Hogwarts: Even Voldemort Can't Stop Me From Studying

Chapter 589: Chapter 195: The Unspeakable’s Bargain

Hermione immediately gripped the Time Turner.

Although it brought her a great burden and it was exhausting to avoid her classmates’ attention to go back in time to attend classes, Hermione had already decided to drop two classes...

But when the moment came that she had to turn in the Time Turner, Hermione still felt a bit reluctant.

After a moment, under the gaze of a few people, she slowly took off the Timer from her neck and placed it in Bode’s hand.

”Well... this thing almost drove me crazy.” Hermione shrugged nonchalantly and said, ”I really don’t know how Percy managed his time so well.”

”Come with me, Miss Granger.” Professor McGonagall stood up and said, ”We need to rearrange your class schedule. Have you decided which two classes to drop?”

”Of course.” Hermione said as she followed the professor out the door, ”Muggle Studies and Divination.”

Professor McGonagall, who had never liked Professor Trelawney’s Divination class, smiled approvingly upon hearing this: ”A wise choice.”

After they left, Bode carefully put away the Time Turner and then turned his gaze to Vid:

”Mr. Vid Gray, we originally intended to take back the Time Turner you have, but Professor Dumbledore assured us that you have the ability to protect your Timer and indeed have a great need for it—I’ve heard that Mr. Johnson intended to snatch yours?”

”Yes.”

”You tricked him and those vampires with a Poppet, making him grab a fake Timer?”

”Yes.”

”May I take a look at that Poppet?” Bode’s eyes showed a hint of eagerness as he said, ”I’ve never seen a Poppet that could be mistaken for the real thing.”

”Sorry, it’s not convenient.” Vid naturally couldn’t summon Lock back and said perfunctorily, ”I sent it to run errands for me, it’s not at school.”

Instead of being disappointed by this, Bode’s mood seemed to improve.

”It can carry out tasks independently? It seems you’re not worried about it causing trouble or getting lost. Its intelligence and loyalty must give you a lot of peace of mind, and it even has a certain degree of self-preservation ability.”

”But since such a Poppet isn’t sold in Aslan’s shop, it must be your personal creation.”

Bode asked, ”If I wanted to custom order such a Poppet, how many Galleons would it cost?”

”It’s not about the Galleons.” Vid tactfully refused, ”It involves some ethical and legal issues...”

”To be honest, I’m an Unspeakable from the Ministry of Magic’s Department of Mysteries, often engaged in very dangerous magical research. If we had such a Poppet, it would greatly reduce the casualties of the Unspeakables.” Bode said seriously.

Thinking of Lock, Vid said with some hesitation, ”If it’s for research purposes, I’d be willing to help, really. But Poppets have independent thoughts and personalities, they’re like my own children to me... I don’t want to see them treated as disposable expendables.”

Noting a shift in his tone, Bode revealed a faint smile and said, ”We would provide the Poppets with the same protective measures as the Unspeakables to ensure their cores aren’t damaged. But if it’s external damage, it should be repairable, right?”

Vid nodded, ”That’s correct.”

”How much would it cost to custom order such a Poppet?” Bode asked again.

Vid calculated a bit in his mind, with no intention to save money for the Ministry of Magic and directly quoted a number.

Upon hearing it was a six-digit figure, the smile on Bode’s face froze, and his gaze seemed a bit dazed, ”This... so expensive?”

”It’s not expensive.” Vid gave him a sympathetic look and said, ”Consider the prices of those Poppets in stores... they’re only fist-sized. You want a Poppet the size of a real person, with intelligence akin to a real person. This price is just the cost price.”

Bode thought the same, but his expression still didn’t recover.

Fudge was not as invested in the Department of Mysteries research as previous Ministers of Magic, so it’s unlikely they’d allocate such a large budget to buy a ”toy.”

By comparison, increasing the number of Unspeakables and hiring a couple more real Wizards seemed cheaper.

Thinking of this, Bode’s eyes flickered, and he looked at Vid and asked, ”Mr. Gray, as an outstanding Alchemist, are you interested in joining the ranks of the Unspeakables?”

Vid remained silent for a while, seeing Bode’s thoughts almost written on his face, and repeated with disbelief, ”Unspeakables?”

”Yes.” Bode said, ”The Department of Mysteries is the only department in the Ministry of Magic that does not have to obey the Law Enforcement Department, not even the Minister of Ministry of Magic can intervene at will.”

”Because Unspeakables research the most mysterious and dangerous magic in this world. The Time Turner is one of the fruits of the Unspeakables’ research, along with thoughts, space, death, prophecy, etc. You should know, our research has a profound impact on the whole world!”

”Only by joining the Unspeakables can you study these... so, will you accept my invitation?”

Vid looked into his eyes and said slowly, ”It does sound enticing.”

”Of course!” Bode said enthusiastically, ”It’s very difficult to join the Unspeakables, you’ve won such an opportunity with your talent. Just provide a small Poppet...”

”Hold on a moment, Mr. Bode.” Vid said, ”Not to mention whether you have the authority to let me join the Unspeakables directly, I haven’t even fully understood basic magic yet, studying those cutting-edge mysterious magic is too early for me.”
