One-Eyed Monster

No one expected the young family leader of the Kangen Family to make such a decision.

If what His Majesty, Prince Charles, is doing in Xinbal this time is truly a coup, then the decision made by the young Kangen family leader is rebellion!

The consequences of this are very severe.

”Master Patriarch, have you considered the consequences of making such a decision!” an elder from the Kangen family expressed objections.

”I’ve thought it through carefully!” Will Kangen showed no hesitation.

”If you make a wrong judgement, Master Patriarch, the fate of the entire family will head into the abyss. Such a price is indeed too high.” Some people voice their concerns.

Such worry is very normal, as everyone cares about their home. Once charged with the crime of rebellion, the whole family would be doomed.

Will Kangen naturally considered this: ”I know everyone has their own family. I won’t force any of you. I support His Majesty, Prince Charles, in my personal capacity, unrelated to the Kangen family. Today, I resign from the position of Kangen family leader.”

”I, Cole, also support His Majesty, Prince Charles, in my personal capacity. From now on, my words and actions are unrelated to the Kangen family!”

”Pete Kangen, likewise, my words and actions do not represent the Kangen family.”

”Patrick Kangen resigns today as housekeeper of the Kangen family, supporting His Majesty, Prince Charles, in a personal capacity. Hereafter, all my words and deeds are unrelated to the family!”

…

Several Holy and White Robes of the Kangen family began to express their stance, leaving Igor dumbfounded. He couldn’t understand why these people were all breaking away from their family, disregarding everything to support His Majesty, Prince Charles.

If this continues, the Kangen family might just become a mere name!

Not everyone has such courage and boldness. Some elders backed down, loyalty coursing through their veins, not daring to take such a risk.

But this left them feeling conflicted. They couldn’t neglect the interests of the whole family for their own selfish reasons. Now that these core family members are quitting, what exactly are they doing this for?

”Master Patriarch! You can’t use such a method to force us!”

”Everyone has their choice. I won’t compel you!” Will Kangen said, his words filled with authority.

Silence lingered; the atmosphere at this moment was rather strange.

Igor felt the concerns were also not unfounded. If Will Kangen made a wrong judgement, then their entire family would suffer as well.

But now, it seemed as though Will Kangen was forcing these people by leaving the Kangen family!

Even Igor felt this approach wasn’t good, but he couldn’t think of any other way to solve the current problem.

”My words are here, and when the day comes, I will personally stand by His Majesty, Prince Charles. Those willing can join, and those who aren’t won’t be forced.”

Will Kangen emphasized again, making it clear there were two stances within the Kangen family regarding this matter. He only wanted the whole family to unite.

Whether this way would be effective, no one knew, but it was indeed decisive.

Will Kangen wasn’t afraid of traitors appearing in his family, as he seemed to have an even tighter grip on the family than imagined.

”Alright, let’s not discuss this any longer. From now on, I will not interfere in the Kangen family’s matters. Those willing to follow me, we’ll wait for His Majesty, Prince Charles; others can choose freely!” After saying this, Will Kangen took a group of people and left the council hall, leaving a few stunned elders looking at each other in confusion.

”Are you sure they’ll come with us?” Igor asked Will Kangen, puzzled.

”I’m not certain, but I believe our family members will make the right choice in judgement. Even if they don’t follow, I won’t blame them, because everything we’re doing now is a gamble!”

Igor listened intently to Will Kangen’s words, finding sense in everything he said.

He too started feeling as if everything he was doing was like a gamble.

While Igor and the others were troubled by this matter, the City of Freedom, Burstan, was in a peaceful state.

Such tranquility was unusual for Burstan, as there had never been a quiet moment. The city filled with freedom was always bustling, but today, Burstan seemed submerged in a peculiar atmosphere.

”Does anyone know why the prince declared martial law today?”

”I don’t know; such a decision is incorrect. I’ll go protest tomorrow!”

”It’s said that the prince hasn’t dealt with political affairs for many days!”

”Isn’t that a normal state? I think it would be abnormal if the prince started caring about politics!”

”Anyway, this order is quite strange today. It doesn’t seem like something the prince would announce!”

Even with the declaration of martial law, business in Burstan’s taverns remained good, with patrons invariably discussing today’s various incidents.

Burstan’s sudden declaration of martial law left everyone puzzled, turning this free city unfree today.

This made many feel uncomfortable. Numerous people on the bustling streets were arrested today, simply because they couldn’t adapt to the martial law order.

No one knew the exact purpose behind these actions.

In the taverns, most discussions revolved around His Majesty, Prince Charles. The martial law made people view the situation as bizarre, prompting them to discuss what exactly led the prince to make such a decision.

”Could it be that our prince has been deposed?” someone boldly suggested, emboldened by the alcohol, leading others to discuss this openly.

”Now that you mention it, I think it’s not impossible!”

”Yes, many recent events have been peculiar. The Wensi Empire has a new queen, the Mantai Empire is also in turmoil, and it seems like only our Kayne Country is relatively peaceful!”

”But now, it doesn’t appear peaceful either!”

”Indeed, indeed, it does. How could there be martial law like this after so many years without such an occurrence!”

”But there hasn’t been anyone resisting even after this long period of martial law!”

The discussions were overheard by some Crows, who were hired to discretely pass the information upward.

The Crows reported these messages to the Spiders, who relayed it through their network until it reached the hands of the ultimate users.

These messages came from the grassroots populace, reflecting their most direct view of the martial law.

Who exactly cared so much about the public’s reaction?

Ultimately, what was the purpose of this martial law, and why it all seemed like a mystery?

Hunter held the envelope handed over by the Spider, containing a wealth of information intended to be sent to the elders of the Dark Cabinet.
