Armed Train in the Apocalypse

Chapter 113: Chapter 106: Life-Skills Sniper

Su Huan looked her up and down. Except for the moment she fired, the little cook always carried a determination like ”live every day to the fullest.”

What is this supposed to be?

A lifestyle sniper?

One wonders if the zombies she sniped knew the sniper was such a diligent little cook, would they die a bit more cheerfully.

Su Huan pondered for a moment, ”You’re the sniper, you should choose the battlefield yourself, whether it’s taking out key targets or supporting your teammates, that decision is yours alone.”

Yu Yue was a bit nervous, ”Am I to act alone?”

Su Huan’s gaze swept over everyone.

Yu Jing, definitely not; the mother and daughter lack close combat capability, if danger arises, they’re doomed to whitewash sacrifice.

Lao San and his three are a firepower group, they can’t be split.

Zhang Kai is considered a rookie, not trustworthy.

As for He Jie... he’s currently just a bomb with less threat, better kept by my side, others can’t control him.

So that only leaves Liang Kuan.

Moreover, he is a melee fighter, perfectly complementing Yu Yue.

In the end, Su Huan settled on Liang Kuan, ”Your mission this time is to protect Yu Yue.”

The latter agreed without hesitation.

”Get Lu Xiao and Jiang Rong ready to go!”

...

Until they exited the carriage, Su Huan was pondering a question.

Pairing a sniper with a warrior was reasonable.

But—

I’ve gone to great lengths, gathered supplies, talents, and built a stable logistics team, only to go from being the indispensable core to a soldier charging with a gun?

Even in my past life as a follower, I didn’t need to charge into battle myself.

This life, clearly with every advantage, why does it feel more and more wrong?

Not only recharging but also charging?

Lao San interrupted Su Huan’s thoughts with an SUV needing a charge.

”Captain, this electric car only has ten percent battery left.”

”Damn it!”

Su Huan’s expression darkened as he sat in the passenger seat, charging the car. The battery gauge rapidly increased, with a lively animation flickering.

Lao San noticed his not-too-pleasant mood and dared not say a word.

Five vehicles headed toward the logistics center.

Since the distance was short, they soon approached the logistics center.

The entrance barricades consisted of three large trucks stacked in a cross, with a deformed, corroded corpse wearing a logistics center uniform stuck in a cab’s dent.

Several corpses were piled on the ground, but few zombies were seen along the way.

In the vehicle, Su Huan frowned and spoke to the air, ”Yu Yue, transmit my upcoming words to everyone.”

Yu Yue’s soft voice instantly came through his ear, ”Okay.”

”The zombie count is odd; someone must’ve beaten us to it. Three buildings are visible at the main entrance; Lu Xiao takes the left, Jiang Rong the right. Main goal is clearing roaming zombies, I’ll signal when to retreat.”

After a moment’s wait, Lu Xiao and Jiang Rong’s voices appeared in Su Huan’s ear.

Indeed, Yu Yue’s ability was truly convenient.

The group gathered at the logistics center entrance, as two fire trucks began pulling the stacked container trucks away, revealing a gap wide enough for one person to pass through.

The group filed in one by one.

He Jie stared at Su Huan, spreading his arms exaggeratedly, his bold eyes almost spelling ”where’s the gun?”

It’s one thing to prevent me in the cabin, but now on the battlefield, you still won’t give me a gun?

Su Huan curled his lip, snapped his fingers, ”Lao San, bring the stuff over.”

Lao San and his team, who got off the vehicle, carried a large item from the fire truck, leaving He Jie momentarily frozen.

In disbelief, he asked, ”Prepared for me?”

Su Huan kicked an anti-aircraft gun on the ground, ”Weighing forty-one kilograms, who else but you would lug this stuff to the battlefield?”

The Lumberjack 12.7-2 type, found in an armory, with its shooting sound resembling a woodpecker in the forest, derived its name because of that, separate from the ”Iron” named equipment series.

The gun’s tripod opened like a crouching steel beast, with a 1.8-meter-long barrel gleaming with a cold blue-black sheen.

”Don’t kick it, you’ll damage it!”

He Jie quickly picked it up with one hand, folded the tripod, cradling it in his arms.

Receiving the ammunition belt from Lao San, he quickly fed it, draping a hundred-round 12.7 belt around his neck.

Although still wearing that deep green short sleeve, the moment he touched the gun, his entire aura changed, like those Evolution Beasts baring bloody maws, eyes searching for prey.

Su Huan smirked, a firepower hand without a gun is just a toothless tiger.

Since deciding to bring him along, naturally one wouldn’t do something stupid like shackling oneself.

With the electromagnetic sniper rifle slung on his back, Su Huan waved his hand, ”Let’s go, inside.”

Lao San, carrying the light machine gun, quickly followed, only to be kicked on the back by He Jie, who was behind him. Turning angrily, Lao San faced him saying overbearingly, ”Rookie, get to the back, today I’ll show you what a Firepower Hand really means!”

...

The entire digital command center was in dim light, with a faint glow shivering in the front, showing Su Huan’s group splitting at the entrance.

A somewhat hoarse male voice exclaimed with joy, ”Teacher, someone came, we’re saved.”

”So what if someone came, they’re not the army; entering means a feeding end for the zombies,” a sharp voice retorted, laced with deep negativity.

”They have guns, they’ve got guns!”

”We have them too, but are you willing to go out?”

”Wang Hao, if you’ve the energy to mock others, save it so you can run fast when chased by zombies.”

Another voice remarked mockingly.

The first speaker ignored the squabbling and quickly ran to the backroom, gagged by a foul odor upon opening the door.

Yet quickly adapting, he stepped inside.

In the center stood an old man in a checkered shirt, graying at temples, with a headlamp focused on soldering a circuit board.

Two female students were assisting him.

Hearing the door, the old man muttered, ”By rights, we should’ve restored surveillance; this communication device should work as well, where is the problem? Xiaozhao, you come over and see if I’m getting senile, there clearly isn’t any issue.”

Xiaozhao wore a complex expression; although not the top electronics expert, the teacher was a vice professor involved in national projects and guiding PhDs. If he couldn’t spot an issue, how could a student do so?

Evidently, recent events placed immense pressure on the teacher.

Hastily, he said, ”Teacher, outsiders have arrived, and they’re heavily armed.”

His words sparked commotion, filling the room with chatter.

It turned out there were another five or six people sitting in the surrounding darkness, bringing the digital command center’s total to over ten, counting the four outside.

”Is the military here to save us?”

”I knew we wouldn’t be abandoned!”

”But we didn’t send out a signal, how could someone know we’re here?”

”...”

The old man didn’t ask why; he rose directly, heading outside.

Xiaozhao and others immediately followed.

Adjusting the monitoring system, the old man quickly located Su Huan and his team’s position.

”Yes, it’s them.”

Changing between different camera angles, observing keenly for a moment, he mused, ”Seems like a mix of military and survivors...”

”But aren’t their numbers quite small...”

Even adding up everyone on Su Huan’s side, there’d only be a dozen or so people.

Considering the logistics center’s current state, hope faded once more in the group.

”But——” Xiaozhao hastily said.

”Show them the way!”

The old man wiped his greasy glasses, speaking with determination.
