The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

The commotion involving Lu Shi was not small, and when it reached Song Ci’s ears, her expression was somewhat displeased. It was not aimed at Lu Shi, but at those servants.

”Following those in power is not uncommon, but to neglect and underestimate when a child is ill, and one who is not very clever at that, reveals their character. Inform the steward that these people should no longer be employed, and along with their families, banish them all.”

Nanny was somewhat surprised, ”All banished?”

”That’s right, all of them,” Song Ci said. ”Once their duties are removed, they will naturally harbor resentment, and with family members employed within the mansion, who knows if they would secretly harbor malicious intent, which would be indefensible. We cannot take such risks. Banish the whole family to keep things clean, and take advantage of the spring to select some people of clear backgrounds and clever minds. It will also serve as a warning to others.”

”The Madam has great foresight.”

Song Ci gave a wry smile, ”It’s not that I have foresight, just that a person’s heart can breed malice in just a moment.”

The malice in a person’s heart often arises in an instant.

Nanny pondered over it carefully and found it to be true, saying, ”In that case, a report should be made to Madam.”

”Hmm.”

Speak of Cao Cao, and Cao Cao comes.

Madam Song, along with Madam Jiang, walked in together. After saluting Song Ci, she smiled and asked, ”Did I hear someone calling the daughter-in-law?”

”You’ve come at the right time.” Song Ci repeated what she had just said to Nanny.

Madam Song was somewhat surprised as well. After all, such behavior of clinging to power and servants bullying their masters was not uncommon; usually, it would only result in a deduction of monthly wages or reassignment. However, Song Ci was so ruthless as to punish the whole family for one person’s mistake.

”Isn’t that too severe? These people’s family members also serve in various places; such a large implication might unsettle people’s hearts,” Madam Song hesitated slightly.

Song Ci frowned slightly and said, ”It doesn’t matter if people are unsettled; it serves as a way to see which servant is restless or makes noise, allowing us to handle them as well. Gu Shi, there are many people in the world who can serve as servants. If one batch is gone, there is another batch to replace them. A mansion will not stop functioning because of a lack of someone.”

Madam Song’s face turned slightly red.

”This punishment is severe, but it allows those serving in the mansion to know that the Song Family has strict rules. A strict family atmosphere allows the Family Head and Lady to have peace of mind and prevents chaos, avoiding a family disgrace. Being harsh when necessary serves as a warning to others, do you understand?”

Madam Song stood up slightly and, with a red face, said, ”The daughter-in-law will remember mother’s teachings.”

In front of Jiang Shi, Song Ci did not say more, to avoid embarrassing Madam Song, and changed the topic: ”Why have you come over?”

Madam Song smiled, ”It’s nothing else, just that tomorrow there is a banquet at Prince Zhou Mansion for the concubine, and they’ve sent an invitation. I wanted to ask if mother wishes to join the lively event.”

Song Ci was momentarily confused, ”Prince Zhou Mansion’s concubine? Who?”

Everyone’s smiling faces stiffened slightly, and Nanny immediately reminded, ”Have you forgotten? It’s Miss Wen.”

Song Ci was momentarily dazed. Who was Miss Wen again?

Nanny saw her dazed expression and felt her heart sink, looking towards Madam Song.

Madam Song and Jiang Shi exchanged a glance, also astonished, and jokingly said, ”Mother must be busy with important matters. It is the eldest daughter of Governor Wen of Jiangnan, who was designated as Prince Zhou’s concubine during last year’s Longevity Festival. Tomorrow is the joyful day.”
