Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 1424: Chapter 1409: The Reason

”What’s going on? Why did your sister-in-law come here and make a scene?”

After tending to Bai Yishan’s wound, Huo Sining finally asked.

The other design girls in the office discreetly avoided the situation. Bai Yishan glanced at Su Qingqing and then explained, ”My brother’s business ran into trouble. A batch of smuggled overseas cargo got spotted by the patrol halfway, and he had no choice but to dump it all into the sea.”

Upon hearing this, Huo Sining frowned deeply. She knew how dangerous smuggling was. Last time, Ouyang Jun brought a few machine tools back from Dongyang, which triggered a tight monitoring setup by the East Ocean Police Bureau. If it weren’t for her Storage Space and Invisibility Skill, she would have been caught already.

Unexpectedly, Bai Yishan got involved in smuggling too, pushing Huo Sining’s impression of Bai Guoming to rock bottom. This man was too greedy. He had already made a lot of money, yet dared to take risks with smuggling. Any business problems were well-deserved!

”What kind of business is he into? It’s not drugs or firearms, is it? Those are definitely touch-and-die deals.”

Though Huo Sining wasn’t well-versed in smuggling, she often heard about it watching TV, which made her wary, prompting her to ask.

Bai Yishan lowered her voice and said, ”It’s not that extreme. My brother isn’t that bold. His business is in medicinal materials, but with a twist from what you might expect. You know, some things in the country are strictly forbidden to capture and slaughter, so those goods can only be sourced from abroad.”

”This batch of goods was brought in from Vietnam and Myanmar, stuff like snake gallbladders, bear paws, tiger bones—things that are pure wild over there but can’t see the light of day here.”

Upon hearing this, Su Qingqing’s face darkened. ”Wild medicinal trafficking? I’ve seen videos online of people extracting bear gallbladders live—it’s super cruel. How could your brother do this? It’s so unethical. Isn’t he afraid of karma catching up to him for committing such wrongs?”

Su Qingqing spoke bluntly, leaving Bai Yishan a bit embarrassed, but she’d long been disheartened by her brother and sister-in-law. Hearing Su Qingqing speak this way, she didn’t defend her brother, just gave a bitter smile and said:

”Greed in human nature leads to market demand, and naturally, people will go against moral boundaries for money, willing to embark on risky ventures due to the massive profits involved.”

Su Qingqing knew Bai Yishan was stating a fact, but thinking about people harming wild animals made her uncomfortable, prompting her to snort:

”Since your brother knew the risks in his smuggling business, why is he dragging you into it when things go wrong? Is your sister-in-law crazy? Instead of looking for a solution, she comes here to cause trouble?”

The mention of this made Bai Yishan’s expression turn grim. ”My sister-in-law didn’t come to help us solve the problem; she came to ask me for money.”

”When I returned from France, I went through many means just to get ten million in startup funds from my brother.”

”That ten million was rightfully mine. When my parents passed away, they split the inheritance equally, half to my brother and half to me, but my sister-in-law took control of it all.”

”My brother gave me ten million symbolically to shut me up, but my sister-in-law held a grudge all along. Now that my brother has business troubles, she finally has a reason to come after that ten million.”

Su Qingqing, always a justice fighter, became furious hearing Bai Yishan’s side:

”Your sister-in-law is awful. Why didn’t you take your brother to court back then? Letting them take advantage of you and now bullying you here, it’s too much! No way, I’m calling my brother. You’re his girlfriend, how can you just watch others bully you like this?!”

Seeing Su Qingqing actually take out her phone to call Su Jinyuan, Bai Yishan gave a bitter smile and quickly stopped her, ”Forget it, they’ve already left, it’s too late now. Don’t make things worse. If my brother’s smuggling activities get exposed, it’ll be a real hassle. My injuries aren’t serious, a few days to heal and I’ll be fine.”

Su Qingqing was frustrated that Bai Yishan refused to let Su Jinyuan know about the situation, and even still thought about her brother. She couldn’t help but stomp her foot in frustration, giving Bai Yishan a resentful look:

”Why are you such a pushover? You’re driving me crazy!”

Huo Sining stayed silent on the side, eventually speaking after a while, ”Your brother’s smuggling route goes through the Nan Sea, right? How did the patrol discover it? Where did he dump the goods in the sea?”

”In the Nan Sea, but it was Country F’s patrol, not from our Huaxia. If they hadn’t dumped the goods, and got caught red-handed by them, everyone on board could have ended up in jail.”

Su Qingqing scoffed from the side, ”What’s the big deal? Nan Sea is our country’s domain, right? What legal authority does Country F’s patrol have there? Overstepping like this, they’re overreaching too much!”

Bai Yishan smiled bitterly, ”Matters of the sea have too many disputes. The patrol from Country F has guns, and my brother’s ship was smuggling. Seeking help from our patrol stations would be a dead end, so they prioritized safety. The crew returned safely, but the goods remain in the sea. My brother is now looking for deep-sea recovery to get that batch back.”

”Deep-sea recovery?”

Upon hearing this from Bai Yishan, Huo Sining felt intrigued and puzzled, asking:

”Weren’t the goods dumped into the sea? Why recover them? Medicinal materials get wet in water, especially snake and bear gallbladders, they’re powder and dissolve. What’s the point of recovering them?”

Following Huo Sining’s words, it was clear she was an outsider. Bai Yishan laughed, ”They wouldn’t overlook such basics. Worst-case plans were made long ago. When boarding, the medicinal materials were packed in sealed containers, layers within layers, and encased in steel boxes, ensuring no seawater seeped in. Even if submerged for months, they’re fine.”

”But my brother said the goods are in a sea area several hundred meters deep, within a disputed zone, and the goods can’t see the light of day. So finding a deep-sea recovery company willing to risk it isn’t going to be easy.”
