Transmigrated as The Best Female Character of the Year

’In her heart, there was Ian, and there was that pig... but was there any room for him?’

”Mr. Fairchild...” Melody called out.

Her voice pulled Evan Fairchild from his thoughts. Seeing her hesitate, as if she wanted to say something but couldn’t, he felt a flicker of anticipation. He wondered what she was going to say.

His gaze swept over her.

When he saw she was only in a bathrobe, a flicker of amusement danced in his eyes. ’She actually came over in a bathrobe.’

Melody took a deep breath and quickly asked, ”Mr. Fairchild, when are you leaving Somberfell City?”

Evan Fairchild’s expression froze, his brow slowly furrowing. Then, without a word, he turned and walked away.

”Mr. Fair—” Melody reached out, about to call him back, but he had already disappeared around the corner.

’He’s angry?’

Melody was at a complete loss, wanting to cry but having no tears to shed.

’Hasn’t he scared me half to death all day? I was already being as tactful as possible. All I did was ask when he was leaving.’

’I didn’t even dare say anything else.’

She quietly tiptoed after him, heading in the direction he had disappeared.

’So many rooms? Which one is he in?’ She had no choice but to push open the doors one by one. Finally, in the room at the very end of the hall, she saw him.

”Why are you still here?”

”I...” Melody was at a loss for words.

”If you don’t want to see me, then get out.”

Melody stood in the doorway, twisting her fingers. ’He’s really angry! I have no idea what to do. An angry Evan Fairchild is terrifying!’

Evan Fairchild watched her, looking so lost. ’Doesn’t she know she’s supposed to come over and coax me?’

’I’m really easy to please! Just say something like ”I miss you” or ”I don’t want you to go,” and I’ll stop being angry in a heartbeat.’

”I’ll be going, then,” Melody said meekly, deciding it was best not to provoke him when he was already angry.

Evan Fairchild: ...

”Go! Get out of here right now!”

Melody immediately shut the door and ran off without a backward glance.

Evan Fairchild: ...

He immediately chased after her, only to find that the woman who had just run out the door was turning back. He wanted to hide, but there was nowhere to go, so he could only stand there awkwardly in the living room, trying to look cold and aloof. He seemed to have forgotten that he wasn’t even wearing slippers.

The moment Melody turned back, she saw Evan Fairchild and stopped in her tracks. She pointed timidly toward the balcony. ”I... I’ll take Bunny with me.”

Evan Fairchild: ...

Melody had only taken a single step when he grabbed her wrist, his grip tight.

She lost her balance and stumbled into his arms.

Evan Fairchild held her tightly.

Melody didn’t dare to move. With her face pressed against his chest, she could hear his powerful heartbeat. She realized she loved the sound; it gave her a strange sense of security.

Evan stroked her soft hair, wishing he could absorb her into his very soul and keep her locked there for a thousand lifetimes.

Melody could feel the strength in his arms. Being held by him felt... cherished, as if she were a precious treasure he was holding in the palm of his hand.

In that moment, she sensed that he cared for her. She could feel his affection. ’So this is what it’s like to be in love.’ The feeling was sweeter than honey.

Slowly, she raised her arms and wrapped them around him, nuzzling her face against his chest.

”Still leaving?”

”Weren’t you the one who told me to go?”

”If you dare to leave again, I’ll break... the pig’s legs!”

Melody looked up at him and couldn’t help but smile. Evan pushed her head back against his chest, holding her tightly once more.

”Be good and don’t move. Just let me hold you for a little while.” ’If she moves,’ he thought, ’I might lose control.’

「One minute later...」

”Mr. Fairchild, can you not hold me so tight? It’s hot, and I can barely breathe.”
