Rebirth: A Cinderella's Counterattack

Chapter 499: Chapter 479: The Struggle in the Dormitory (18)

Without any hesitation, she went to the library, plugged in the computer, and discovered a problem. The materials didn’t only have the video of Cao Yingying posting the thread, but also a video of her deleting the post, and there was even a video of Cao Yingying later going to delete the surveillance footage and walking out of the internet cafe with a greasy-looking man.

There was even surveillance video of Cao Yingying going to the hotel with the greasy man, with the hotel’s name and room number clearly visible, and even a video of Cao Yingying later crying as she walked out in disarray, with her clothes disheveled and hair messy.

Luo Qianqian was stunned for a moment, and her expression changed slightly.

This person’s skill level was clearly much higher than hers by an unknown margin, from the angle of the videos to their clarity, and even the timing was managed just right. She ejected the USB drive without wiping it clean, as the contents were still useful to her.

But as she left the library, she saw a familiar face who greeted her: ”Hey! Flying Little Policewoman.”

”Qiu Jie, what a coincidence,” Luo Qianqian pulled a smile, ”Are you solving math problems instead of sleeping in the afternoon?”

”Do I look like I have nothing better to do? I came because I heard that the beauty of the English Department was in the library, just to see what the fuss was all about,” Qiu Jie said with a smug expression: ”Do you know? I heard that the recent clash over the title of campus hunk was all for this beauty, a tale of rekindling rage for a lady fair.”

Luo Qianqian simply raised her eyebrows but said nothing.

”Right, isn’t the new campus hunk from your department?” Qiu Jie continued.

Luo Qianqian nodded: ”He’s in my class, too.” And sat right next to her.

”Is he really that handsome? Are there always a lot of girls around him?” Qiu Jie asked, clearly excited.

Luo Qianqian didn’t want to break his fantasy, but still friendly replied, ”Aren’t you going to check out the beauty of the department?”

”Ah, right, right, let’s talk later,” Qiu Jie darted off, and Luo Qianqian shook her head, speechless.

Whether the former campus hunk really fancied that beauty, she did not know. However, Elvis probably wouldn’t, since aside from his usual basketball companion, he couldn’t distinguish the other boys. The rare recognition he had for her was likely because she was short.

In Elvis’s eyes, everyone looked the same.

Like that one time in class, when both teachers were wearing the same color clothes, someone asked, ”Didn’t we have a different teacher for this class? Why is it still the same one teaching?”

The two teachers clearly differed, one with big eyes, a slender face, and a high nose bridge, while the other had small eyes, a round face, and a large mouth; they didn’t look alike at all.

Luo Qianqian couldn’t explain to him how to tell which teacher was which, as she couldn’t even recognize all of them herself.

She could only put it plainly: ”Look at the schedule. If it’s not the same class, it’s not the same teacher.”

Because of this incident, Luo Qianqian naturally assumed that Elvis had face blindness to Asians, just as she couldn’t distinguish foreigners’ faces.

But a basketball showdown? Luo Qianqian felt like laughing. It was simply a game of basketball; why was it made to sound so mystical? It reminded her of that movie with a foreign kid who had a lightning bolt on his forehead, wasn’t there one called XX Showdown too?

That was a life-or-death situation, whereas these two were just playing basketball, making it sound so terrifying.

Luo Qianqian didn’t head back to her dormitory but sat on the steps in front of the teaching building with the USB drive. Looking at the USB, it seemed quite ordinary, nothing notable about it, and it was sold in the school too. There were too many possible buyers; there was no way to trace it back to a specific person.

Moreover, this person was more skilled than she was, which meant they weren’t just any nobody. They were also able to use her dormitory contacts to deliver the item to her, indicating that it was someone from within the school. So, she started checking from the more capable teachers and students in the school.

The Computer Science department was definitely the first to consider, and a key focus.

The materials didn’t only cover surveillance footage from the internet cafe and hotel but even included street scenes, and the angles weren’t limited to just these two locations’ surveillance equipment.

What exactly was this person capable of? Were they a friend or foe?

In an instant, Luo Qianqian thought of many people, from Hei Yu to Ke Ji under Ye Liang. She really didn’t know many with such abilities, who also understood the affairs within the school. It obviously wasn’t something either of these two could do; Hei Yu, if he had his own materials, could have easily handed them directly to her without going through such convoluted means and involving others.

It was the same with Ke Ji. If Ye Liang wasn’t managing her affairs, Ke Ji was even less likely to intercede on a whim.

So it was someone from the school after all.

It always felt like the incident with Cao Yingying wasn’t over, but rather the beginning, a troublesome beginning.

She sat for a long time until people started to pass by the building more frequently. Then she stood up, patted the dirt off herself, and turned to leave.

She completely failed to notice two pairs of eyes on the floor above, watching her departing figure with profound gazes.

”Get that side ready.”

”Yes, teacher.”

When she returned to the dormitory, however, she saw Qin Nuan glaring with confusion, ”What happened? Who dared to make Miss Qin angry?”

Qin Nuan shot her a displeased look and said indignantly, ”The money from my locker is gone.”

”You had money in your locker?” Luo Qianqian feigned surprise with widened eyes, ”Don’t you carry everything on you?”

”It’s for emergencies, in case I need cash and can’t go get it.” Qin Nuan naturally understood Luo Qianqian’s implication and sighed, ”Everyone in the dorm knows about it.”

”Why did you put it in the locker instead of a box?” Luo Qianqian pouted, the combination lock on the box is only known to the individual while the locker’s lock can be duplicated and even made on demand.

”This is so in case I’m not in the dorm and one of us needs it,” Qin Nuan frowned, ”I didn’t have any cash on me and wanted to take a bill to use for food after class, but now there’s not a single one left.”

”How much did you put in there?” Luo Qianqian listened to her description and got the feeling this wasn’t good—a bill? It seemed she had put in more than one?

”A thousand.” Qin Nuan sighed, it wasn’t a lot of money, but it was a matter of trust among roommates, wasn’t it?

”Maybe someone took it for an emergency and plans to return it later.” Luo Qianqian said cheerfully and turned around, only to see the other four people shaking their heads—Cong Rong, Zhang Yun, Xiu Ran, and Cao Yingying were all shaking their heads.

Luo Qianqian pointed to herself, ”Could it be me?”

”Stop joking.” Qin Nuan rolled her eyes. Everything else in the locker was intact; the only thing missing was cash. Compared to cash, the watch casually placed in the corner was more valuable—it was an old watch she replaced with a new one given to her by Luo Yanran. It was a coming-of-age gift from her two brothers, obviously more valuable than cash.

”Did any of you lose money?” Luo Qianqian was naturally looking at the watch as well, frowning slightly.

She didn’t need to check her own, because she only had enough cash for one week—who would put that somewhere carelessly? It was all in her wallet, which she carried with her.

Cong Rong was the first to shake her head, ”I only withdraw two hundred at a time, the rest stays in my purse.”

Zhang Yun also shook her head, pulling out her wallet which contained no more than seventy-something yuan, scratching her head awkwardly, ”I’ve been mooching meals and haven’t really spent money recently.”

Xiu Ran also shook her head, ”My money’s all in my wallet and on my bank card, I don’t keep it in the dorm.”

Cao Yingying hesitated a bit before opening her mouth, ”I was missing two hundred previously, I thought I was misremembering, but now it seems it might have been taken.”

Qin Nuan and the others did not believe what Cao Yingying said. Now, she was the most suspicious person in the dorm, but there was no proof. All the things Cao Yingying brought back recently were worth thousands each—what would one thousand do for her?

However, Luo Qianqian held her chin thoughtfully, frowning slightly, ”When did you lose it?”

”Probably, yesterday? I noticed it was gone last night,” Cao Yingying pursed her lips, looking at Luo Qianqian with some touched gratitude. Now, only Luo Qianqian still seemed willing to believe she was telling the truth.

Luo Qianqian raised an eyebrow at Qin Nuan.

Qin Nuan caught on, her gaze deepening as she thought for a moment, ”I can’t pinpoint the exact time between yesterday and today.”
