Urban Martial Saint

”Take a close look at the growth of those plants. Five meters away from the courtyard wall, all of them are planted with this kind of grass. Five meters, anyone who wants to climb over the courtyard wall into Wan Yan Manor will inevitably encounter these grasses. This is a natural barrier.” The older man said, ”The Wanyan Family, such a big family, how could the defense inside be simple?”

”Isn’t this amazing? Do these grasses actually cause you to faint on contact? Is that for real?” The younger man asked curiously.

The older man said, ”Nonsense, of course it’s true. I’ve personally seen several brazen thieves who dared to come to the Wanyan Family to make a fortune, only to end up lying on that Dream-Returning Herb, directly losing their lives.”

”De...dead?” The young man’s eyes widened as he said, ”Didn’t you say it just makes you faint? How did it...how did it result in death then?”

”If it only caused fainting, it wouldn’t be of much use. Let me tell you, the Dream-Returning Herb is only the first mechanism, the real danger lies beneath it.” The older man, having drunk too much, spoke without restraint, continuing to reveal the secrets of the Wanyan Family: ”Although not many people know about Dream-Returning Herb, there are definitely some who do. People who recognize this grass might touch it through their clothes, thus avoiding its toxicity. But, think about it, would the Wanyan Family’s defense be that simple?”

”That’s right!” The young man nodded quickly and asked, ”So, what other mechanisms are there?”

”The real mechanism is underneath the layer of soil below the Dream-Returning Herb.” The older man said, ”There are mechanisms beneath the soil layer. As long as the soil layer is subjected to a certain amount of pressure, those mechanisms will be triggered. At that time, near the heavily-pressured soil layer, some potent poison liquid will be sprayed out. This potent poison liquid is truly deadly. Not to mention wearing clothes, even if you wore an iron suit, it could corrode right through you.”

”Ah?” The young man widened his eyes, completely terrified.

”Kid, if I hadn’t stopped you today, you’d have definitely stepped on it!” The older man patted the young man on the shoulder, saying, ”If you had stepped on it, you’d probably be a skeleton by now. I’ve personally seen some thieves fall on it, being corroded alive by the potent poison liquid until only a pile of bones remained. It was tragic!”

The young man trembled all over with fear, gasping continuously as if still startled by the thing he just heard.

Seeing him like this, the older man grew more satisfied and said, ”I tell you, inside Wan Yan Manor, there are lots of mechanisms. In the future, you better not run around in there. If anything happens, even I won’t be able to protect you.”

”Ah, yes...yes...” The young man shivered and lowered his voice, saying, ”By the way, uncle, when I was coming over, I saw that last building at the back, why does it look so strange? Such a big building, with only one door to enter, no windows, and so many people guarding it, what exactly is going on?”

Hearing this, Ye Qing suddenly became intrigued, as he also wanted to know about this matter, unexpectedly the young man asked it so cooperatively.

”I don’t know about that either.” The older man shrugged and said, ”That building has been there since I can remember, and no one knows what’s inside. However, the Wanyan Family has guarded it strictly through all generations, so I guess there might be something precious inside.”

Ye Qing was astonished. This older man worked for the Wanyan Family for such a long time, yet even he didn’t know what was inside that building, making it even more mysterious. What exactly is hidden in there, and why is it so secretive? Moreover, why are the Wanyan Family members guarding it so fiercely?

”Uncle, even you don’t know?” The young man’s eyes widened as he said, ”What kind of things could be hidden inside to be this mysterious?”

”Who knows!” The older man shrugged and said, ”Not only me, but even some important Wanyan Family members don’t know what is hidden in that building. As I know, the only ones who can enter that building are Prince Wan Yan, the three Elders of the Wanyan Family, and Prince Wan Yan’s son, Wan Yan Ming. Others are not qualified to enter, and neither Prince Wan Yan nor the three Elders have ever discussed the situation inside that building publicly, so no one knows what exactly is hidden inside.”

Ye Qing was once again amazed, as this building became increasingly mysterious, and his interest in the building also grew.

”So, it seems the building must be hiding something particularly valuable, right.” The young man scratched his head and said, ”But, doesn’t Prince Wan Yan fear someone might force their way into the building?”

”Ha, force their way in?” The older man curled his lips and said, ”Let’s not talk about the guards at the entrance to that building, but just the nearby separate courtyards are home to the three strongest Elders of the Wanyan Family. If there’s the slightest movement in that building, the three Elders and their subordinates would rush over immediately. Plus the Wanyan Family members, in under five minutes, that building could gather over a hundred people. Do you think anyone has the ability to break into that building?”

Ye Qing took a deep breath. Luckily, he listened to the older man’s words here first. If he had acted rashly earlier, he might have already attracted the entire Wanyan Family out, and then he would be really in danger. It seems that entering that building is really not easy.

”So, is the defense of that building foolproof?” The young man asked.

”Of course, they can’t even let...not even a fly can get in...” As the older man spoke, his tongue started to tie, likely from drinking too much.

”Oh.” The young man slowly nodded, seeing that the older man’s eyes were already getting blurry, he poured another cup of wine. However, while pouring the wine, he stealthily threw some white powder into the wine cup. As the powder dissolved in the wine, there was no visible change in the wine.

Seeing this, Ye Qing couldn’t help but change his expression, suddenly realizing that the young man also had ulterior motives. The conversation with the older man was actually just to extract information. And now he was even drugging the older man, could it be he had some ulterior motives?

Ye Qing originally planned to go in himself, but seeing that the young man was also targeting that building, he immediately changed his mind. Seeing the young man pass the cup of wine to the older man, Ye Qing quietly withdrew from the woodshed and left Wan Yan Manor along the same route, returning again to the top of the building outside Wan Yan Manor to observe the situation inside.

When Ye Qing returned to the top of the building, the woodshed from earlier was already ablaze, it seemed the young man set a fire, intending to lure the guards outside the building away. After all, those guards were the closest to that separate courtyard.

However, reality was completely contrary to the young man’s plan. Even though the separate courtyard was burning heavily, the guards outside the building had no intention of leaving, they stayed firmly outside the building, while people from other places ran over to help put out the fire.

There were plenty of people from the Wanyan Family, and it took them less than half an hour to extinguish the fire. However, that separate courtyard was almost entirely burned down. In fact if just some of the guards at the building’s entrance had gone over earlier, they could have put the fire out before it spread too much, but they remained indifferent as they watched the fire grow, which led to it becoming big in the end.

Seeing this situation, Ye Qing was more convinced that there was definitely something very crucial inside the building, or else the Wanyan Family members wouldn’t guard it so closely. However, seeing this now, it seemed almost impossible to get inside.

Due to the fire incident, there was some chaos within Wan Yan Manor. Amidst this chaos, one young man quietly slipped out of the main gate. Ye Qing saw it clearly, and this young man was the one from before. It seemed that after setting the fire, seeing no opportunity to act, he didn’t dare to stay in the Wanyan Family, and slipped out quietly.

Seeing the young man come out, Ye Qing also slipped away from the rooftop, quietly followed behind the young man. Judging from his movements, the young man knew some Martial Arts, but compared to Ye Qing there was a large gap, not knowing someone was tailing him. With his limited skills, he dared to target the Wanyan Family, quite bold.

The young man walked out of Jin Village without heading towards any neighboring villages, but along a small path, heading towards the nearby forest. Having walked about five or six miles into the forest, he remained very alert, occasionally looking back, clearly fearing someone was tailing him. However, with his skills, he couldn’t detect Ye Qing, so he was unaware of someone following him.

After traveling five or six miles, he came to a small river. The young man observed his surroundings, ensuring no one was around, and then put his hand in his mouth, making a few bird chirps, seemingly as a signal.

Sure enough, soon two chirps responded from a nearby grove. Hearing the sound, the young man was delighted and hurried over. At that point, another figure emerged from the shadows of the grove.

From a distance, Ye Qing was watching. Seeing more people emerging, he became cautious and didn’t close in too much, instead observed the situation from afar.

The figures from the grove also stepped out of the shadows, and the moonlight clearly illuminated the face of the leading person.

Upon seeing that person, Ye Qing almost leaped from his hiding spot. Because that person was Handsome Fatty Wang. Why is he here?
