Armed Train in the Apocalypse

Chapter 108: Chapter 103: Repaying Rudeness in Kind!

Various Evolution Beasts emerged from the bushes and behind buildings.

They leaped over the three or four-meter-high iron gate, both furry and smooth-skinned, large and small, running and jumping, a bunch of glowing green eyes fixed on the convoy!

As if they’ve found the most delicious food.

The driver, Corporal, turned pale, suddenly spun the steering wheel, the car swerved sideways, knocking a terrifying clawed cat flying, and with no time to fire another shot, slammed on the accelerator.

In the passenger seat, Zhang Tie also reacted, slamming the dashboard heavily, ”Damn it, we’ve been set up!”

Saying this, he picked up the assault rifle in his hands and fired directly at an Evolution Beast outside the window.

The bullet pierced through the car window glass with no resistance, drilling three bloody holes in the Evolution Beast’s forehead.

The ”tat-tat-tat” of gunfire sounded rhythmically.

Even in such a bumpy vehicle, Zhang Tie never missed a shot.

Once the first shot veered off, the next two quickly corrected it.

”There’s definitely something wrong with that bone!”

Zhang Tie made sure to comment in between.

Li Tao adjusted his glasses, ”Regardless of what’s contaminated it, that bone must be brought back. The Servant Soldiers at the back will buy us some time, signaling the helicopter for reinforcements to meet us.”

Upon hearing this, Zhang Min visibly relaxed.

Yet, she still dared not make a sound. In the Mojiang Convoy, women were likely to be thrown out as bait for the Evolution Beasts.

Even others would have to fend for themselves.

Behind them, several infantry transport vehicles abruptly skidded to a halt, forming a steel trench.

Soldiers burst out of the doors and began to intercept the beast herd.

The firepower wove a net, momentarily suppressing the herd of Evolution Beasts, but Tier One Evolution Beasts hidden within charged from all directions, and the defense line began to falter and waver.

As fear and blood splattered simultaneously.

The defense line completely collapsed.

They only managed to buy forty to fifty seconds at most.

But it was enough for the off-road vehicle in the front to escape danger.

...

”How much Evolution Beast Inducer do we have left?”

”Two drops.”

”Make sure it’s sealed and preserved properly.”

”By the way, how did you know they were going to set us up?”

Yu Jing asked curiously.

Su Huan glanced at her oddly, ”I’m not a parasite in their stomachs, how would I know, but I wasn’t too kind-hearted myself.”

Everyone simultaneously twitched their faces.

Su Huan’s directness and openness always caught them off guard.

Lao San looked baffled, have we been through so much?

”When did you drug them?”

Yu Jing pinched her chin, ”It was when he said ’teammate,’ do you remember that amusing nickname for the Evolution Beast Inducer?”

”Every damn teammate was carrying one?”

Xiaoba suddenly realized.

”Yes, and when has Su Huan ever called us teammates?”

He Jie looked at Su Huan and then at Yu Jing, feeling a toothache from dealing with this cunning bunch.

You’d never know when they’d set you up.

”So what’s our situation?”

Lao San asked again.

”That should be a question for Captain He.” Su Huan threw the topic at him.

He Jie looked at the zombie herd emerging from the city, his face darkened, ”Zombie Inducer, it was developed a while ago, can quickly attract zombies from a kilometer radius to gather, used for rapid zombie clearance, but looking at this scale, there seems to have been another breakthrough, I’m not sure about the actual attraction range.”

Su Huan remained unfazed.

The first phase of the armored train was complete, ordinary zombie tides were no longer a threat.

Only a horde composed entirely of Tier One Zombies could possibly deter an over eight-thousand-ton steel dragon.

”Lao San, get ready for some shooting practice, call that defender named Zhang Kai from the crew as well, Yu Jing, bring me the genetic agents.”

Su Huan instructed.

Lao San immediately went to summon the people, shooting out of the car window.

More and more zombies gathered around, crashing into the train one after another; with this density, there was no worry about missing a shot

However, the few of them were really poor marksmen, making He Jie frown and mock, ”Giving them a few guns is like handing them a few sticks for lighting fires.”

Su Huan took the genetic agent and glanced at him, ”If you don’t like it, you could always go up and give some pointers.”

He Jie sneered, ”Making me work even before I join?”

Su Huan did not respond, but that’s exactly what he intended.

There’s a fundamental difference between professionally trained soldiers and ordinary gun enthusiasts.

Especially someone as elite as He Jie.

Though he knew a bit about shooting, his skills were as rough as they come, so much so that he never instructed Yu Yue and the others on shooting details, only mentioning some basic foundations.

Even if he wanted to explain more, he couldn’t.

He planned to train Lao San and the others toward firearm-based professions, so he simply urged them to practice more.

After all, being Defenders, with the presence of ”battle factors,” their muscles would grasp the mysteries of combat much faster than their brains would.

The only downside was the waste of ammunition.

But ammo was the last thing he lacked now.

Su Huan brought the gene serum in front of Wan Xing, ”Can you see the difference?”

The sparkle in Wan Xing’s eyes vanished in an instant, as if vitality drained from her all at once, and she let out a puzzled ”hmm.”

”Dense light spots, similar to pan-energy spots, but there’s a difference. They seem to be fighting...no, they’re moving rhythmically, in a very beautiful way.”

”Remember this feeling; this is a normal skill serum.”

After a pause, Su Huan swapped for another reagent, ”In the Defender domain, Tier One ’Precision Shooter’ has two sub-skills in total, so there are two skill serums in here. One is ’Sniper Specialization,’ and the other is ’Ballistics Calculation,’ along with a gene fusion serum to stimulate the genes to reach an advanced state.”

Yu Jing suddenly interjected, ”Can skills from the Defender domain be used in other domains?”

”Of course they can. Skills across different domains are usable as long as they don’t conflict. For instance, Defenders have a ’Tactile Amplification’ and a ’Pain Desensitization.’ If these two abilities awaken at the same time, haha...”

As Su Huan spoke, he couldn’t help but chuckle.

In the past life, an idiot thought he could simultaneously possess acute tactile senses and be immune to pain, but he ended up growing two layers of skin. The outer one was insensitive, while the inner one was highly sensitive to pain.

As a result, he couldn’t feel anything. If accidentally attacked, or even just stepped on the toe, the intense pain would make him cry like a baby!

This is an example of evolution going wrong.

Of course, he was considered lucky; many experienced genetic collapse and directly mutated into zombies.

”So we just need to ensure that the abilities don’t contradict?” Yu Jing frowned, ”But how can we ensure that evolved abilities won’t conflict?”

Su Huan’s expression turned odd, ”The abilities you naturally evolve won’t conflict, just like your left brain wouldn’t want to evolve a fist to punch your right brain.”

”Just don’t randomly use skill serums, and there’s no benefit in using cross-domain skills. Skills you don’t need not only take up space but also consume your evolutionary potential, just like that Firepower Hand who evolved enhanced smell.”

”What truly distinguishes domains is your primary skill, like my Pan-energy Transformation, and your Pan-energy Erosion, which are unique traits to each domain...”

’But not necessarily.’

At this point, Su Huan paused, clearly having recalled something.

In his past life, he evolved the Defender’s ”battle factor.” Before he could revel in becoming a dual-profession powerhouse, the subsequent troubles ensued.

He’s unsure if he’ll successfully evolve the Defender’s core skill in this life.

The deafening roar of an explosion interrupted Su Huan’s train of thought.

Turns out, it was a Butcher swinging a utility pole and hitting the moving train, but the train didn’t even sway, and the pole was sent flying.

The Butcher looked at its severed hands, a hint of human-like bewilderment on its bloated face.

Furious, it clamped its arms together, picked up a nearby Skull Smasher, and charged toward the train.

The Skull Smasher, now in its grasp, howled in confusion, unsure whether to attack the train or its captor first.

The rampaging train shredded both the Skull Smasher and the Butcher like a meat grinder, wearing them down until their bodies completely disintegrated, collapsing into heaps.

Su Huan returned to his senses and handed the skill serum representing ”Sniper Specialization” to Yu Yue.

”Head back to your room and absorb this first.”

Yu Yue had watched the entire transaction, and understood how precious this serum was.

She’d thought that maybe it was meant for her, but when Su Huan actually gave it to her, she found herself tangled in doubt.

Two little Yu Yues started to bicker in her mind.

”No! It’s just a small benefit. Would you abandon your dignity for this?”

”Maybe you’re overthinking it? The train conductor is just considering the team.”

”If you take this now, how can you resist when he tries to bully you again in the future?”

”...But, but it was never an option to refuse.”

”Tsk, you’re despicable! You clearly want to give in to him!”

”N-no, it’s him who’s insisting...”

Seeing Su Huan frown, Yu Jing realized her mother was once again trapped in indecision, so she casually took the serum and pulled the woman’s arm towards the carriage interior.

”You guys carry on, I’ll make sure she absorbs this.”

Su Huan withdrew his gaze and handed the remaining two serums to Wan Xing, ”It’s still early for you to absorb the next one, so hold onto these for now.”

”Alright.”

Wan Xing took the serums and walked toward Carriage No. 3.

Aside from eating and sleeping, she spent most of her time with corpses.

Most people would be stifled by now, but she seemed quite at ease.

”Where are we heading next?”

He Jie spoke with a hint of uncertainty.

He feared Su Huan might abandon his wife and daughter, driving off without them.

Su Huan looked toward the endless tide of zombies outside the window and calmly said, ”Where do you think the Steel Council would least want us to show up now?”

”Show up where, the headquarters?” He Jie pondered for a moment.

Suddenly, a spark of insight lit up his mind, and he blurted out, ”New City!”
