Hogwarts: Even Voldemort Can't Stop Me From Studying

Chapter 569: Chapter 182: No Longer Afraid

On the pristine parchment, a feathered pen wobbled a few times, then steadied itself.

Vid stared at it intently, his fingers moving unconsciously, only to be gently tapped by Professor Morry with a Magic Wand.

”Don’t use Magic, Vid,” Professor Morry said with a smile. ”You must control it with your mind.”

Vid took a deep breath, his eyes fixed on the Quill, his brow slightly furrowing.

After a few seconds, the Quill finally began to move, scrawling a few crooked characters on the paper—

[Mentis Imperio].

”Spirit Control?” Professor Morry touched his chin and said, ”That’s actually a good name—quite different from the names you’ve chosen before.”

Vid glanced at him helplessly.

Just then, the Quill seemed to lose all strength and tumbled onto the parchment with a plop.

”A bit difficult, isn’t it?” Professor Morry pushed a cup of hot chocolate to Vid and said, ”Have a cup, it will make you feel much better.”

Vid sipped the chocolate, puzzled, ”But Professor, I’ve seen someone use a Shorthand Quill before, and it seemed effortless for her. Why is it so challenging for me to control?”

”Hmm... There are many reasons.”

Professor Morry said, ”First, your Magic isn’t perfect, and the connection between you and the Quill is also very fragile. You need more time for careful research. A high-quality Shorthand Quill can more quickly identify the owner’s thoughts and is less easily disturbed by external interference.”

Vid nodded, realizing that his first attempt at making a Shorthand Quill wasn’t perfect; the Magic Rune Circuits felt somewhat stagnant.

”Secondly, the Wizard you saw definitely used blood or saliva to strengthen the connection with the Quill. It’s a shortcut method. Although fast, I don’t recommend using it—shortcuts can make one lazy.”

”Moreover, the longer any Magic Item is used, the closer the connection to the Wizard, regardless of the strength of the Magic upon it.”

”So Vid, even if you haven’t infused the item with special thoughts, you should treat it as family, a partner, a comrade, not merely a tool to be abandoned at will—when you do, you’ll undoubtedly reap rewards from it.”

Vid held the Quill in his hand, nodded, and said, ”I remember, Professor.”

He thought of the Black Family’s old house.

When Sirius first returned, it was due to Regulus’s funeral, forced by circumstances, still filled with hatred for the house.

That house, too, resisted its master, filthy everywhere, even the clothes hanging in the wardrobe attempted to strangle people.

But once its master was present, it was merely a fitting Magic Robe.

However, perhaps Kreacher finally agreed to cooperate, or Sirius gradually accepted his origin, due to memories and guilt for his brother, feeling a slight recognition for the family, somehow the old house’s raging resistance finally calmed, becoming quiet.

”Alright, Magic research can be postponed; you might as well look at the remaining Quills.”

Professor Morry, seeming concerned that the unsuccessful work might discourage Vid, summoned two boxes, introducing various magical Quills within.

”Contract Quill, made from Elf hair. Contracts written with it have stronger magical binding power and were popular among Wizards in ancient times.”

Professor Morry took out a pale golden Quill and said, ”But nowadays, with more effective and convenient Contract Magic, this Quill is scarcely known.”

”Memory Quill, it can record every word it has ever written and then reproduce it. Judges and recorders of the Wizengamot use this Quill.”

”Oh, and this one... made from a small tuft of hair from the center of a Unicorn’s head, writings created with it can calm a person’s mood. But if they are lies, they cannot be recorded, making it extremely rare.”

Professor Morry continued introducing other kinds of Quills.

Rare materials often create unique effects, like a Quill made from Sphinx feathers that can automatically provide answers to most questions, a dream Quill for students.

For an Alchemy Master, these are merely toys to pass the time during leisure. Outside, each one could fetch a staggering high price.

”I will slowly teach you these, Vid, but don’t be confined to my teachings.”

Professor Morry casually rested his hands on his belly and laughed, ”In the Magic World, knowledge beyond our understanding always exists.”

”For instance, at Hogwarts, there’s a Quill that even amazes me—the Pen of Acceptance.”

”Pen of Acceptance?” Vid asked.

”Yes,” Professor Morry responded, ”it can detect children with magical talent and automatically write the child’s name in the Book of Admission—including you, Vid.”

Professor Morry pointed at Vid and smiled, ”This Pen’s sensing range covers all of the British Isles and can detect even the faintest Magic Fluctuation, accurately identifying it even if the child’s parents haven’t noticed.”

”Some children are written into Hogwarts’ admission list upon birth; others display potential around age eleven. Regardless, the Pen of Acceptance ensures no child with magical talent is overlooked.”
