The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Song Ci is truly blessed, and there’s no one in the Beijing Circle who would disagree. The old sentiments are not worth mentioning now; with four generations all under one roof, and children and grandchildren each excelling, if this isn’t fortune, what is?

In the household of the Official, raising one outstanding and clever successor is already considered great, but the Song Family, from top to bottom, all have something to boast about, how can one not envy?

Oh, let’s set the men aside first; even the wives who married into the family are fertile. That truly makes those families with sparse offspring cry tears from the corners of their mouths in envy.

Look at one’s own family, then look at the Song Family, generation after generation with someone to follow, even including those still in the womb, there are already five great-grandchildren.

Truly, comparing people can lead to disappointment.

Some people praise Song Ci and her family, but at a banquet, when many people gather, there are bound to be voices of dissent, such as from the Fan Family faction opposed to the Song Family’s party.

”...In the past, it was said that Madam, you have fallen into a nest of fortune, holding an Imperial Decree, with outstanding children, and intelligent and quick-witted grandchildren. Now it seems the second Madam is not much different,” Madam Bai, who only observes the actions of the Fan Family, chuckled while looking at Jiang Shi, ”Your son’s prospects are boundless, and now your daughter-in-law also brings honor, two blossoms blooming. You indeed enjoy your son’s fortune, and in the future, you just play with grandchildren, waiting for Young Master Song San to earn you another Imperial Decree.”

This remark carried implications.

Everyone present knew well that Song Lingsu resigned halfway through his official career, making it impossible to earn Madam Song an Imperial Decree.

Those who were aware took a sip of tea or pressed a handkerchief to their lips, their eyes glancing over at Madam Song.

Madam Song had a stroke out of anger the year Song Lingsu resigned, aging considerably, although seeing her clever grandson provided some comfort, it didn’t mean the wound healed completely.

She had a life full of pride, and had high hopes for her eldest son, but this particular son carved a wound on her heart, the resignation was decided even before she could express her opinion, a wound that could never fully heal.

Now, Madam Bai ripped open that bloody wound again, making Madam Song’s smile stiffen, a thread of coldness passing through her eyes.

Jiang Shi was also somewhat annoyed; attending a banquet was fine, but so many words were spoken with the intention to irritate.

She smiled and said, ”Our Song Family, especially we juniors, have been guided by mother and sister-in-law to do good deeds sincerely, which naturally brings good fortune. Look at our flourishing family and you’ll understand. So, Madam Bai, you need not say much, if you want to have blessings, do more good deeds and accumulate fortune and virtue for your children.”

Madam Song’s expression softened a little.

Madam Bai sighed while pulling her lips, ”The second Madam speaks rightly. Ah, but human beings are not perfect in every way, there are always times of misfortune, and then all those blessings can become ineffective.”

Jiang Shi scowled.

”Madam Bai, perhaps you’re stirred by the long-standing childlessness of Consort Bai, which brings back sad memories.” Song Ci glanced at her, smiling superficially and said, ”No worries, today’s banquet includes a dish called Date for Precious Son, a dessert made with red dates and longan meat. You can take some home for Consort Bai to partake in our good fortune? Whether or not the blessing sticks is another matter, but a little taste won’t hurt.”

Madam Bai’s face turned green; her daughter, promised to Queen Zhou, had not had good news since her miscarriage, and now was without favor, yet Song Ci needles her so?

Just as she was about to react, the other began to speak again.

Song Ci then turned to Nanny and said, ”Seems I’ve forgotten to feed the parrot in the courtyard, remind the people below to feed it properly. Can’t let it go hungry, otherwise it just chirps all day long.”

Everyone: ”...”
