This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Chapter 241: 241 Early development

Du Heng hurriedly asked, ”Has your father always been eating like this?”

”Almost. During my school years, our family’s financial situation was a bit tight, so he would eat it only once every one or two weeks. But since I started working, he basically eats a bowl every two or three days, saying he feels weak and dizzy without it.”

With a blood pressure of over 200, and eating fried chicken every two or three days, feeling dizzy and weak without it, could it be that his body has already adapted to this high-pressure state and is no longer suitable for a low-pressure life?

”Dr. Yu, can we say the patient’s condition is hypertensive tolerance? A twenty-year history of hypertension, a long-term greasy diet, no use of antihypertensive drugs, and no adverse reactions—it all seems consistent.”

Yu Haiting hesitated and nodded slightly.

Some people have long-term high blood pressure, and their baseline blood pressure is at a relatively high level. It’s possible for them to develop hypertensive tolerance; he knew this wasn’t an issue. However, he had never seen a patient with a blood pressure as high as 200.

If the patient had a tolerant constitution, keeping his blood pressure stable would be sufficient. But a reading of 200 was too high, and Yu Haiting didn’t dare make that decision, which was why he had called Du Heng.

While Yu Haiting hesitated, Du Heng performed a simple examination on the patient. Apart from a slightly rapid pulse, the patient had no other issues and appeared quite healthy.

He stood up, hesitated for a moment, and then said, ”Dr. Yu, let’s stop the patient’s medication for now. We’ll let his blood pressure return to its previous levels and closely monitor his condition. Then, we can make adjustments based on the actual situation. What do you think?”

Yu Haiting actually thought the same but hadn’t dared to make the decision himself. Now, with Du Heng’s approval, he nodded in agreement. He immediately called over Xiao Li, who was following behind him, and had him stop the IV drip that was being prepared for the patient.

He then spoke to the patient’s family member and led her to his office.

The family member noticed the doctor wasn’t discussing things in the hospital room but was instead taking her to his office. Thinking about her father’s current condition, she began to panic a little and quickly asked, ”Doctor, is there something wrong with my father?”

Yu Haiting quickly explained, ”Your father is fine. Based on his previous treatment and the information you’ve provided, we preliminarily believe he has hypertensive tolerance. We need to see if his condition improves when we allow his blood pressure to return to its previous level. If the dizziness and other symptoms disappear, we can let him maintain this state. You’ll just need to monitor him closely, ensuring his blood pressure doesn’t fluctuate significantly. Then, there shouldn’t be any major issues.”

The family member let out a sigh of relief. ”It’s good that he’s okay, good that he’s okay.”

Yu Haiting then said, ”I asked you to come here because I wanted to ask about your daughter’s condition.”

The family member’s recently calmed heart immediately tensed up again. ”What’s wrong with my daughter?”

”Let me ask a few questions. How old is your daughter?”

”Nine years old, what’s wrong?”

”Don’t worry. What about her height and weight?”

The family member thought for a moment, then said uncertainly, ”She’s 1.55 meters tall, and her weight is around 67 kilograms. But recently, she’s been eating a lot with my father, so I estimate she’s probably 70 kilograms now.”

Yu Haiting paused. ”Has your daughter started menstruating?”

The family member was even more puzzled and surprised. ”I don’t know about that.”

Yu Haiting frowned. ”You don’t know? As a mother, you don’t know?”

The family member hurriedly explained, ”Her father and I divorced when she was four, and my mother has been helping me take care of her ever since. I’m usually busy with work, so I really haven’t paid attention to that.”

She anxiously took a step forward. ”Doctor, she’s only nine. She couldn’t have started her period, could she?”

”Don’t worry, please sit down,” Yu Haiting said, reassuring her. ”Under normal circumstances, it is indeed unlikely. However, based on my observation of your daughter just now, she already exhibits clear female secondary characteristics, which is why I asked.”

”She just eats well with her grandfather, and she loves meat herself. She’s probably just a little overweight, isn’t she? There shouldn’t be any other problems, right?”

Yu Haiting chose his words carefully. ”If a girl develops breasts between the ages of 8 and 11, it’s medically termed early puberty, also known as precocious puberty.”

The family member frowned slightly. ”That’s not a big deal, is it? Many little girls are like that these days. Children eat well now, get good nutrition, and develop well. Isn’t that normal?”

This parent is completely lacking in common sense. So unqualified.

Yu Haiting sat up a bit straighter and explained, ”First, girls who develop early initially grow faster and appear taller than their peers. However, due to this early sexual development, the large amount of estrogen also promotes premature fusion of the epiphyses. This means their height spurt occurs earlier, but their final adult height will likely be less than that of children who develop normally.

”Secondly, while her body is maturing, her actual age and psychological maturity don’t align. This can easily lead to psychological problems for the child.

”Thirdly, precocious puberty can lead to age-inappropriate sexual urges. Since the child is still young, she might easily be led astray and engage in behaviors that are unacceptable to both the parents and the child herself.”

After explaining, Yu Haiting looked at the mother seriously. ”Now that you’ve heard all this, do you still think it’s a normal thing?”

This time, the mother was completely flustered.

She had grown accustomed to it all. In fact, apart from worrying about her daughter being overweight, she had sometimes even felt quite pleased that her daughter was so much taller than her peers.

But she didn’t expect such serious consequences.

”So... so... Doctor, what should we do now?”

”I suggest you take your daughter to the Provincial Women and Children’s Hospital for a comprehensive check-up. If it’s caught early, it can still be managed.”

He took out his phone, found a number, and wrote it on a piece of paper. ”I have a classmate who works at the Provincial Women and Children’s Hospital. This is her phone number. You can call her directly, and she’ll tell you what to do.”

The mother hurriedly took the paper from Yu Haiting, clutching it tightly in her hand. She thanked him repeatedly and then quickly walked towards the hospital room.

Yu Haiting also followed out and went to the office of the Chinese Medicine Department.

Du Heng glanced at Yu Haiting as he entered. ”Have you spoken with the family member?”

”Yes. She wasn’t aware of her daughter’s issue.”

Du Heng paused his work and leaned back. ”Life is better now, and children certainly don’t lack food. As a result, some parents can’t distinguish between a child being over-nourished and one developing prematurely.”

Yu Haiting also sighed and shook his head. ”Life is so fast-paced these days, and parents are always busy. As long as a child isn’t complaining of pain and can eat and drink, parents tend to assume everything is fine.”

”It can’t be helped. Parents being busy is one factor. Another is that most families have only one precious child, so they give them all the best food. However, they often don’t consider that some foods simply aren’t suitable for young children.”
