Transmigrated as The Best Female Character of the Year

”What? You don’t know how to play? Then why did you tell me to play the jokers!”

”I don’t understand the rules. I just thought those two cards were the strongest, so I told you to play them first.”

”I can’t believe I actually listened to you! No wonder I lost so badly!” Melody was so frustrated she didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. ’Playing whichever cards he likes... That’s Evan Fairchild for you.’

”If only you listened to me like that about other things, too.”

”Huh?” Melody didn’t quite hear what he said.

She had reached the riverbank and sat down on some rocks.

The sky hadn’t completely darkened, and the afterglow of the sunset still lingered.

Watching her, Evan Fairchild was suddenly overwhelmed with how much he missed her.

Even though he’d been glued to his phone these past few days, watching her livestream from start to finish, the feeling of missing her was still intense. The moment he heard Melody Monroe’s voice, he wished more than anything that he was right there by her side.

”Are you back in Rockwellburg?” Melody asked, noticing that Evan Fairchild seemed to be in a car.

”Mhm, but I’m about to leave.”

”It’s not very convenient to charge my phone out here, so I haven’t been in touch with you or Ian.”

”Mhm.” Even though it was a weak excuse, he still felt much better hearing it.

Being unable to get in touch and not wanting to get in touch were two completely different things.

She was the former.

Evan Fairchild had always been an optimist.

”How has Ian been doing lately?”

”He’s doing great. I checked his homework today, and he did an excellent job.”

”Ian’s really wonderful. He gets that from you.”

A smile touched Evan Fairchild’s eyes. ”He gets it from you, too.”

Melody’s face instantly flushed. For some reason, the atmosphere had become charged. Even when he wasn’t physically with her, he could still make her heart flutter with ease.

”Did you call for a particular reason?”

”No, not really. I just... suddenly missed you.”

Melody was speechless.

’This is too much! I can’t breathe!’ She didn’t even dare to meet his gaze on the screen.

”Once you’re done filming this show, the house in Jansburg should be ready. We could bring Ian over to stay for a bit. What do you think?”

”After filming ends, I don’t have any other work lined up, so I don’t know if I’ll even be staying in Jansburg.”

”You’re so popular right now. I’m sure you’ll get offers once filming is over.”

”I hope so.” Melody was still thinking about terminating her contract with Stellaris. Everything else would have to wait until that was settled.

Besides, nothing was finalized with Rose yet.

’It’s probably hopeless.’

Silence stretched over the call.

Melody didn’t know what to say.

But staying on the video call in silence like this felt very awkward.

”Mr. Fairchild, was there anything else?”

”How come you haven’t asked how I’m doing?”

Melody was at a loss for words.

”So... how are you?” she asked, her voice a little stiff.

’In truth, they had only been apart for a few days, but it already felt like months. The fact was, she’d thought of him every single day.’

’She’d even dreamed about him.’

’Even though he wasn’t by her side, he was a constant presence in her mind and in her heart, following her like a shadow.’

”I’m not doing well at all,” Evan Fairchild said with deep sincerity. ”Without you here, I’ve discovered I can’t sleep well at night. I’m not used to being alone anymore. Waking up in the morning feels like something is missing. And if I can’t rest well, I can’t work properly.”

”I’ve also found that I’ve gotten used to your cooking. Nothing else tastes right, and I’ve lost my appetite. I can’t taste my food, and I can’t sleep through the night. So, you tell me. Am I doing well?”

”So, are you really planning to go this whole month without seeing me?” Evan Fairchild’s voice was tinged with hurt.
