Hogwarts: Even Voldemort Can't Stop Me From Studying

Chapter 560: Chapter 178: Fortune’s Favor

”I’m sorry, Dad.”

Young wolf Karen said in a soft voice, ”I... Maurice and I were curious about Hogwarts and just wanted to take a closer look... I swear we just wanted to take a peek!”

”But on the way, Maurice suddenly pushed me aside, and he was taken away by that big lizard... I went to the cave to find him, and after escaping with great difficulty, we were surrounded by those poisonous spiders...”

”Then, a wizard suddenly appeared... it was a student, but he had a bird like a phoenix with him, and all the spiders were scared away. He took Maurice away...”

As he spoke, his voice became softer and softer, and his round head and triangular ears drooped, looking very ashamed and downcast.

The man was silent for a while, looking in the direction of Hogwarts in the distance, and said, ”Did I ever tell you not to run out of our hunting area?”

”Yes, Dad.” Karen said quietly, lowering his head.

”Did I repeatedly remind you...” The man looked at him with angry eyes and growled, ”The most dangerous area in the Forbidden Forest is near Hogwarts, and you must never approach that castle?”

”I’m sorry.” Karen said with his head hanging low, ”We... we were too curious, we thought it would be fine if we just took a peek from afar...”

”Fine?” The man roared, ”Because of this irresponsible assumption, your brother’s life is now on the line, and you tell me it was supposed to be ’fine’?”

The young wolf almost flattened himself on the ground, his face buried between his front paws, his small body trembling continuously.

The white wolf suddenly stepped in front of him, nudged the young wolf to her side with a paw, and glanced at the man, her eyes full of warning and discontent.

The man met her gaze, a muscle at the corner of his eye twitched slightly, then he turned his gaze away.

”Vera, take the kids back.” He said.

”Hoo~?” The white wolf let out a low murmur from its throat.

”I’ll stay here.” The man said fiercely, ”If that young wizard brat doesn’t bring Maurice back, I’ll find a way to rescue him myself.”

The white wolf hesitated for a moment, but then, seeing the children beside her, nodded, and several large and small wolves turned and left.

After running some distance, a girl’s voice sounded among the pack, ”So Karen, did you see the school?”

”No.” Karen said dejectedly, ”Only Maurice was taken away. I... I hid in the bushes and didn’t come out.”

”Hehe, coward.”

”Shut up, Ivy. If it were you, I don’t believe you wouldn’t be scared.”

”I’m not scared!”

”Keep it down, if the Centaurs hear us, we’re in trouble!”

”Haha, coward Rein!”

”I’m just cautious! Centaurs, Fire Dragons, Acromantulas, Merpeople, Hippogriffs, Thestrals, I’ve heard there used to be a Basilisk, and a thousand-year-old giant squid lives in the lake... Why is this school so dangerous? Aren’t the wizards living in the castle afraid?”

”Maybe they have some special way to protect themselves from dangerous creatures... Wizards have lived there for thousands of years, the Forbidden Forest is like home to them, of course they’re not afraid.”

”Do you think... Is there a magic school somewhere in the world that would accept wolves like us as students? Even though we can’t use magic, we’re smart and we can talk!”

”Dream on! Even in your dreams, something like that won’t happen!”

The children’s noisy chatter gradually faded away as they left, while the man’s sharp ears quivered with light brown fur.

Hearing the children’s hopeful words, he lowered his eyes and silently checked his weapons again.

Then, he packed his backpack, pushed away leaves and bushes, and walked towards Hogwarts, his only unscathed pants getting snagged in many places by the branches, leaving gray-green strips on the slender spikes of plants.

...

Madam Pomfrey was tending to students’ injuries in the ward, and Vid skillfully found an empty room to attend to the young wolf’s wounds.

Though wizards have all sorts of wonderful magic and magic potions, they can’t instantly heal all injuries, or else Moody wouldn’t be covered in scars and Professor Kettleburn wouldn’t have ended up with just one and a half limbs left.

After Vid had finished treating the wounds, he realized Madam Pomfrey had been standing behind him for quite some time, and he quickly greeted her.

”Nice technique.” Madam Pomfrey commended, stepping forward to take over treating the young wolf’s wounds, casually asking, ”I didn’t expect you to bring back a wolf... What caused these injuries?”

”Nobeta.” Vid replied.

Madam Pomfrey nodded, ”Of course, I should have guessed... Who else but her?”

She performed some routine checks with her magic wand, then paused slightly.

”Step back, Vid! This wolf might be unusual.”

Madam Pomfrey said as she pointed her magic wand at the young wolf, which emitted a blue-white light that completely enveloped the wolf.

A moment later, the light disappeared, the young wolf remained unchanged, but even in his sleep, he furrowed his brows, as if uncomfortable.

”He’s not an Animagus, Madam.” Vid said.

Madam Pomfrey frowned, ”But the magical energy in him is extraordinary, far beyond what an ordinary wolf would have.”

”He’s a descendant of werewolves.” Vid explained, ”He said his father is a werewolf — this kid can even speak human language.”

”That explains it, is it that family from the Forbidden Forest?” Madam Pomfrey asked knowingly.

”You all know?” Vid asked, surprised.
