This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Du Heng looked at Gong Daoyang who had come to his side and let out a sigh of relief, shaking his head gently. ”I’m fine, Gong. No one got hit. The money they scammed should be in this suitcase, along with the counterfeit medicines in the trunk of the car.”

Gong Daoyang glanced sideways at the situation in the car. After getting a clear view, he patted Du Heng’s shoulder. ”Thanks, brother. You’ve done me a great favor. We’ve received several reports recently, and we’ve notified all the village heads, but villagers were still being deceived.”

He let out a long breath and said, ”Alright, let’s take them all back to the police station for investigation.”

At this moment, the woman who had spent almost 8,000 yuan jumped out. ”Are you going to take our money? You’re not returning it to us?”

Gong Daoyang, not knowing the full situation, turned to everyone and said seriously, ”We will definitely return your money, but we need to investigate and compile a statistical report first.”

The woman was unhappy and stomped her foot. ”That won’t do! Just now, President Du promised us that the money would be refunded once you arrived.”

Gong Daoyang looked at Du Heng with a hint of confusion.

Du Heng himself wasn’t sure if his promise aligned with the police station’s case-handling procedures. He could only recount the earlier events to Gong Daoyang. ”...It was like this: I saw they were about to grab the money in the suitcase, trying to take back their shares. I was worried things would get out of hand, so I told them that once you arrived, we would calculate everything clearly and return it to them.”

Gong Daoyang nodded with understanding. He thought for a moment and said, ”That should work. We can handle it on-site, and then have them sign for it.”

He then turned to call a colleague over. ”Let’s process this right here. Find out the truth and return the scammed money to the villagers in full. Remember, you must do a good job with the records and registration. We can’t shortchange the ordinary people by even a single cent.”

The colleague nodded in agreement. He also knew the unspoken part of Gong Daoyang’s words: not a single cent more could be given out either.

When villagers get involved in financial disputes, many try to inflate or falsify information to get more compensation. In such a chaotic situation, some might have secretly taken a few bottles of counterfeit medicine or might lie about buying more. If the numbers didn’t add up, it would be a huge hassle.

Upon hearing Gong Daoyang’s words, everyone relaxed and stopped making a fuss, quietly waiting for the police to begin their work.

After giving his instructions, Gong Daoyang looked around and shouted, ”Where is the village head? Village head, come over here!”

He shouted for a while, but the village head didn’t appear.

However, the other woman who had been arguing earlier said, ”Sir, her father-in-law is the village head. He went into the city this morning. Not long after he left, this group of scammers arrived.” As she spoke, she pointed an accusatory finger at the woman who had bought four boxes of counterfeit medicine.

The insinuation in her words was too strong. Without much thought, everyone understood she meant the village head was in cahoots with this gang, and his daughter-in-law was acting as a shill.

The village head’s daughter-in-law also understood. She immediately flew into a rage, lunging to scratch the other woman’s face. ”I’ll tear your filthy mouth apart!”

Gong Daoyang’s expression turned stern. He grabbed the furious woman and pulled her back. ”What do you think you’re doing? Do you still want your money or not? All of you, stand properly!”

His sharp reprimand immediately subdued both women.

”Your father-in-law... did he tell you to call us if you saw people selling medicine in the village?” Gong Daoyang stared coldly at the village head’s daughter-in-law.

The village head’s daughter-in-law stiffened her neck, meeting Gong Daoyang’s gaze defiantly. ”How would I know about that? He’s the head of our household. Why would he tell a mere woman like me about such things?”

Gong Daoyang didn’t press further. Dealing with a rural woman in her forties throwing a tantrum, without strong evidence, would undoubtedly leave them in a messy situation.

Because Du Heng had quickly secured the suitcase of money and ensured the counterfeit medicine in the car wasn’t disturbed, it didn’t take long to verify the sales and the amounts.

”Clinic Director, after verification, everything has been clearly registered. A total of eight people bought medicine and paid, with twelve boxes of counterfeit drugs sold, involving a sum of 23,706 yuan. The quantity sold and the amount of money match perfectly. All the illicit funds are in the small suitcase.”

Gong Daoyang took the registration form and glanced at it. ”Once the statistics are clear, have the victims line up to get their money back. Count it in front of them, have them sign for it, and make sure their personal information is clearly recorded.”

”Understood.” The reporting police officer turned and left.

The village head’s daughter-in-law and the other woman stopped arguing and quickly squeezed their way towards the officer, afraid they would be too late to get their money.

Just as these people dispersed, Liu Gong, who had been busy with interrogations, walked over.

He first nodded at Du Heng, then turned to Gong Daoyang. ”Clinic Director, these people have no backbone. I barely started questioning them, and they spilled everything.”

”It’s good that they spilled. Tell me, about today’s incident, did they collude with the village head or anyone else from this village?” This was Gong Daoyang’s main concern.

He had already alerted the village heads and the Director Party Secretaries of the various production brigades to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately. Unexpectedly, it happened again today. And the village head’s timing was too coincidental; he left right before the scammers arrived. He hadn’t gotten tough with the village head’s daughter-in-law earlier, but that didn’t mean he wasn’t suspicious.

”Based on the interrogations of several individuals and cross-referencing their statements, we can confirm that the leader of the group that came today is a man named Wu Zhouzhou. There are five of them in total, all employees of the Jinzhou XX Rehabilitation Center. And they have four other such teams.”

As Liu Gong finished speaking, Gong Daoyang’s eyes narrowed. ”Four more? Did you find out where these four teams are? And where is this XX Rehabilitation Center you mentioned? Who are the people involved?”

”We’ve already found out.”

”That’s good.”

”After they enter a village, they approach the village head or the village doctor, promising 400 yuan for each bottle sold. I found their contact records and records of money transfers to village heads or village doctors. Among them is the head of Jiangjia Village.”

Hearing this, Gong Daoyang’s eyes nearly bulged out of their sockets with rage. ”****! I knew it! I warned them all, yet not a single one called me, and villagers are still getting scammed. So it really was these ungrateful people stirring up trouble from within!”

He strode over to the police officer who was returning the money, pulled out his handcuffs, and with a CLICK! CLICK! arrested the village head’s daughter-in-law.

This sudden action startled the people nearby, who quickly backed away, staring in terror at the ’silver bracelets.’ The village head’s daughter-in-law was also stunned. After a moment of shock, she began to scream, ”The police are arresting people indiscriminately! Come and see! The police aren’t giving back the money, and now they’re arresting people! There’s no justice!”

While yelling, she started to sit down on the ground, preparing to throw a full-blown tantrum.
