Armed Train in the Apocalypse

Chapter 103: Chapter 99: The Survivors_2

If she hadn’t sensed no hostility, Su Huan would have already been plotting how to take her out.

As Su Huan remained silent, the atmosphere gradually became bizarre and stagnant.

He Jie watched the commotion with interest, a bit curious about the relationship between these people and Su Huan.

”Wait a moment...”

Everyone looked towards the sound, unexpectedly it was the shy Yu Yue who broke the argument, pointing out of the window with her finger.

”The rain seems to have stopped.”

...

The heavy rain that lasted for three days finally stopped, and all the survivors breathed a sigh of relief.

Most ordinary people do not have the ability to survive long under acid rain.

The original survivors of the Acid Rain Zone were fine; they had more or less developed ways to deal with the rain. But this heavy rain was not so kind to the survivors who escaped from the high-temperature zone.

Many people got eroded by acid rain because they didn’t avoid it in time, resulting in large red patches and ulcers on their skin.

Like flayed evil spirits crawling out of hell.

Their painful groaning and coughing, just like the acid rain that lasted for three days, were unbearable.

Zhang Min curled up in the corner of the sofa, hugging her knees. The sticky feeling and stench beneath her made her wish she could run out and let the corrosive acid rain wash over her, even if the murky rainwater would be cleaner than her current self.

But she couldn’t do that now.

At least not before killing the man who grinned as he kicked her off the train; she couldn’t die, and she had to carefully maintain her body.

This was her capital to survive.

Not some ephemeral things like being a streamer or pride.

Unfortunately, she didn’t make the right decision at the right time.

If she could go back to that particular carriage, she wouldn’t hesitate, willing to sacrifice everything for a spot on the train, but—

”Where’s that bitch Zhang Min, where the hell did she go?”

”What’s wrong?”

”Brother Wang wants her to dance, tells her to clean up and come over quickly. If she ruins Brother Wang’s mood, she might as well forget about staying in the convoy.”

”I’ll go get her right away.”

Footsteps approached from outside the door, and a hoarse voice called to her, ”Minmin, Brother Wang is calling you.”

Zhang Min suppressed the malice in her eyes and looked up at the woman in front of her.

Her hair was withered, lips chapped, clearly hadn’t had a drink in days.

The convoy had just escaped the high-temperature zone with little purified water, then encountered acid rain, leaving no chance to gather clean rainwater, so there was no way they’d share it with a woman who was past her prime.

Though the woman was only twenty-six, compared to Zhang Min’s eighteen, she was already considered withered.

For the leaders of the armed train and Mojiang Mutual Aid Convoy, if they wanted, young women were even cheaper resources than pure water and food.

”Okay, I’ll be right there.”

Zhang Min replied indifferently, standing up.

Her originally fair and fresh body was now covered with bruises and red marks of all sizes.

Fortunately, relying on her youth and talent to please, she was still alive, even though she looked a bit haggard.

This was already a situation unattainable for ordinary people.

But it was still not enough, far from enough to achieve her goal of killing that man!

Zhang Min took out a wipe and fiercely jabbed it into her wounds, frowning, biting her lips until they went white, and only after cleaning all the filth did she put on a simple dress and walked toward the hall.

The convoy was lucky; they had just escaped and made contact with a major power.

Unfortunately, the other side maintained a cold attitude, and even though Wang fawned over their contacts repeatedly, they wouldn’t give him a straight answer.

But his efforts were not entirely in vain.

At least they got a safe resting place and a small amount of supplies, and the other side took two from the dozen Evolvers in the convoy.

Even Wang Fei, the leader of the convoy, was not selected.

The surrounding zombies had been cleared by the major power, so they settled in a building like a sales office, thousands of people crammed into a dozen floors.

Every day consuming without working, the convoy’s stored supplies were nearly exhausted.

But no one dared to sneak out; previously someone tried running out at night, and their body was dragged back the next day, along with a stern warning to Wang Fei.

Infuriated, Wang Fei had a violent outburst, ending up with the death of three women that day.

However, the other side’s attitude seemed to loosen a bit in recent days.

When she reached the hall, a dozen women were already lined up, performing provocative dances.

Before she could get there, a man as strong as a gorilla came over, yanking at her neckline while cursing, tearing her dress to pieces in a few moves.

Zhang Min showed no surprise, with a pure smile on her face, ”Brother Wang, you called me.”

Wang Fei blew out a cloud of smoke, squinting and roughly pressing on her, murmuring, ”Serve them well. If they’re dissatisfied, I’ll finish you off tonight.”

After saying this, he slapped her on the butt and pushed her forward.

Zhang Min laughed coquettishly, gazing towards the sofa in the hall.

A man in a suit sat there, wearing silver-framed glasses, holding a briefcase as if he were a pre-apocalypse lawyer, both refined and indifferent.

The skin exposed was smooth and tidy, showing no trace of high temperatures or acid rain, and even his hair was impeccably combed back.

Behind him stood four armed soldiers with their guns, scanning each face like eagles.

Only Wang Fei and the convoy’s second in command had seats, the rest, even Evolvers, stood aside.

Despite wearing new clothes, they couldn’t conceal their refugee-like appearance.

Standing together, they didn’t seem like part of the same layer.

As the music played, Zhang Min began her dance. Although she was a streamer, she was a legitimately trained dancer, not just someone who could twist her body but genuinely skilled.

The man in the main seat watched the bruises on Zhang Min’s body, his face showing no emotion, neither compassion nor desire, not even scorn, just as if looking at a wisp of air.

He coldly stated, ”Captain Wang, next time don’t waste time on such things. I’m here mainly to ask you two favors.”

Wang Fei instantly became energized, ”There’s no need to talk about favors; just give the order, and I’ll get it done immediately!”

”You came out from the high-temperature zone; did you pass by the Mojiang Bridge?”

Wang Fei was momentarily stunned but quickly nodded, ”We are the Mojiang Mutual Aid Convoy, of course, we passed Mojiang Bridge. That bridge is terrifying, crawling with Evolution Beasts...”

The man’s eyes lit up slightly, ”Did you see a train?”

”A train...” Wang Fei looked around, with a thoughtful expression.

He indeed saw trains, ones parked by the roadside, overturned, even stuck in buildings; long ones, short ones, oil burning, electric ones, he had seen them all.

But the other party, being such a major power, clearly wasn’t asking idle questions, yet he couldn’t grasp the deeper meaning.

The man in glasses already had a trace of disappointment in his eyes.

This made Wang Fei even more anxious.

As Zhang Min danced, her mind caught the word ”train,” and a light flashed through her brain.

Her thigh suspended in the air, she spoke in a clear and steady voice from her soft lips, ”An armed train?”

Hearing someone interrupt, Wang Fei immediately showed an angry countenance, his viciousness unhidden.

Yet the man in glasses brightened up, leaning slightly forward, earnestly looking at the woman who was merely a backdrop to their talk, ”Do you know about the armed train’s origin?”

Before speaking, Zhang Min knew that if she guessed wrong, it wouldn’t end well.

But thinking that staying here would ultimately lead to a fate like those women who died at Wang Fei’s hands, with no hope of ever avenging, she’d rather take a gamble.

Could the situation get any worse than it already was?

If not ruthless, how could one survive in this world?

This was the first lesson taught by the train conductor, though the tuition was steeply paid.

Under Wang Fei’s dark gaze, Zhang Min lowered her thigh. Though entirely nude, she showed no hint of shyness, as if it were an interview, mimicking that familiar smiling face from memory, with a slight upward curl of her lips.

”If you’re referring to a train made of over forty old carriages heading north, then I think I might know.”
