Armed Train in the Apocalypse

Chapter 128: Chapter 118: Train Expansion

”January 6, Heavy Rain”

”When people want to escape, they tend to sleep longer, accompanied by nightmares, and the conductor’s nightmare is seafood soup.”

Putting down the journal, Su Huan thought for a moment and decided to step out of the carriage.

He walked straight to car number 3, as if he hadn’t seen Yu Yue busy in the kitchen.

The bright red shrimp sashimi on the table didn’t whet his appetite in the slightest; even a glance off the corner of his eye made him think of the slippery, greasy texture and the taste of wasabi.

It tasted as fresh as swallowing an octopus.

He hadn’t eaten coarse, chewy food for several days.

Like corn, zongzi, and the like...

But fresh food is really hard to store, and there aren’t many cold storages or refrigerators on the train, so it must be consumed quickly.

Car number 3 was getting more and more crowded with various furs and materials, almost filling the entire carriage, blocking the purifier, looking like a hunter’s cabin, full of exotic charm.

Unfortunately, Wan Xing didn’t look like a hunter, more like the indifferent second sister from a fairy tale who accentuates the princess’s purity.

’If she weren’t so young, witch would be more fitting.’

The woman was hiding under a wide coat, holding two beakers in her hands, containing colorful liquids without any precautions, like a worker blending paint buckets.

Through the blue liquid, one could see the delicate and slender chin, and the exaggeratedly large glasses on her face.

Black and white colors, the temples with a touch of silvery gray aluminum texture.

”Where did you get the glasses?”

Su Huan asked casually.

”Found them at the logistics center, a pair of high-tech glasses, capable of quickly assessing the proportions, volume, and length of objects I see, also recording data, shooting videos, and doing some translation work.”

While staring at the potion in her hand, Wan Xing responded.

After a moment, she casually poured the potion into a glass barrel beside her, where various colors mixed together, forming a strange, murky color.

Obviously, the potion-making had failed.

”It’s much harder to make potions than to gather materials, and failure in the early stages is normal; even Tier One Pharmacists only succeed thirty to forty percent of the time.”

Su Huan offered words of comfort.

The person had just absorbed a Pharmacist’s skill potion, not even reaching a Tier One profession, so failure was normal; success would be an unexpected gain.

A flicker of thought flashed in Wan Xing’s eyes, and then she opened the cabinet beside the workbench. Neatly aligned pink test tubes were placed on the rack, with soft rubber pads surrounding them, ensuring they wouldn’t break even with the train’s violent shaking.

”According to your formula, I crafted some restoration potions, but I’m not sure if they meet your expectations.”

A total of ten!

The feedback from the pan-energy perception told him they were indeed restoration potions, and highly active ones at that, with effects reaching over ninety percent of that of a premium restoration potion!

Su Huan looked at the neatly arranged potions, then at Wan Xing, with an inexplicable expression.

’Is this a godsend?!’

Picking up Yu Yue was surprising enough, but why were Master Eight’s freebies so impressive as well?

Could it be that his advantage wasn’t reincarnation, but a guaranteed SSR talent pool?

Initially, he didn’t have high expectations for the two.

The docile little aunt leaped from a maid role to an important sensory team member, already exceeding his expectations.

Considering her shy character, he assigned her as a sniper, thinking she’d just be filler.

But after deeper pressure, he found the little aunt’s character unexpectedly rebounded.

Sensing the opportunity, she decisively seized power, her gaze sharp, sniping enemies one by one, just like her daughter, all the demure shyness colored by later environment.

If he had known this, he would have directly pursued enhancing sound waves, large-scale elimination of small fry would be quite fitting in the later stages.

But now the skill path had been chosen, and there was no turning back.

He could only persist down the sniper route.

Wasting one talent might be acceptable, but what’s going on with Wan Xing?

Su Huan was a bit uncertain if the Pharmacist coincidentally matched her talents, or if this was merely the baseline of her abilities.

Wan Xing took out a potion and shook it, the pink liquid swirling in the test tube, ”But as you said, the success rate is very low, only about one-tenth, and from last night to now, I’ve only managed to make this one potion, all others failed.”

”If you could succeed all night, that would be miraculous; even the conductor would bow to you.”

Although Su Huan’s words were exaggerated, his tone was very calm.

”Have you stored the genetic potions for the trade well?”

Wan Xing pushed aside a piece of wolf skin, revealing a refrigerator modified and welded onto the wall.

The depth was very shallow, about ten centimeters, divided like a cabinet, with rows of genetic potions that needed refrigeration stored here, connected to the train’s power supply as well as a battery, thermometer, and camera.

This refrigerator was one of Professor Ma and the others’ achievements during this time.

It could monitor the number, status, and temperature of the potions at any time, even the stability of the power supply.

According to Professor Ma’s introduction, the refrigerator temperature can be controlled and adjusted from the back end, and the power supply can be switched. Moreover, this newly arranged wiring can form a closed loop without relying on the carriage’s original circuits, so even if the original circuit shorts, communication can be maintained with these new wires.

”It has been stored according to the potion storage requirements, with 35 basic potions, 20 skill potions, two sets of Tier One complementary potions totaling 6 doses, and one set of Tier Two potions with 5 doses.”

Wan Xing reported the numbers.

This was the main gain Su Huan received from selling the logistics center to Deep Blue Data, along with over a hundred somewhat insignificant pieces of evolutionary information.

Chances to pick up a deal like this are rare. In another two years, low-level evolutionary information will be released by big companies, but high-level information will be even more tightly locked, with only minimal trading between large factions.

Su Huan hesitated for a moment before reminding.

”Don’t rush to evolve using the genetic potion from the ’Pharmacist’. During this period, you can absorb more Pan-energy Crystal Stones to enhance your skill levels. Then use some basic potions, practice your skills frequently, and once you’re proficient, use the potions to advance without being stuck at the standard line.”

Wan Xing nodded thoughtfully.

Only then did Su Huan go upstairs, as some things still left him in a cloud of confusion.

Logically, large factions don’t lack Pan-energy Crystals and genetic potions, so why wasn’t there a mass production of high-level Evolvers in his previous life?

Is it because they didn’t want to?

That’s pure nonsense. There must be something restricting them.

Leading to an inability to create strong individuals purely through piling resources.

But in his previous life, he didn’t thrive enough to experience the feeling of being nurtured by resources.

This time around, although he’s accumulated quite a few Pan-energy Crystals, he must consider the overall evolutionary progress of the team.

Especially Xiaoba, his promotion is crucial to the upcoming new city plan.

The second level of carriage No. 3 has been transformed into Wan Xing’s material library, where materials extracted from this logistics center are stored.

Various large and small workbenches and cabinets divide the space, leaving no room to step anywhere.

It’s only been a little over a month since the apocalypse, yet the interior style of the entire train is becoming increasingly homely.

The roof of carriage No. 4 has already been modified into a second level.

Originally, the hydrogen train was a section shorter than green train carriages, and after removing the hydrogen part and restructuring, the space is much larger, with just enough height to retrofit a comfortable second-level carriage.

Mainly used as a resting space for train members.

After all, the dining car is a public area.

Though the train captain is quite handsome, no one particularly wants to see him every day.

After descending two steps and entering the second floor of carriage No. 4, you’re immediately met with some clothes being dried, most familiar among them being Yu Yue’s, like sunlight on a pastoral farm, carrying a traditionally conservative rural charm.

Through carriages No. 4 and No. 5 to reach the storage carriage No. 6.

This section was just completed yesterday, and since it doesn’t need to accommodate people, the ceiling height is quite low, requiring one to bend when entering.

Inside, it’s densely stacked with various foods, leaving almost no open space, and with no spiral staircase, only a round hole is cut in the floor for access, relying on jumping to go up and down floors.

For an armed train full of Evolvers, this is even more convenient than a ladder.

Pushing open the tail door of this carriage, slanting rain swept down, and Su Huan quickly shut the door.

Workers in raincoats were following crew members’ instructions to install the second layer walls on carriage No. 7.

Upon seeing Su Huan, Huang Sea and Wang He hurried over.

”Captain, Boss Su.”

Su Huan nodded, ”Continue, don’t affect the construction progress.”

The surrounding workers continued their work, using a crane to hoist up a piece of composite armor. Four or five workers carried it atop, placing it in the pre-cut position on the edge of the roof.

Inside the carriage, Xiaoba used his ability to fuse the metal edges together.

Su Huan’s surrounding energy formed a sealed shield, deflecting the acid rain, as he walked to the edge of the roof to have a look.

The new armor consists of three layers, with the outermost layer being the 15mm Tier One Light Armor developed by Yu Jing, named Qingsteel.

The second layer is soft glass that melts at 300°C, followed by another 10mm layer of Qingsteel.

The new armor is a remarkable 30mm thick, yet it’s 13% lighter than a 15mm steel plate, offering at least triple the defense and crucially protecting against armor-piercing shells.

Aside from the dining car, this new armor is currently used in building second levels.

Su Huan knocked on the sturdy armor, glancing at the blackened ground beneath his feet and the world obscured by the rain and mist in the distance.

A long-lost sense of security surged within him.

This was different from the sense of security derived from enhancing his strength. Previously, he frantically accelerated the pace of evolution due to the slow train upgrades, which didn’t offer him enough security.

Now that the train has been upgraded, he also needs to make some further improvements to his strength.

After watching for a while, Su Huan turned and continued towards the rear carriages.

The 8th carriage has just been transformed into a carriage farm, with the second story renovation yet to begin, and the 9th carriage is temporarily used by Yu Jing for storing miscellaneous items.

Su Huan arrived at the top of the 10th carriage, turned around, and leaped down.

Crawled in through the back door.

Professor Ma said he could come today to check on the progress of the information terminal.
