Our Family Has Fallen

Chapter 1198: Chapter 658: Adventurers’ Preparations (2)

However, even if they wanted to buy more with their money, it wouldn’t be possible as there’s a limit; you can only buy so much in a week.

Unlike those adventurers who only have one cheap life left, the Scorpion Mercenary Group’s system is relatively complete, trying to improve the survival ability of its members as much as possible.

The mission proceeds are not distributed completely but a portion is reserved as team funds, used for supplies, healing, and compensation.

Scorpion is a competent leader, which is why the teammates trust him so much.

There are many similar situations; those with experience and preparation are busy preparing for tomorrow’s mission.

From planning the route to equipment and supplies for various situations, the last thing is adequate rest.

They might survive by luck, but more so because of advance preparation.

Only by understanding this can they truly become leaders of the team.

These are all skilled individuals. If Lance wants to hire them to clear the ruins, it’s not that Lance doesn’t have the money, but it’s definitely an amount that would make Lance feel the pain.

Why spend money when it can be done for free?

But among the adventurers arriving in Hamlet, they are still the minority; more are those ordinary people who can’t even afford a torch, relying on the light from others.

Preparation? Don’t kid yourself. Recently, they’ve already spent all their money and many haven’t even had a full meal, let alone supplies.

They have nothing left but a rotten life and don’t mind risking it tomorrow with those skeletons.

However, these people have instantly made the town’s shops lively.

Resting is impossible; they’re spending their last bit of money because no one knows when they might die.

In such chaotic circumstances, the town passed the first night of the ruins opening. Undoubtedly, with the effort of the staff, it has withstood the impact, and now they can finally relax a bit.

Because those bastards have to go knock on bones.

Here, while the sky is still dim, the Scorpion Mercenary Group is already prepared. Although they are all experienced mercenaries, some were so excited last night that they only barely fell asleep.

After all, this is an action filled with legends and equally filled with danger.

”Check your equipment; I don’t want any problems.”

Previously, because they offended the Lord, they behaved themselves for some time, afraid of causing trouble, so they put away their weapons and only carried concealed items like daggers and short swords when going out.

Luckily, the Lord had no intention of troubling them; at this time Scorpion finally took out his weapon, a rapier named [Poison Needle]. Just hearing the name suggests its danger, which is the origin of his nickname.

One can feel the eerie aura the rapier exudes; this is an extraordinary weapon. When held in hand, his entire demeanor changes, his body upright and his eyes sharp.

Swordmaster!

He is so easy to deal with in front of Lance knowing he can’t win. Just imagine, when his team was almost promoted to gold, what does that mean?

That’s a top-tier team certified by the guild, needing to complete silver-rated missions at least twenty times, with a success rate above ninety, meaning only two chances for failure.

Then they must finish one guild-assigned promotion task; upon success, they can receive more resources, qualifying for gold tasks, even joining the guild’s headquarters.

Unfortunately, these unlucky fellows ran into Hamlet on their first mission, which failed miserably.

Don’t underestimate the mercenary guild’s intelligence capabilities; all the continent’s mercenaries are their spies.

Lance directly stripped the Church, converting the church into a school, later beat up the Church’s legendary figure, and imprisoned them into obscurity; some even think the Church members were secretly eliminated.

The example was set right there; add spies from the guild being captured and disappearing, it’s imaginable what kind of attitude the local Lord holds towards these organizations.

To ask this figure to return the medieval guild property and to rebuild the guild as a vanguard is like pulling teeth from a tiger; hence, the guild assessed the difficulty of this promotion task as gold, which isn’t unreasonable.

Later, Scorpion pondered, damn it, maybe the guild folks are trying to push him out to explore the Lord’s attitude?

But worrying about this is pointless now; the ruins are waiting for their exploration.

”Eat at the front line, set off now!”

With a command, the Mercenary Corps left two logistics personnel, and a group of over ten people set out for the ruins.

At this time, there were others on the road even earlier than them, completely without the previous casualness; instead, they all were wary of each other, maintaining a certain distance.

No sound whatsoever, oppressively quiet.

Face-turning over interests, even brothers can turn against each other, let alone strangers; this is a chaotic and unruly world.

Without the Sanctuary of the Lord’s rules, they must rely on themselves.

Soon everyone arrived at the front line, but didn’t rush in; instead, they sat eating bread and waited.

A sunrise rose on the horizon, autumn sunlight no longer so intense, but as the rays spread across the earth upon them, it still brought a bit of warmth to them in this ghostly place.

The active skeletons seemed to sense something too; their movements became bizarre, seeming to want to hide in dark corners.

But more of them were directly exposed, under sunlight, becoming sluggish; this sent a signal to everyone.

”Oh! I like daytime!”

”Praises to the sun!”

”Stop with the damn nonsense; hurry up.”

A sentence spoken by someone got them all moving, showing extremely strong aggression towards the evil skeletons.

In the face of Gold Coin, fear doesn’t exist, it’s only because there aren’t enough Gold Coins.

Scorpion and the team started moving too, only they didn’t choose to follow some guys taking secluded routes, rather went with the flow, as last night they’ve determined no point in exploring the periphery, opting to conserve strength for a deeper exploration before taking action.

There were many similar to him, and these immediately engaged in battle with skeletons.

The Scorpion rapier has too few areas of attack for these fleshless skeletons. Even though with his skill, he avoids making low-level mistakes like a missed stab, the efficiency is too low; even piercing through the barely intact skull is ineffective.

Still, there’s the loudest mouth guy in the team, clad in armor, wielding a long-handled mace, sweeping through scattering skeletons into pieces.

”Oh! This is so satisfying!”

”You clear the path, others conserve energy, stay alert.”

Scorpion wasn’t reckless earlier; he rushed ahead to assess the strength of these skeletons.

Though the announcement from the Lord stated it, a mature leader couldn’t simply trust others but believed in themselves.

Yet, as a Swordmaster, he quickly adapted to the rhythm of battle, directly piercing through a skeleton’s spine, a slight twist, withdraw and the nearby skeleton collapses.

It’s proved those skeletons indeed are fragile. Though breaking bones still keep them moving, their goal isn’t about killing them, but simply ensuring they’re not in the way.

Don’t underestimate these Mercenary Corps’ professionalism. Their moral level might not be great, but their professional quality is absolutely top-notch, and their coordination is perfect.

Especially in this kind of squad combat, very elite.

If those professional mercenaries are wolves, then those adventurers are wild dogs.

These people may only have a rotten life, but they don’t charge recklessly; instead, they follow once those clear a path.

They know there’s little chance of competing with those for the most valuable treasures, so their target has always been things others overlook, maybe a silver candle holder, or a copper pot...

After all, those aiming for the real treasure despise such worthless burdens, but to them, a few copper coins can buy them a night of cheap beer.

Everyone has a bright future right...?
