The Adventures of an Overpowered Knight in Another World

Chapter 714- Divine Paladin, Sword Saint (2)

Reinhardt raised an eyebrow. ”Punch me?”

Drystan glared at him. ”For making my sister so sad”.

”...” Reinhardt suddenly found himself unable to argue. Thinking back on it, Drystan really had tried very hard to hit him. Especially near the end.

Several punches had been mixed into sword strikes. The force behind them had been so fierce that even Reinhardt had no doubt they would have left bruises if they had connected.

Reinhardt could only smile wryly.

As a brother, Drystan was right in his own way to be mad. Silence fell for a while. Only the sounds of insects and the night wind remained.

Eventually, Reinhardt spoke. ”So... you’ll join the Temple of Light?”

Drystan did not hesitate this time and answered with a nod. ”Yeah.”

Though he quickly added. ”Don’t misunderstand. I’m not joining because of you.”

He pointed a finger at Reinhardt. ”I’m joining to keep an eye on you. You have a bad habit of throwing yourself at impossible missions. Master told me your situation”...

”Those noble bastards are targeting you. Which is why someone has to stand beside you to stop you from doing something stupid. Besides... if you die again, my sister will cry, and I hate seeing her cry.”

Hearing this, Reinhardt smiled. ”Then I’ll be counting on you, my future Vice Commander”.

Drystan scratched his head. ”Vice Commander sounds like a troublesome position. Isn’t that the old man’s plan to train me as your right-hand man? Well, alright”...

”When you become Commander of the Temple of Light... I’ll stand beside you. As your strongest sword. And if you try doing something stupid... I’ll beat some sense into you.” Reinhardt laughed.

Thus, the two strongest duo who shake the kingdom of Solaris and even the neighbouring kingdom, were formed.

The years that followed passed like a storm. A storm named Reinhardt Arcknight and Drystan Benedict.

After joining the Temple of Light, Drystan’s terrifying talent exploded forth without restraint. The once unknown young man from Blueberry Town climbed through the ranks with frightening speed.

With every fight and mission, he grew stronger and his sword sharper. This naturally increased his prestige and fame.

Reinhardt and Drystan, the two names, became known to almost everyone.

And why would it not? Together, they began accomplishing legendary feats.

Like the incident of the Frost Highlands. Where a Level 9 Extreme Knight from a neighbouring nation had gone berserk after falling to corruption and annihilated the entire tribe living in the frostlands. Three Orders dispatched previously had already failed to stop him.

The Temple of Light took the mission and Reinhardt fought the Extreme Knight head-on. And Drystan held down any and all subordinates the knight had with him. The battle lasted seven hours beneath a blizzard before the two finally subdued the knight without taking his life.

After that, came the incident of Hollow Maw Expedition. A ruin near the Tainted Lands that had devoured six expedition teams and earned the title, ’The Tomb of Knights.’

When the Temple of Light accepted the mission, no one expected them to return alive.

However, three days later, Reinhardt and Drystan arrived at the capital, bringing back the wounded knights from the previous expeditions.

One impossible mission after another. The Council of Elders tried to push them over the edge.

However, Reinhardt, Drystan and the Temple of Light came out from every expedition, alive and stronger.

Even the expedition to the distant nations facing ruins was the same.

Reinhardt led the Temple of Light to support the tottering nation. Drystan led less than two hundred knights through enemy lines and evacuated over a hundred thousand civilians before the demons could reach them.

Thanks to their almost perfect record and mission completion, the prestige of the Temple of Light soared higher, becoming one of the Seven Great Knight Orders.

The people began calling them the Twin Pillars of the Temple of Light.

One mission after another... eventually, even the then most powerful knights began to see the two as more than just young knights and more like equals.

They earned respect from everyone.

And then, a few years later. The whole world shook. At merely twenty five years of age, Reinhardt Arcknight became the Vice Commander of the Temple of Light, becoming the youngest Vice Commander in centuries.

The mission of the Crimson Bridge had gone down to become a legend, sung and praised by bards all around the world.

The battle that became one of the greatest defensive actions in the current era. For three days and three nights, Reinhardt held the Crimson Bridge against endless tides of darkness.

Demons, corrupted monsters, blanketed the sky and earth. And leading them was one of the Twelve Heavenly Kings. The bridge that became a mountain of corpses still stood to this day.

Although humanity lost that land eventually, all the knights and citizens behind were able to safely evacuate thanks to one man who stood there for three days and nights without falling back. Even today, those who had seen the battle continue to speak about it.

However, what they forgot was that there was another knight who stood beside him through those three days.

When Reinhardt was almost overwhelmed and the bridge was about to be overrun, another knight carried the burden. Drystan Benedict, the knight who stood shoulder to shoulder with the future Divine Paladin.

Following the battle, the Altar acknowledged Reinhardt’s achievements so far and gave him a trial of Ascension.

That’s right, a trial to challenge the realm of legends itself. The realm known as Heroes... the realm of Level 10.

News spread. Whether it be nobles, royals, or the other knight orders. They all waited with bated breath for the results.

Even neighbouring nations turned their eyes towards Solaris.

Everyone wanted to know. Would humanity gain another pillar?

For the trial, Reinhardt selected only one companion. His strongest sword and comrade, Level 9 Extreme Knight Drystan Benedict.

A few months later... the answer arrived. The cathedral in the capital of Solaris shone brightly, and the ensuing pillar of light shot through the sky. A phenomenon that signalled the birth and the Altar acknowledging the rise of a new hero.

News spread like wildfire. Reinhardt Arcknight had succeeded. Humanity had gained another Level 10 existence.

What’s more, the class he was given by the elder was none other than the hallowed Divine Paladin class.

The world erupted. The name Reinhardt Arcknight became world famous. Then, before the excitement could subside, another piece of news shook the continent again.

The current commander of the Temple of Light, Raymond Arcknight was stepping down, and the one to take his place was none other than his son, Reinhardt Arcknight, Level 10 Divine Paladin.

At the same time, another name rose alongside his. Drystan Benedict, who succeeded Reinhardt as the Vice Commander of the Temple of Light. People began knowing him as the Sword Saint.

The former unknown youth of Blueberry Town had climbed to the second highest seat of one of humanity’s greatest knight orders. The Temple of Light entered its golden age. Its commanders were monsters.

Its victories were absolute, and its prestige reached unprecedented heights. For years to come, the many aspiring knights hoped to join the Temple of Light.

People even began discussing that perhaps if the trend continued, the Temple of Light would eventually surpass every knight order in Solaris, becoming the strongest Knight Order in the Kingdom.

Solaris was enjoying an unprecedented peace and development. However, as the saying goes, peace does not last long. The bad news arrived.

Five years before the present day.

Every hero and knight of Solaris was summoned to the Royal Castle. The atmosphere inside the grand hall was heavy. Commanders and veteran knights who had experienced countless battlefields wore solemn expressions.

Even the younger knights could sense it. Something was wrong.

At the very front of the hall stood the rulers of Solaris. The King and Queen.

Below them were the Council, and then came the Heroes and Commanders of the major Orders.

The hall was filled with tension.

The King rose from his throne and addressed the crowd with a grave expression.

”I have received news. It is almost certain now. The Forces of Darkness are moving.”

Those words instantly caused the temperature inside the hall to drop. Demons were the greatest threat to humankind, and the Forces of Darkness, led by the Twelve Heavenly Kings, were not a force any kingdom could ignore.

The hall fell into a suffocating silence.

The King’s words had struck like a hammer, and the weight of them pressed down on every individual present inside the hall. That single sentence meant war on a scale none of them could ignore.

The Queen’s gaze swept across the hall, sorrow and resolve evident in her eyes.

”The scouting parties from the frontier have confirmed it. The Forces of Darkness have begun advancing toward the Seven Kingdoms.”

Although humanity and demons have fought many battles in all these years, this was different.

The King’s expression darkened further.
