The Adventures of an Overpowered Knight in Another World

Chapter 720- Battle of Blacktide (4)

”They are delayed and questioned. Officially, there simply isn’t enough manpower available”.

The council member and several people here showed a cruel smile.

Reinhardt had long become a thorn in their side. This time they want him gone by any means. Duvessa leaned forward in interest.

She really liked intelligent humans who could do their part. ”Have the crown or the other members of the council not suspected anything yet?”

The council member nodded.

”They did ask about the northern front. However, whenever concerns arise, we simply present reports about the western and southern fronts. Since the other fronts appear equally desperate, no one suspects deliberate interference.”

Duvessa slowly nodded. ”Excellent.” The illusion of fairness. As they say, the finest lie is one that contains both truth and lie.

Since it was a fact that many demons were showing their appearance on the other fronts too.

Seeing Duvessa’s delight, these council members gave more reports to please her more.

”There is more. The supply convoys going to the north.”

During the start of the war, the Northern Fortress only received enough provisions to continue operating for less than a year. Even the ones in their hands cannot be called strategic reserves. Medical supplies are incomplete, and the replacement weapons with them are mostly second rate.

Even the defensive weapons on the fortress require large repairs from time to time.

”Hmm, you all have indeed done a lot. However, wouldn’t this contrarily make them suspicious?” Duvessa questioned.

”Your Majesty does not need to worry. We understand Reinhardt’s nature very well. Even with things breaking apart, he wouldn’t give up the fortress and fight till the bitter end.”

”Plus, with us here, no evidence could point toward sabotage. We ensured to leave no traces, and even if investigated, each department would blame each other, and the bureaucracy itself would become the culprit”.

Duvessa’s smile deepened.

”Marvelous, you humans truly excel at destroying yourselves.” Then she changed the topic. ”How goes the plan for the infiltration of the capital’s treasury?”

She conjured a magic that showed her a three dimensional structure of the royal capital. Its walls and defenses.

”Regarding the Supreme Divine Treasure Crown of Dawn, the outer security remains unchanged, as altering it would immediately raise suspicion. So we targeted the inner structure instead. We quietly reassigned veteran palace guards to administrative duties and promoted inexperienced officers.”

Since the war paints a dire picture, no one would suspect the change. Furthermore, many of these newly promoted knights are greedy for fame and success. They can easily be bribed and when the time comes, disposing them off would also be easy.

”What’s more, these knights belong to other noble factions; as such, when suspicions arise, all of them would have to shoulder them together. As for the treasury itself, there is no way to move the royal guards there. Unless the palace is attacked the won’t make a move.”

That said, with the crisis going on, the response time of nearby elite units would be increased significantly. If the remaining guards are taken care of, then entry to the treasury would become simple.

Even if someone hears the commotion and tries to rush in, they won’t be able to make it in time.

Those units will be deployed outside the capital under emergency wartime directives. By the time all guards are alerted, it will already be too late.

Duvessa slowly circled the magical projection. ”Are there any other Extreme Knights in the capital?”

She knew the greatest danger in this mission. Although she knew that most of the powerful knights and the three Heroes of Solaris were deployed to the front, it did not mean that Solaris had no Extreme Knights in the capital.

What she was worried about was those hidden protectors of Solaris. The old knights who were barely hanging on to life and maintaining a bit of their power.

Of course, she had the confidence to kill them, but he hated moving personally when things could be solved with schemes.

A silence followed. No one spoke for a while.

”Prepare a plan to force these old fogies out of the capital. If it doesn’t work, leave it.”

Sensing her displeasure and the hopes of immortality getting away, the others hurriedly spoke.

”Understood, your majesty. When the decisive battle begins, we will issue simultaneous emergencies across multiple fronts to force the Extreme Knights to leave the capital and join the frontline.”

”We just hope that you will help us deal with Reinhardt”.

Duvessa smiled coldly. These fools are trying to kill one of their greatest knights due to their ridiculous hunger for power. But that works right in her favor.

She, too wanted to get rid of these dangerous factors called Heroes. What’s more, she was alos a lot curious about this Divine Paladin. She hadn’t forgotten the strange reaction the Seventh Heavenly King had when he heard the name.

”Don’t worry, the war has forced the Three Heroes to be unable to step away from the frontline. When we attack the Divine Paladin, the other fronts would face berserk demonic forces, and none of them would be able to leave their station to reinforce the northern front.”

Their greatest strength, their willingness to protect humanity, will become the very thing that destroys them.

The Seventh Heavenly King Mammon was personally taking action. Even if it’s a hero against an old demon who had lived for more than five hundred years, he was still not a match.

That said, he was she indeed, a little curious about this Divine Paladin. So she asked about this knight.

One of the council members who previously had a lot of interaction with Reinhardt spoke.

”He is the son of Duke Raymond and the current commander of one of the Seven Great Knight Orders of Solaris, the Temple of Light. It was established more than hundred years ago and possesses a deep foundation of sword techniques and skills”.

”Moreover, the holy energy they use is quite potent and versatile. What’s more, Reinhardt possesses the greatest mobility and the highest battlefield success rate among all the knights. We have tried to kill him or ruin his reputation by sending him over on countless dangerous and impossible to solve mission”...

”However, he completed each and every one of them with remarkable success. As the knight who is regarded as the greatest commander since the establishment of the Temple of Light knight order, he possesses powerful mastery over holy energy and sword skills”.

These members hated Reinhardt to their core, as many of their businesses and hidden interests were ruined by him.

Be that as it may, even though they hated him, they still recognized his strength. They were also afraid that Duvessa would underestimate the hero and be unable to wipe him out, which is why they gave her all the information they dug out about him.

Including his estimated stats and skills that he had displayed.

”Hnnn~” Duvessa made a nasal sound. This man indeed had a perfect record. But all that meant nothing in front of their kind.

”Don’t worry. No matter how powerful he is, it is all the same. He will die.”

She was quite delighted. Every piece was falling in place, and the plan was working perfectly.

The Seventh heavenly King Mammon was already eyeing the Temple of Light, who were suffering heavy casualties and barely holding on.

When the decisive moment arrives, and the order’s strength falls to its lowest point, it would be the time Mammon would launch his attacks. Once the hero falls and the northern region is trampled, the news would create widespread chaos and fear in the kingdom.

The other knight orders and Heroes would be desperate to rush to the northern front or be held in place over the fabricated crises, and the Royal Capital will possess only symbolic defenses.

That would be when she would make her move, entering the palace unhindered and stealing the Crown of Dawn.

Thinking this far, Duvessa couldn’t help but laugh. Her beautiful, soft laughter echoed across the hall.

Yet upon hearing it, every human present instinctively trembled.

”You have exceeded my expectations.” Duvessa glanced at the humans and slowly raised a hand. Green mist flowed outward and gently touched each kneeling figure.

Feeling the power slowly filling their bodies with vitality, every one of them shivered in ecstasy.

”I reward loyalty, and I never forget those who serve me well.” Saying that, she swept her emerald eyes across them. ”Continue your work. When Solaris falls, I shall personally grant each of you what you desire most.”

The council members looked up hopefully. ”Immortality.”

This single word caused every heart inside the chamber to pound violently.

Duvessa smiled. ”Very well, once everything is over, you shall never again fear age or death and live forever.”

Hearing her promise, the chamber erupted with excitement.

”We thank Lady Duvessa. Our eternal queen. We shall not disappoint you.”

Watching the humans prostrate themselves before her, Duvessa’s smile became increasingly amused.

Immortality? How laughable.
