Our Family Has Fallen

Chapter 1165: Chapter 642: Secret Investigation

The administrator rushed out in a panic, and the news of the museum theft soon reached the person in charge.

The theft at the museum is a major event, making the person in charge break into a cold sweat, even more than when faced with a charge from evil cult followers.

What can be placed inside speaks volumes, and hearing that it was the Lord’s belongings that were lost, he couldn’t stop his hand from trembling as he wiped his sweat.

”This... Are you sure? You can’t joke about this... Is it an exercise? Why wasn’t I informed...”

”I can name every item inside the museum, and every piece has a record. I specifically checked them all; it’s indeed missing.

Moreover, would I joke about the Lord?” The administrator looked serious, with no hint of joking.

In this situation, even if he doesn’t want to admit it, he has to face reality, and there’s only one path ahead for him.

”Come, let’s go see the Lord.”

As for concealing the news, trying to retrieve it, or perhaps forging a collection and pretending ignorance...

Those methods are something they dare not attempt, as it would be a betrayal of the Lord.

Racing under the moonlight, slashing the Screamer Demon and returning for a good night’s sleep, only Lance could do that.

With the threat of the Screamer Demon eliminated, he slept quite well, but he didn’t expect to hear such news suddenly in the morning, while eating crab and drinking milk.

”Museum theft?”

Lance’s demeanor also turned serious. Many items inside are even relics and cannot be desecrated; it’s a slap in his face.

At that moment, all he could do was conceal his anger and ask the two, ”What was stolen?”

Yet soon a strange expression emerged on his face, as the answer left him a little puzzled.

”A blood-stained shirt, the underlay from the set of armor during the bandit war, placed with it.”

”Just lost a piece of clothing? Nothing else was stolen?”

”No, I’ve checked specifically, only one piece of collection was lost.”

Even with confirmation, it was hard for Lance to resolve his confusion, and he became even more puzzled.

Because there wasn’t anything of value there, but it held special significance.

If someone wanted to steal, it could only be for a special purpose.

Such as striking against his regime, weakening his rule.

As long as the item is thrown out, it can slap his face, showing he can’t even protect the heroes’ relics.

And if Hamlet couldn’t recover it, he would completely lose his prestige; even recovering it would be a significant blow.

Lance had even suspected the Mercenary Guild earlier; those guys had just fallen out with him, so it’s not impossible they took action.

But... Lance didn’t get it.

Damn, there were so many items inside, why steal his shirt?

He’s not dead yet, those things have no special significance.

Could it be some twisted freak with a peculiar hobby?

Lance remembered seeing outrageous news like stealing underwear and socks often in the past life...

”Blood, that clothing is stained with your blood; it will become material for some curse rituals.”

However, Amanda beside him proposed a suggestion from the perspective of mysticism, while also adding a crucial clue.

”Ordinary people can’t enter that place so easily without alerting the guards; it’s likely a Transcendent.”

As for why Amanda was beside Lance, having breakfast together.

Everyone knew Lance was diligent in studying. Even upon returning, he couldn’t forget the Screamer Demon’s scroll, so finding Amanda to research where else Screamer Demons might appear seemed normal.

But those details didn’t matter now; Lance listened to Amanda, and her meaning was clear: someone was targeting him, and it’s a Transcendent.

Otherwise, why would someone go to such lengths just to steal a shirt?

The royal family, church, guild... As to who did it, it’s hard to say, considering he offended so many, and with the ruin opening soon, interests are compelling.

Various situations intertwined, instantly making the matter troublesome, even causing Lance to feel a bit apprehensive.

If the person stole the shirt just to deal with him, it wouldn’t be scary, but if it affected all of Hamlet, it could disrupt his plans.

”No matter what, suppress the news first. Release the message saying the museum found traces of rats, using this as an excuse to seal off and claim it needs remodeling.

I’ll notify William to investigate this matter; you all carry on as usual and cooperate with the police to find the culprit as soon as possible.”

No matter the reason, he had just reorganized security recently, and within a few days, someone dared to challenge him. He must take harsh action; otherwise, Hamlet’s police reputation will be utterly disgraced.

”Do you two have anything else?”

Lance looked at the two, seeing they hadn’t left, so he focused on them.

”The loss of the collection is my responsibility as an administrator; I hope the Lord will punish me!”

The person took the initiative to bear the consequences, and the camp leader could only follow suit, or perhaps he was already prepared for it.

”The loss of the collection at the training camp is my responsibility too; I hope to resign from the position of responsibility.”

But Lance listened to the two without any reaction. What had just happened hadn’t caused him to frown, and instead, he looked at them with dissatisfaction, his tone a bit harsher.

”Security breached, won’t you study where exactly the flaw occurred and then resolve the problem?

What are you telling me this for? Faced with issues, don’t you think of ways to resolve them? Quitting at every problem is cowardly behavior!”
