The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Song Ci, after checking on the newborn, returned to Chunhui Hall, leaned against the large pillow, and counted on her fingers.

”I have four great-grandchildren now, no wait, including Su’er’s wife’s baby, that’s five. Four generations under one roof, Nanny Gong, even if I were to go now, there’s no regret, is there?”

Nanny Gong replied helplessly, ”If you don’t keep talking about such things, then your talk of four generations is something that old servants like me greatly rejoice in. You should aim for five generations under one roof, by then in this entire Capital, everyone would envy you.”

Song Ci glanced at her, ”You are even more greedy than I am, old nanny. People should be content to find happiness.”

Nanny Gong responded, ”Regardless, I do not enjoy hearing you speak dispiriting words.”

Song Ci chuckled, ”Even if you don’t enjoy it, you’ve been listening to me say this for years and yet King Yan hasn’t come to collect me.”

Nanny Gong felt a pang of sadness; though she didn’t speak it aloud, she knew in her heart that this old lady was already halfway through heaven’s gate.

She changed the topic, laughing, ”Shall Nan Shan read you the letter that Young Master sent back yesterday?”

Just like Buhui once said, little Brother Dan showed medical talent from a young age, familiar with herbs and enjoyed diagnosing with Lin Qing and Nan Shan.

Song Ci had discussed with Song Zhiyuan, and when he was six, they sent him to Buhui to study medicine. It has been a year now, and he often sends letters to Song Ci.

Actually, if Song Ci were not in poor health, little Brother Dan would have wanted to take her to Buhui to recuperate, but it’s impossible because his father, the first one, wouldn’t allow it.

”Read, read, he’s amusing old monk Buhui with his antics,” Song Ci laughed.

Brother Dan has talent in medicine, but his nature is rebellious; he doesn’t heed even his father’s word, let alone others. Only Song Ci could keep him in line.

Nanny Gong asked Nan Shan to bring the letter to be read.

Halfway through the reading, Song Zhiyuan arrived.

”Just returned from court?” Song Ci smiled, gesturing towards the Arhat bed for him to sit.

Song Zhiyuan, with his beard, has been in a high position for many years, and time hasn’t left much on him except a slight air of a sage, not yet fifty but with the look of one who is transcendent. His aura of authority is increasingly present.

Song Ci suspected that when this man’s clever son grows old, he might go down the path of cultivation.

”Court has been dismissed for quite a while, but I was loitering in the palace; the Crown Princess Consort has been decided.”

Song Ci then remembered that today was the Crown Prince’s selection of consorts.

Speaking of the Crown Prince, he is seventeen now; since he was designated, many have been eyeing the position, yet Emperor Chu kept delaying, and now finally, it’s settled?

”Is it the one from Duke Ying Mansion?”

Song Zhiyuan nodded, ”It’s the legitimate granddaughter of the Duke Ying, and the Crown Prince’s Concubine and good attendants have been selected too.”

He listed a few names.

Song Ci widened her eyes, ”What, even someone from Zi’s family was chosen?”

Song Zhiyuan nodded.

Song Ci frowned, Song Zi’s second daughter is quite beautiful. In the past, Song Zhiqing had this idea, having this niece as a candidate.

Yet Song Zi and her husband Lin Guangxiong were rather laid-back about raising the girl, observing talents but not finding a suitable son-in-law. This time, the selection for Eastern Palace concubine required daughters of fifth rank officials and above to be presented; they thought nothing of it, just putting a name for formality.

But now, the attendant position has really fallen to them?

Has Liu Chengyin succeeded?
