This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Chapter 224: 224 life gate fire

You Fang didn’t state her intentions outright, but she clearly expressed her desire to live a peaceful life. Although it might seem pragmatic, it was understandable given she was only in her twenties.

Du Heng breathed a sigh of relief. A clear attitude was a good thing; they couldn’t afford to repeat the previous incident.

The man was overjoyed, almost moved to tears. However, his eyes only reddened slightly before he quickly reined in his emotions.

”Since both of you are willing to give this relationship another shot, shall we have a serious discussion?” Du Heng asked, turning to them. They both remained silent.

Left with no choice, Du Heng spoke again, ”Do you mind if we continue this discussion inside? Talking in the yard isn’t ideal, don’t you think?”

Yang Wei lowered his head and led the way, pulling back the curtain of the main house to invite Du Heng in.

The woman dusted off her clothes, wiped away her tears, and followed them inside, even pouring Du Heng a cup of water.

Du Heng looked at You Fang in surprise. She turned out to be quite a dutiful woman.

Once they were seated, Du Heng turned to Yang Wei. ”Do you need your wife to step out for a moment?”

After a moment’s thought, Yang Wei gently shook his head.

At this point, he’d already lost all face; there was nothing left to hide.

Seeing Yang Wei’s indication, Du Heng regained his professional composure and immediately got down to business. ”Describe your specific situation to me.”

But when it came to discussing his condition, Yang Wei found it difficult to speak, hesitating for a long time without saying anything.

You Fang could no longer contain herself. For the sake of her own future happiness, she blurted everything out in a rush. Her account was so damn detailed and vivid, it made Du Heng feel a little awkward.

Intense!

The man’s condition was indeed serious; he couldn’t even achieve penetration.

”Have you seen a doctor?”

”Yes, both traditional Chinese and Western medicine, but neither yielded any improvements.”

Du Heng furrowed his brows. ”Do you have the prescriptions for any of the Chinese herbal medicines? Let me take a look.”

You Fang turned and began rummaging through a drawer.

Seeing You Fang searching, Du Heng said to Yang Wei, ”In the meantime, place your hand on the coffee table. Let me check your pulse.”

You Fang found the prescriptions. Seeing Du Heng taking Yang Wei’s pulse, she fell silent, holding the papers, and sat back down with a complex expression.

Yang Wei, too, had a mixed look of worry and anticipation.

After completing all the checks, Du Heng didn’t rush to speak. He leaned back, taking a moment to think things over.

Yang Wei’s condition was characterized by an excess of life gate fire. The life gate fire is also known as phase fire. According to theory, simply reducing the phase fire should solve the problem.

However, phase fire doesn’t operate independently; it interacts with the sovereign fire.

The heart fire is also known as the sovereign fire. If the heart fire is strong, the phase fire will obey it, and authority rests with the sovereign fire. If the sovereign fire weakens, the heart fire will be overwhelmed by the phase fire, and authority will shift to the phase fire.

Thus, if the sovereign fire is active, the phase fire assumes control. The heart would want to carefully guard its essence, but the phase fire would have already been secretly sent out the door. And just like that, it’s over!

At this point in his syndrome differentiation analysis, Du Heng gained a clear understanding.

To solve Yang Wei’s problem, he only needed to nourish the heart fire. He shouldn’t try to reduce the life gate fire, because reducing the life gate fire would also weaken the heart fire.

Having figured it out, he felt more confident. Taking the prescriptions from You Fang, Du Heng looked them over.

He disregarded the Western medicine; it was always the same few drugs, just a matter of dosage.

But the traditional Chinese medicine prescription was interesting.

Usually, in such cases, people assumed the condition was due to kidney deficiency and would opt to reinforce the kidney and consolidate the essence.

As expected, there were such prescriptions in the stack—those meant to nourish kidney yang and enrich blood and essence.

It was indeed a formula to warm and nourish, but it didn’t address the actual condition. It might work as a general tonic, but for treatment, it was completely off the mark.

Then, he picked up another prescription. Scrutinizing the medicinal combinations, Du Heng’s brow furrowed deeply.

”Have you taken the medicine from this prescription?” Du Heng handed it to Yang Wei.

Yang Wei glanced at the doctor’s signature on the prescription, taking a moment to recall. ”This is the prescription from the XX Men’s Health Hospital. It was damn costly; each dose cost me 1,300 yuan! And it was useless! After taking just two doses, I lost all response down there. It scared the hell out of me, so I didn’t dare take any more.”

”It’s a good thing you didn’t continue taking it.”

Du Heng sighed.

Recently, as his skills had improved, he had encountered many patients with different unfortunate experiences.

There was Bao Mi, who had swapped ginseng with codonopsis in his father’s prescription.

There was also Wang Shiyuan, who prescribed conservatively, aiming for no harm even if there was no benefit.

But the prescription he held today was undeniably wrong. If Yang Wei had continued taking it, he would have ended up disabled, if not dead—essentially a eunuch who still possessed male anatomy.

In traditional Chinese medicine, if the syndrome differentiation is incorrect, the prescribed medication can be lethal.

If a practitioner knows their diagnostic skills are lacking and their syndrome differentiation isn’t accurate, they might resort to a safe, nourishing prescription that does no harm.

But prescribing the wrong medication like this... such a person should really be locked away. Leaving them at large would only harm others.

In Yang Wei’s case, Du Heng’s syndrome differentiation result was that he only needed to nourish the heart fire, not reduce the life gate fire, because reducing the phase fire also reduces the sovereign fire. Therefore, replenishing the heart fire sufficiently to let it regain control would naturally resolve the issue.

This prescription, however, did the opposite. It didn’t nourish the heart fire but directly sought to reduce the life gate fire.

Yang Wei’s heart fire was already weak to begin with. After two doses, his life gate fire was reduced, but the fire in his heart palace was completely extinguished.

Without heart fire, even if a person doesn’t die, they would be plagued by illnesses, becoming a walking corpse devoid of impulse or desire.

If this isn’t harming people, what is?

A typical case of knowing the ’what’ but not the ’why’.

You couldn’t say the practitioner was entirely incompetent, as they had recognized the excessive life gate fire.

But you couldn’t say they were competent either, as they didn’t understand the relationship between phase fire and sovereign fire.

These half-baked practitioners are the most dangerous.

They can treat illnesses, but this breeds overconfidence. Eventually, they dare to treat any disease and use any medicine, losing all sense of reverence. The final outcome is harming others and themselves.

Harming themselves was one thing; they could just compensate with money and be done with it. But what about when they harmed others? Could their conscience be at peace?

Du Heng, despite his varied expertise, was extremely cautious every time he needed to differentiate a disease syndrome or prepare a prescription. He remembered Wu Buwei’s constant reminder to harbor a sense of awe. But situations like this... sigh, it was hard to put into words.

Seeing the rather grim look on Du Heng’s face, Yang Wei’s heart pounded. He cautiously asked, ”President Du, am I beyond help?”

Du Heng snapped back to the present. Looking at the worried Yang Wei, he suddenly smiled. ”I was just thinking about something else. It’s not about your problem.”

He pushed the prescription on the table forward slightly. ”I have a solution for your problem. However, I need to tell you upfront: because it will involve some valuable Medicine Ingredients, a long course of medication, and a relatively large quantity of doses, it will be quite expensive. Can you accept that?”

Hearing that Du Heng could cure his illness, Yang Wei no longer cared about the cost. He nodded eagerly, afraid Du Heng might change his mind in the next second.

He had already taken medicine costing over a thousand yuan per dose for his treatment; why would he balk at the expense now?

In his current state, even if it were an Immortal Pill, he would sell everything he owned to afford it.
