Urban Martial Saint

”Huh?” Ye Qing’s eyes widened in astonishment as he looked at Old Fifth Yang. As far as he knew, Old Fifth Yang had no children, with several wives, but none could bear him a child. In Shenchuan City, almost everyone knew that Old Fifth Yang had no offspring. How could a daughter suddenly appear?

Old Fifth Yang glared at Ye Qing and said, ”Huh what? Do you really think I’m so heartless that I don’t even have a child?”

”Uh...” Ye Qing scratched his head and asked, ”When... when did you have a daughter?”

”This happened long ago.” Old Fifth Yang smiled slightly. Speaking of this, he seemed very happy and said softly, ”This daughter was born to me by my first girlfriend, or what you usually call first love. At that time, I was dating her, but her family thought I was aimless and refused the match no matter what. Later, she married someone else. But do you know? When she left, she was already pregnant with my child, and I knew nothing about it. It wasn’t until a few years ago, before she passed away from illness, that she had someone find me and tell me about it.”

Ye Qing listened in shock. Who would’ve thought that Old Fifth Yang, so well-known in Jiuchuan County, had such a youthful past? Such a story could indeed be turned into a drama.

”And what about your daughter?” Ye Qing asked curiously, ”How come I’ve never heard you mention her? I haven’t heard anything about this!”

”Heh...” Old Fifth Yang chuckled and said, ”You’ve met her, so how should I bring it up?”

”I’ve met her?” Ye Qing was even more astonished. ”Who is it?”

Old Fifth Yang said, ”The one you brought to Shenchuan City...”

”You mean...” Ye Qing’s eyes widened in disbelief, ”Lin Mengjie?”

Old Fifth Yang slowly nodded and said, ”Exactly her!”

Ye Qing took a deep breath, never imagining that Lin Mengjie was Old Fifth Yang’s daughter. No wonder Old Fifth Yang treated her so well, entrusting her with all matters. That’s why many outsiders suspected there was some unclear relationship between Old Fifth Yang and Lin Mengjie. However, those around Old Fifth Yang knew there was absolutely nothing between them, which puzzled everyone around him.

Now, it all makes sense. Lin Mengjie is Old Fifth Yang’s daughter, which explains why he’s so good to her. He has only this one daughter; what else could he do?

”You have no idea. When I first heard about it, I nearly went crazy. By then, I’d already become wealthy, successful in my career, had everything. But I didn’t have a child, and having one was impossible. Who would have thought that a daughter would suddenly appear at that time? Do you know how I felt?” Old Fifth Yang was visibly emotional as he reminisced with nostalgia, ”The first time I saw Mengjie, she was only seventeen. I really didn’t expect to have such a grown daughter. She was still studying at the time, but her family was so poor that they couldn’t afford food or decent clothing, not even school fees. Ye Zi, you don’t know me. I’ve climbed from the bottom to this position, seen everything, endured all kinds of hardships. I thought I’d grown a heart of stone, thinking that ruthlessness was necessary to get here. But the first time I saw her, I just cried. Do you know why? Because she’s my daughter!”

Old Fifth Yang became more and more agitated, his eyes turning red. Seeing him like this, Ye Qing sighed and patted his shoulder, saying, ”Isn’t that great, at least you finally have a daughter.”

”Yes, that’s what I thought back then too.” Old Fifth Yang said, ”I originally wanted to acknowledge her, but then I thought, would my sudden acknowledgment affect her? So I didn’t acknowledge her, but instead, supported her schooling as an elder, and when she graduated, I had her come back to help me, letting her gradually take over my business. If she hadn’t gone to Shenchuan City, I would’ve given all my business to her. I only have this one daughter; I can only leave everything I have to give to her. No matter what, I have to finish the New District construction project to leave her some more money so she can live well in the future!”

Ye Qing didn’t expect Old Fifth Yang to value the New District construction so much because of this reason. He truly is very good to his only daughter Lin Mengjie, having done excellently as a father.

”Since that’s the case, why not have her come back to be with you?” Ye Qing asked.

”I can’t have her come back!” Old Fifth Yang shook his head decisively, ”She’s doing really well now in Shenchuan City, and it’s a rare opportunity. I’m nearing the end of my days, and there’s no need to waste her time. She’s doing well out there. She can achieve much more than I did. I still have a couple of years, just enough to finish the project here. As her father, I can only give her all I can.”

As a father, Old Fifth Yang truly has done his best. Ye Qing sighed and said softly, ”Fifth Brother, don’t be too disheartened. Actually, you can try visiting more hospitals; perhaps there’s still a chance for a cure.”

”It’s impossible now.” Old Fifth Yang shook his head with a bitter smile, ”I know my condition. Cancer, and it’s already late-stage. Living two more years is already lucky. I haven’t thought much about it, just want to leave more for my daughter. Right, a few days ago I found a lawyer to help me write a will to leave everything to my daughter. Do you know what he said to me?”

”What did he say?” Ye Qing asked.

”He told me to get a paternity test at the hospital to scientifically prove that Mengjie is my daughter.” Old Fifth Yang said, ”Don’t you think he’s crazy?”

”You haven’t done a paternity test?” Ye Qing was also surprised. He thought Old Fifth Yang had already confirmed it.

”Do what? Why do it?” Old Fifth Yang looked at Ye Qing and said, ”Ye Zi, I know what you’re thinking. At the beginning, when I first heard about it, I intended to do a paternity test. But after meeting Mengjie, I dismissed the thought. Why do a paternity test? What difference does a test result make? I’ve spent my life without a son or daughter, and this is my last hope. I don’t even want to doubt it, and regardless of whether she’s my daughter or not, at least in my heart, she’s my daughter. I leave everything for her!”

Ye Qing was deeply moved by Old Fifth Yang’s words. He stared at Old Fifth Yang for a long moment and said, ”Fifth Brother, I’m truly impressed by you with this matter!”

”Hahaha...” Old Fifth Yang laughed heartily, ”Ye Zi, even if you didn’t come, I was planning to look for you. There are things I don’t know who to talk to about. After thinking about it, you are the most reliable.”

”Fifth Brother, go ahead and talk!” Ye Qing said calmly.

”To be honest, I don’t know how long I have left either. I have no other wishes. The only thing I can’t let go of is this daughter.” Old Fifth Yang sighed, ”Girls, out there, inevitably bullied. Ye Zi, I have no brothers or anyone to trust. I could say, living to this point, you’re the person I trust the most. I only told you about this, and if one day, I’m no longer here, could you please help take care of Mengjie, alright?”

Looking into Old Fifth Yang’s sincere eyes, Ye Qing slowly nodded and replied, ”Fifth Brother, don’t worry. I won’t let anyone bully her!”

”With those words, my heart is at ease!” Old Fifth Yang slowly nodded, leaning back on the sofa, and smiled lightly, ”In the past, as a young man, I only thought about making money, getting rich, fearing death. Now that I know when I’m going to die, it has ironically calmed my heart. When people get old, is it always like this?”

Ye Qing sat opposite, watching Old Fifth Yang slowly drift into sleep, and slowly got up to leave the room. After this talk with Old Fifth Yang, his heart felt heavy. He continued to ponder in his heart, looking for a way to save Old Fifth Yang. But, with cancer, could it be cured? Unless the Divine Doctor An Shiping was still around, or finding someone like Sai Hua Tuo Baili Xi or King Yan Ning Qianshu, there might be a slim chance. But finding them isn’t easy, is it?

Upon leaving the hotel, Ye Qing didn’t go home but drove directly to the ancestral tombs. In the morning, he arrived to see that the workers were still there, doing the finishing touches outside the area, which would take a bit more time.

Ye Qing arrived there, greeted his father and Yuan Xiaoyu, who then took his father, Ye Changwen, home, leaving Ye Qing alone on the mountain. And at this time, as the sky darkened, Ye Qing slowly began to examine the accumulated earth, looking to see if he could find any clues within it.

The heap of earth lay accumulated together, and Ye Qing carefully examined it, hoping to uncover some clues. It seemed that these two graves had not been disturbed recently, but rather, were disturbed long ago.
