The Adventures of an Overpowered Knight in Another World

Chapter 711- I Want To Change This Kingdom (2)

If not for the people opening his eyes, he wouldn’t have been able to see the true face of the Council of Elders.

”The knights will strive to do better in the future. So that something like this never happens again.”

Reinhardt did everything that he could to make amends. As for forgiveness, it depended on the people of the town.

A month later, he came again. The month after that too. Then again and again. He did not give up. Gradually, people opened up to him.

Sometimes he simply helped repair fences, sometimes he assisted during harvest season, or played with the children. When there was nothing to do, he simply sat quietly beside Silas, drinking tea. Before long, a year had passed.

By now, the people of Blueberry Town had grown accustomed to the sight of golden hair appearing near the town entrance every month.

\They no longer feared, not even the children. In fact, his popularity in the town had skyrocketed especially after he fended off a powerful monster that wandered too close to the town.

Thanks to him and the other knights of the Temple of Light, Blueberry Town enjoyed a year of peace.

Granny Maribel had once shoved an entire basket of blueberry pie into his hands while scolding him for being too skinny.

Reinhardt still remembered her warm smile. He had no answer to that.

That said, the most notable change, however, was the attitude of the Benedict Siblings towards him.

.

In a wide field behind Silas’s house, two figures could be seen fighting fiercely.

”Too slow.”

CLANG... Their swords collided. Drystan stepped backward.

Seeing this, Silas snorted. ”Drystan, your footwork becomes sloppy when your concentration decreases. Stop brute forcing, you are not an adventurer”.

He was merciless in his critique. Even Reinhardt who was facing Drystan himself felt that the other party did not do too badly. Silas was just too hard on his disciple.

”But Master, this guy is very strong. If I don’t put all my strength into every swing, I would instead be knocked out”.

Drystan tried to reason. But all he got in return was more berating.

”Stop making excuses. Excuses are the privilege of losers. It is not that he is physically overwhelming you, it is that his footwork and mastery over his body is above yours”.

Saying that, Silas put his tea down and stood up.

”Reinhardt, switch with me. I’ll teach this foolish student with my own sword”.

With that, Drystan’s time became even more miserable. ”Fundamentals... Fundamentals are the most important. If you continue embarrassing me, your master like this, then I will never teach you advanced swordsmanship”.

Drystan immediately perked his head up, his eyes burning with determination. ”No master, don’t do this. I will do my best. Here, see, I fixed the problem”.

Under the carrot and stick training, Drystan improved at an astounding rate.

Meanwhile, nearby, Reinhardt and Aurelia observed the scene. Although Reinhardt did his best to suppress his laughter, Aurelia broke out laughing out loud.

There was no helping it; unless Drystan was given some harsh motivation like this, he generally did not put in effort.

’That is your brother getting beaten’. Reinhardt turned towards her.

The woman quickly looked away. Unfortunately, the smile remained.

Seeing this, even Reinhardt couldn’t help smiling helplessly.

The training eventually came to an end. Or rather, Silas finally decided to stop.

Drystan, meanwhile, lay on the ground staring blankly at the sky. His clothes were torn, and his face was swollen. One of his eyes had a bulge as big as a potato. There was even a footprint on his back.

Looking at his miserable appearance, Reinhardt’s lips twitched. As if seeing through what he was thinking, the old knight snorted.

”If I don’t beat him now, someone else will beat him harder later. Besides, your father and I used to be trained by our master just like this.”

Saying that, he glanced at his disciple with visible dissatisfaction. ”Hmph. He only lasted fifteen exchanges longer than last month.”

Drystan almost coughed up blood. ”Master... that’s because you suddenly used that ridiculous spinning attack halfway through...”

”Still making excuses.”

That shut him up.

”...” Reinhardt silently offered the young man a moment of sympathy.

Aurelia crouched beside her brother, patching him up. ”Brother, are you alright?”

Drystan forced himself to act tough with great difficulty. ”I’ve never been better.” Though his body swayed dangerously.

Aurelia sighed. ”Brother, things would not have come to this, had you simply focused harder on the training since the beginning.”

”What do you know, a warrior’s blood is proof of glory.” Seemingly not wanting to lose face, he made excuses.

After patching him up, they all had lunch.

Training burns a lot of calories, and it needs to be replenished again for the body to grow stronger. Thus, a hearty meal followed.

The atmosphere was peaceful.

Looking around at the familiar faces surrounding him, Reinhardt suddenly found it difficult to imagine that just over a year ago, he had arrived here intending to arrest the people sitting at this table.

Fate truly worked in mysterious ways.

While having lunch, Reinhardt suddenly looked toward Drystan.

”Drystan... have you ever thought about becoming a knight?”

”Hm?”

The sudden question immediately silenced the table.

Drystan looked up from his plate. For a moment, his eyes lit up.

Knights... This title, how many children had dreamed of becoming one? Guardians of humanity. Warriors who stood between civilization and the endless darkness beyond the borders.

Men and women who marched into demon infested lands knowing full well they might never return. Their stories were sung in taverns. Their valor and names are carved into monuments.

It was no exaggeration to say that becoming a knight was the dream of everyone in this world. Children even wielded wooden swords, pretending to become them.

Across the continent, countless young men and women looked toward the knight orders with admiration burning in their hearts. Drystan was no exception.

After his loss against Reinhardt one year ago, he had learned a lot about his opponent from his master.

Stories of Reinhardt’s achievement, adventures in ancient ruins, battles against monstrous creatures, and even duels between masters whose swords could split mountains and rivers.

Needless to say, such stories made his blood boil with excitement. He too yearned for adventure and fame, to make a name for himself.

For a brief moment, Drystan couldn’t help but imagine himself as a knight. Though immediately after, his eyes dimmed.

If he left the town, what would happen to this place? Who would protect everyone here? His thoughts drifted to the warm elderly people, to children who looked up to him.

Who could guarantee those dastardly nobles won’t return? Who could guarantee that the town of Blueberry won’t be targeted again?

Blueberry Town had survived because someone strong stood between them and those who wished to exploit them. That someone was Drystan.

”Hmph.” Silas snorted. ”Stop hesitating like that. Are you a woman?”

”...”

”...”

”...” Aurelia blinked. Can you not be a chauvinist? I am right here.

The old knight crossed his arms and made the decision for his disciple. ”Drystan Benedict. Your talent is too great for this tiny town. In a few more years, even I will have nothing left to teach you. If you truly wish to protect the people important to you... then become stronger. Become a knight. Only then will you understand how small this world truly is.”

Silas looked toward the distant horizon. ”The dangers waiting out there are not things a village hero can stop. They require monsters.”

His gaze landed on Reinhardt. ”Monsters like him.”

Drystan was silent; he then looked at Aurelia and asked.

”What about my sister?”

Silas looked toward the young woman. ”Aurelia.”

”Y-Yes?”

”I heard from Maribel that you’re a terrible cook.”

A blow to her self-esteem. The young woman instantly lowered her head.

”I am trying to improve.”

”No, you’re not. You cook vegetables without peeling their covers”. Drystan retorted.

”Brother!”

The old knight spoke mercilessly. ”You are a horrible cook. However... I also heard that you’re exceptionally talented at tailoring and knitting. There are merchants in Lumise Town who would kill to have hands as skilled as yours. You should go there”...

”Learn and improve your skill and someday, open your own shop. Design your own clothes. Forcing yourself to remain in Blueberry Town would simply be wasting your talent.”

The young woman lowered her head quietly. After a moment, she nodded.

”I understand”.

Silas then looked toward Reinhardt. The old knight’s sharp eyes seemed capable of seeing through everything. As someone who had spent decades as a knight, how could he not see what Reinhardt was planning?

The old man smiled faintly and pointed at Drystan.

”Don’t worry, I’ll make this brat worthy of becoming your right-hand man.”

Hearing this, both Reinhardt and Drystan looked surprised.

Silas continued. ”When you become Commander one day... He’ll have enough skill to contend for Second-in-Command. That is to say, he’ll become vice commander material.”
