The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

At the end of June, Song Ci organized a birthday celebration for Dan Ge’er, not a grand event, but invitations were sent to quite a few people, including relatives from the Prime Minister’s Mansion such as Song Zi and Song Ruqian, the Madam Guan and her daughter from Duke Dingguo Mansion, Princess Anping, and even the long-unseen Old Madam Wei.

The auspicious hour for the celebration had not yet arrived, and now everyone was gathered at Song Ci’s Chunhui Hall chatting.

”You truly have good fortune; now you’ve added another golden grandson, congratulations to you,” Princess Anping smiled and congratulated Song Ci.

Song Ci smiled and replied, ”Congratulations to you too. I see a hint of happiness in your brows, perhaps you too...

Princess Anping pursed her lips with a smile and said, ”You certainly have a penetrating eye; Shou Yang also has joyful news.”

”Really?” Song Ci exclaimed, ”This is truly wonderful news, how many months along is she?”

Princess Anping responded with a smile, ”She’s just become stable with the pregnancy, otherwise, we wouldn’t speak prematurely.”

”Indeed, indeed, in any case, it’s worth raising a glass for this. You know, the Commandery Princess Shou Yang has been married for less than a year and is already expecting, which shows how harmonious the young couple is.”

Everyone also stood up to congratulate Princess Anping.

Princess Anping smiled and said, ”Congratulations, in the future, I will surely invite everyone to a full month celebration feast.”

”Are you at ease now?” Song Ci smiled and patted her hand.

Princess Anping nodded, after all her son-in-law is missing a hand; though she was mentally prepared, she feared her daughter might resent him, causing disharmony.

Now, with joyful news so soon, it indicates their days together are indeed harmonious.

Song Ci turned to Guan Shuyan, ”You girl, why do you seem thinner?”

Guan Shuyan touched her face and replied, ”Entering summer brings its difficulties, my appetite is somewhat poor.”

”There are floods in the south, this silly child worries about Huaiyan, and doesn’t eat or drink,” Madam Guan chided with a laugh.

Guan Shuyan blushed and was embarrassed, ”Mother!”

What kind of mother is this, undermining her daughter in front of so many people, truly mortifying!

Song Ci said, ”Don’t worry, it’s likely due to the disaster that messages are not getting through.”

Guan Shuyan nodded.

Madam Guan sighed, ”This year’s weather is strange, floods in the south, drought in the north, the common people are suffering.”

Whenever disaster strikes, it is the people at the bottom who suffer the most.

”Indeed, these days I have seen many beggars and refugees on the street, and many are forced to sell their entire family,” Song Zi added from the sidelines.

Song Ci said, ”With natural disasters, the country is troubled and the people suffer even more. Many are displaced, driven from their homeland, being able to sell the entire family at one place is slightly better; being separated means family bonds are torn.”

Everyone fell silent for a moment, and the atmosphere grew somber.

”Now both Consort Xiao and Consort Wu are hosting various gatherings to raise charity funds,” Old Madam Wei chuckled, ”Although when I attended once, it felt more like a gathering of the elite.”

Speaking, she glanced at Princess Anping, realizing she was an Imperial Princess, those consorts were also of the Imperial Family, quickly stood and curtsied: ”Princess, this servant spoke too much, truly deserving of death.”

”It’s alright, you’re not wrong,” Princess Anping said, ”Their poetry meetings and tea gatherings certainly have their purposes.”

Old Madam Wei, feeling embarrassed, dared not say more.

Song Ci smiled and said, ”Actually it doesn’t matter, regardless of their motives, if they can raise funds to help these disaster-stricken commoners, then it’s beneficial, key is the benefit to people.”
