupulous!”

Zhou Shitao grumbled for a while before remembering something and said to Huo Sining, ”Come to think of it, among the captured tomb robbers, there’s someone related to you as well.”

Huo Sining already knew Zhou Shitao might bring this up, but she couldn’t let him realize that she already knew the inside story, so she feigned confusion and asked, ”Related to me? Who?”

Zhou Shitao laughed, ”Well, the Imperial Capital Liang Family—you know, your father’s family. Isn’t Liang Pengzhi your grandfather? Among those tomb robbers who entered the tomb, one of them is the head of the Liang Family, your cheap uncle, right? Seems his name is Liang Ruicheng, and he was caught too.”

Huo Sining was shocked: ”What, he went too?”

Zhou Shitao nodded, ”I was just as surprised as you. Logically speaking, although the Liang Family isn’t the best in the Imperial Capital, they are still notable. With the Liang Family’s means, they shouldn’t need to take such risks as tomb robbing. How did this person end up on this path? It doesn’t make sense.”

Huo Sining’s heart skipped a beat, and she had a vague suspicion.

In fact, when she saw Liang Ruicheng mingling with Fujiwara Seiho in the underground tomb, she felt it was odd. However, she didn’t think much of it, just assuming he knew Fujiwara Seiho and was merely curious about entering the tomb.

But now, after listening to Zhou Shitao, Huo Sining felt something was off. Liang Ruicheng was an experienced figure in the antique circle. He shouldn’t have been so foolish. He must have known entering the tomb was dangerous and understood the risks. Yet he still went in with Fujiwara Seiho, which showed he had motives.

An image from the tomb suddenly flashed in Huo Sining’s mind, when Fujiwara Seiho demanded Mr. Liang hand over what he had. Liang Ruicheng was right behind Fujiwara Seiho, eyes shifting, his face clearly showing a greedy expression.

Could it be that Liang Ruicheng entered the tomb to find that thing?

Just what are these people looking for? What on earth was inside the bag Father had?

Huo Sining was filled with confusion and troubled thoughts. Back then, after she brought Father back to the villa, she was so busy treating his gunshot wound that she hadn’t thought to check the items in his backpack. By the time she came to her senses and ran back to the room from the kitchen, Liang Ruining had already taken the backpack and vanished without a trace.

”The Liang Family wouldn’t risk gilding lightly for a mere artifact. There must be something going on.”

Huo Sining said to Zhou Shitao.

Zhou Shitao agreed with Huo Sining’s suspicion: ”That’s right. We arranged for an emergency interrogation overnight. This Liang Ruicheng seemed like an idle dandy, but who would have guessed his lips were tightly sealed. He couldn’t be swayed either way, and after interrogating him for days, the police couldn’t get a single truth out of him.”

Huo Sining was intrigued and asked, ”What did he confess then?”

At this, Zhou Shitao chuckled in exasperation: ”This guy insisted they entered the tomb seeking the Elixir of Life. Isn’t that laughable? Such a ridiculous reason, and it’s a marvel he thought this up! Does he really think the police are three-year-olds, easily fooled with a random reason?”
