Armed Train in the Apocalypse

Chapter 116: Chapter 108: Tier Two Zombie

”At most there were five people, and by the time we arrived at the logistics center to set up camp, only four were left. Then inexplicably one of them mutated, which led to this tragedy...”

Listening to Professor Ma’s account, Su Huan and the others finally understood what had happened at the logistics center.

The situation wasn’t complicated; an Evolver in the convoy mutated, causing a large-scale outbreak. By coincidence, Professor Ma and his students were on duty at the digital center, managing to hide and barely survive on the stored food until now.

Su Huan felt regretful in his heart.

More than eight hundred highly skilled individuals, yet only the dozen or so before him remained.

However, to his delight, Professor Ma turned out to be an expert in electronics, which seemed like a pillow sent to a drowsy head.

”Planting willows unintentionally creates shade.”

”What kind of expert am I, I can’t even fix a communications device now...”

After talking for a while and realizing these people weren’t evil, Professor Ma regained some of his sociability and even joked about himself.

”But my students are really excellent. If you take them out, they’d be more useful than me.”

”I’ll take the people out, but not right now,” Su Huan said calmly.

Professor Ma knew he had more to say, so he braced himself and looked at him.

”We came to the logistics center to search for high-tech products like exoskeletons and robots. Only after we get these things will we leave.”

Su Huan told the truth.

Professor Ma seemed to understand, ”I see, exoskeleton technology is quite mature now, but limited by energy and materials, civilian ones are modular with specific designs. Thinking about it, indeed, only the logistics center would be equipped with a large amount of exoskeletons.”

”Where is the top-notch stuff then?”

”The top-tier ones should be with the troops. I heard there are fully enclosed exoskeletons now, but given the current situation, alas...”

Listening to Professor Ma’s narrative, Su Huan seemed to ponder but didn’t focus on it. In his previous life, he had heard of exoskeletons too, though they mainly provided support on battlefields and weren’t particularly special.

Evolution is the main theme of this world.

”Are those exoskeletons in that equipment port you mentioned?”

”Yes, along with a lot of drones and devices, but you have to go deep from the hall you just passed, to the left side from where you came in, almost across the entire hall.”

Xiaozhao added from the side, his voice clear, the same male voice from the previous broadcast.

Su Huan paid him extra attention. If not for the bad timing, he wanted to discuss song choices with him. Those couple of lines just now, not to mention zombies, even he felt moved.

”You know the layout inside here well?”

”I’ve been watching the surveillance feed all this time. I know everything within its coverage.”

Su Huan nodded, ”Then you come with us. Yu Jing, you and Zhang Kai stay here, everyone else get ready to move out with me.”

Just then, a sharp voice came from the corner of the wall, ”There are over eight hundred zombies in there, coupled with the logistics center’s original population and those gathered, over a thousand in total. Not running away now but going inside, are you out of your mind!”

Everyone was startled and followed the sound to see an extremely skinny young man curled up in the corner, greasy curly hair tied at the back, face buried in his knees, hiding his expression.

Professor Ma’s face changed, he quickly smiled and said, ”The kid’s been traumatized, don’t hold it against him. Li Hong, stay if you can, leave if you can’t, stop making snide remarks about everyone. Who taught you such bad habits? Apologize now!”

Seeing someone finally willing to rescue them, students saw a way out, but then this kid started mocking the rescuers.

Wasn’t this cutting off everyone’s path to survival?

The usually gentle Professor Ma was so furious he almost pointed at his nose to scold him for his lack of manners.

Around him, the students glared angrily at the person.

He Jie, however, was circling around Li Hong with interest.

Silently declaring him doomed.

Predicting where Su Huan would eliminate him.

The three people behind Lao San were sneering as well, ready to show this kid who didn’t know the immensity of heaven and earth some of their skills if Su Huan spoke.

After another look, Su Huan lost interest too. Without any energy fluctuations, not an Evolver.

Just a young man with a broken mindset, he’d seen plenty like this in his previous life.

Not worth wasting time on.

”Let’s go.”

With Xiaozhao, the group went back down the corridor, retracing their steps, heading towards the storage area.

Inside the digital center, everyone’s gaze instinctively lingered on the beautiful woman left behind.

Professor Ma probed, ”If there’s anything you need our assistance with, just say the word.”

After scanning the surveillance screens for a moment, Yu Jing asked, ”Can you locate those four mutated Evolver zombies?”

Professor Ma quickly switched the surveillance screens, ”No problem, most of the time they are... wait, there seem to be only two?”

Everyone felt a chill down their spine, staring intensely at the screens.

”Found one, it ran outside.”

”Where’s the other one?”

”It seems... it’s bumped into something.”

....

Su Huan anticipated some difficulties on this trip, but didn’t expect to be this unlucky.

Returning to the storage warehouse, they encountered no obstacles.

The zombies drawn away hadn’t come back, but when they jumped onto a platform, an inexplicable feeling made Su Huan glance down, locking eyes with a Slaughterer two meters tall, whose left hand was a bone whip and right hand a bone blade.

This Slaughterer was taller than the one Gao Zhe mutated into, its head tucked into its chest, black corpse armor extending from its abdomen to its shoulders like a general’s shoulder armor.

Standing there, it exuded an aura of fierce and evil energy, looking like a powerful demon.

As these thoughts flashed through Su Huan’s mind, the Slaughterer slightly bent its knees.

The next moment, the concrete ground beneath it shattered instantly.

Its entire body shot up like a cannonball, heading straight towards the six-meter-high platform.

”Corpse armor?!”

”Why are there Tier Two Zombies in this damned place!”

He Jie cursed violently while lifting the heavy machine gun in his hand, aiming forward.

”Bang—Boom!”

A bone whip wrapped around the railing around the platform, and a Slaughterer as robust as a mech jumped up.

With Su Huan as the center, violent currents spread along the metal plates underfoot like a spider web, entangling it the moment it landed, causing the Slaughterer’s body to pause noticeably.

Without waiting for Su Huan to remind him, He Jie gritted his teeth and pulled the trigger.

The 12.7mm ammo belt was consumed frantically, entering the machine gun from around his neck, casings clattering and falling off the platform, yet the heavy machine gun in the man’s hands didn’t tremble.

Every bullet hit the Slaughterer’s body without waste.

Amidst the cold blue currents, the Slaughterer forcibly twisted its body, raising its bone blade protectively over its chest, while the other hand lashed its bone whip towards Su Huan.

A sharp sound of breaking air rang out.

Su Huan’s gaze sharpened.
