Hidden Marriage, Overbearing Love: Mr! Please Let Me Go

Chapter 1005: Chapter 1009: Stubborn Endurance

With a bang, Xia Qingqian’s body trembled slightly, involuntarily shivering intensely. She dared not lift her head, only lowered her gaze to watch her toes, waiting for his next rebuke.

But after waiting for a long time, she saw no movement from him. She only heard his increasingly rapid breathing. She suddenly lifted her gaze, looking at him. The tightly furrowed brows deepened, and even her breathing paused for a few seconds.

”...Young Master.” She softly whispered, stepping forward to grasp his hand without regard for propriety, helping him to sit down. ”Are you feeling uncomfortable somewhere?”

Beitang Yao did not resist, and under her assistance, he sat down in the chair. She reached out to soothe his breath, calming him with each gentle motion.

After a moment, Beitang Yao slowly opened his eyes, his complexion unusually pale, almost transparent, his handsome face taut, and his thin lips pressed into a straight line.

His tightly furrowed brows never relaxed. He glanced faintly at Xia Qingqian standing beside him, his eyes reflecting a faint loneliness, and said in a voice like a thread, ”Why aren’t you afraid of me being angry...”

No one had ever dared defy his wishes, not even Ye Feng had such courage. Yet Xia Qingqian seemed to completely disregard his authority, not only lacking fear but even daring to confront him. And this feeling arose increasingly with their interactions.

Was she really not afraid of him?

”Young Master, do you think everyone is as stubborn as you? Don’t people see doctors when they’re ill? You even know to buy all sorts of medicine for me when my stomach acts up. And what about you? Have you ever cared well for your body? You know you have asthma, yet why do you smoke? To focus your mind and immerse yourself in work?”

”I have a lot of work to do, twenty-four hours in a day isn’t enough. Do you think I should rely on coffee and cigarettes to stay awake?” Beitang Yao turned his head, looking at the swaying branches outside the window, his entire face tinged with a hint of melancholy.

Summer Qingqian had indeed guessed correctly. She had observed Beitang Yao for a while; whenever he was troubled, he would light a cigarette, smoking now and then, but mostly lost in thought.

”Do you think you’re a workaholic? Can your body withstand this? I know without you, the company’s operations might halt temporarily, but it wouldn’t collapse!” Xia Qingqian’s mood rose as Young Master complained to her. ”Young Master, sometimes people shouldn’t let themselves be too exhausted; you should also take a good rest.”

”What do you understand!” he shouted somewhat excitedly. ”If you were shouldering such heavy responsibilities, you might not say such words to me!”

The whole Beitang Family revered him, but there was no warmth to speak of. They had too much hidden in their hearts. In that family, he never fit in, and he didn’t want to have too much contact with them.

In the company, he wasn’t just managing a company but global operations. His every minute was very precious. His assets were measured by the second, with each second bringing in US Dollars, not just millions.

”Yes, I don’t understand, nor do I want to. But everyone should cherish their own body. If tormenting yourself makes you feel better inside, then go ahead and torment yourself.” Xia Qingqian felt a surge of disappointment in her heart, using her passion for him, yet he always remained cold.

”Then get out of here!” Beitang Yao leaned his head against the chair, closed his eyes, shutting out the world inside, his handsome face cold as ice and snow, like an iceberg snow lotus.
