Our Family Has Fallen

Chapter 1163: Chapter 641: Thief Under the Night Curtain

”I heard that the museum in that training camp houses all sorts of treasures.”

”That’s nothing, the research institute outside the town is really impressive, with three layers of military defense, it’s impossible for ordinary people to get close.”

”What you’re talking about doesn’t matter, I feel that the sanatorium is the most mysterious...”

These adventurers are filled with fantasies about the unknown, they’ve roamed around the outskirts of Hamlet these days, but there are some restricted places that are hard to enter.

And this naturally leads them to dream, whether purely out of curiosity or greed, after all, those places have never been entered by outsiders, and those associated with them remain tight-lipped.

This kind of lockdown only increases curiosity; what is inside that warrants such protection?

Such topics always fill the dull times with unexpected surprises, merely to pass the time.

But when Audrey overhears these words, they carry a different meaning for her, like a task list being laid out.

She is not here for money, simply in pursuit of excitement!

And precisely because of this, it ignites her desire for exploration...

Originally, she had planned to experience the bath center, hearing it’s a specialty of Hamlet, with various projects.

But upon hearing about those restricted areas, her curious mind began to stir.

After all, there are still two days until the ruins officially open, and she figures it’s better to have fun while idle.

These so-called lockdowns are like pre-dinner desserts to her, and she can’t wait to taste them.

Barbaric intrusion is not the best choice as it wouldn’t be fun enough, and she has roughly understood Hamlet’s law enforcement situation: only by committing the perfect crime can she escape the police’s pursuit.

After spending the money, she roamed around Hamlet scoping out the area, and upon determining her target, she naturally returned to the complex environment of the inn.

She waited for the arrival of night, which would be her best protection...

After nightfall, torches were lit along the main roads around the square at regular intervals.

Curfew is the simplest and most effective way to reduce most criminal activities.

Without crowds for concealment, if anything happens, it can be discovered quickly, with fewer disturbances, making investigations easier.

However, in larger cities like Totnes, these rules are talked about but not enforced, making them pointless.

There are simply too many people to control, and besides, night is when nightlife begins.

Hamlet has curfew, but not a complete one, only dividing the surrounding few main activity streets, while areas like residential districts are under curfew.

You can see police patrols in teams of two walking the streets, while after dark, roadblocks are set up at street intersections with someone on duty.

But all this is a bit too simple for a professional.

A figure directly slipped past the watchmen under the cover of darkness.

The police posts were still too easy for her; she easily avoided the patrol teams, swiftly moving towards the target training camp.

Although the police system has absorbed many newcomers and auxiliary personnel due to reforms, it’s clear the levels are simply unmatched.

But when she approached the training camp area, the difficulty increased significantly; surrounding areas were cleared for open space, with a vast hundred yards without cover leading to the camp.

The camp was encircled by a stone brick wall, with a guard tower on the side, and though people couldn’t be seen clearly, someone was undoubtedly on duty, risking capture upon discovery.

This was still Audrey’s simplest target for today.

The sanatorium was surrounded by thick brick walls, with only one door and pitiably small windows reinforced with steel bars, other than going through the main door, she couldn’t think of another way.

As for the so-called research institute, it’s even more desolate, guarded by military forces, not police or newcomers.

The other targets all had considerable difficulty, so she chose the simplest one to practice her skills.

Trying other places will come once she’s more familiar.

After observing here for a moment, Audrey finally awaited the guard shift change, and when someone climbed down the tower but the replacement hadn’t ascended, she dashed towards the training camp in that brief interval.

No one knew what force she employed; her speed was beyond human normal standards.

Even more bizarre was that despite carrying such complex items on her person, there was no noise when she ran, truly professional.

Before the next person ascended the tower, Audrey hastily hid in the shadows at the wall’s base.

The guard tower allowed for a broader range of vision, but had a flaw of blind spots at the tower’s base; unless one leaned out for a look, otherwise it’s hard to detect.

This provided Audrey an operational space; after a brief pause, she adjusted her slightly disordered breathing from the sprint, simultaneously lulling the sentinel above.

Carefully listening for noises on the other side of the wall, confirming no breathing or anything else, then continuing her actions.

The hardest part was over; this more than two-meter-high wall was actually very easy for her, she only needed to step into a wall crack to easily climb over.
